    Q
Can squirrels enter the rat bait stations?
I have a rat that has discovered my yard and like to rummage under my bird feeder. I want to get rid of the rat but not the squirrels. I have already tried the snap trap and killed a squirrel and a chipmunk unintentionally.
    A
Yes, it is possible that a smaller squirrel can fit in the Protecta LP rat bait stations.  Since squirrels and rats are similar sized, there are not really any options that will target only rats and not squirrels other than a live catch trap so if you happen to catch the squirrel you can let it go.

    Q
Should the rodent bait be placed vertically or horizontally? Why would one be preferable over the other?
    A
Rods in the bait stations should be used based on the situation.  Horizontal rods should be used if the station has a chance of getting water or rain inside the station.  By placing the bait on a horizontal rod, it keeps the bait from touching the bottom of the station and keeps it dry and prevents it from getting moldy.  If you are in a very hot environment and the stations may be in direct sunlight, then you should place the bait on vertical rods.  Since rodent bait is made from food that attracts the rodents, they can melt in hot temperatures.  Placing the bait on vertical rods keeps the bait on the rod for longer if they melt.

    Q
Does this station trap the rat?
Does this station trap the rat, or does it allow the poisoned rat to go out into the environment to poison wildlife?
    A
The Protecta LP Rat Bait Stations do not trap the rat. If it did there would be no reason to use the poison bait, instead it would just contain a snap trap. The job of the Protecta LP Rat Bait Station is to protect non-target animals form eating the poison bait. Other animals would have to consume several poisoned rats to be effected by the bait that was consumed by the rodents. You should remove and dispose of any rodent carcases that are found.

    Q
What is the difference between the Protecta Rat Sidekick and LP bait stations?
Are there features that make a difference in which one you buy since they are roughly the same price?
    A

The Protecta LP is a low profile station that is only 3 3/8" inches tall, which allows it to be placed under pallets, bushes, furniture and other objects. The Protecta LP will hold 3 bait blocks on your choice of vertical or horizontal rods (both types of rods come with the station).

The Protecta Sidekick is made from a slightly thinner plastic and is 4 1/2" tall. The Sidekick will hold up to 8 bait blocks and comes with horizontal rods. The Sidekick also has the advantage of being able to hold the Trapper T-Rex rat snap trap. Both stations are tamper resistant and lock with a key.

    Q
How much space should I put between each Protecta LP Station?
    A
There is not a set formula for how far apart the Protecta LP stations should be as the size of the rodent infestation and the amount of entrances/exits will vary from structure to structure. We recommend you place stations near doors or windows where rodents can gain access to the structure and most pros also place one station at each corner of the structure.

    Q
What is the best material to attach a Protecta LP Rat Bait Station onto a concrete floor?
What is the best material to attach a bait station onto a concrete floor?
    A
Most folks use Liquid Nails caulk adhesive to permanently attach the stations to concrete patio blocks. In most cases you do not want to attach the stations to the floor in case you later need to move them or pick them up to clean them but if you decide you do in fact want to attach them to the floor the same adhesive should work well.

  • Asked by Jen from Phoenix, Az

    Q
How do we remove the Protecta LP Rat Bait Station anchors from the ground?
We recently switched pest-control companies and need to get new stations for the new company but cannot pull these anchors out of the ground. They seem to be permanently in the ground. Any idea how we could remove these?
    A

After you remove the Protecta LP Rat Bait Station anchor from the station itself by removing the pin, you will likely need to use a pair of pliers that has a good grip on the metal, or to dig thr anchor out if its in that well. There is not a particular trick to removing them.  It just depends on how well they were set in the soil and how long they have been there for the soil to compact around them.

The Protecta LP will not accomodate a trap inside.  The Protecta Sidekick can hold a trap such as the Trapper T-Rex rat snap trap.

    Q
Do the Protecta Rodent Bait Stations come with rodent bait or is that purchased separately? Where can I find rodent bait for the stations?
    A

No, the Rodent Bait Stations do not come with any type of rodent bait automatically, rodent baits will need to be purchased separately. We do have our Rodent Kits available that do come with a 6 tamper resistant bait stations and 4lb pail of Fastrac Blox. You can view the Rodent Baiting Kits HERE for the different options of stations depending on if you are treating mice or rats, need a low profile statation, etc.
