Is Q4 safe for a backyard where a dog would roam. If not, how long after application would be required?

  • Asked by Todd from Chicago, Il
    09/14/2016
    Q
Why should the first three clippings be left on the turf after applying Q4 Plus Turf Herbicide?
    A

Most insecticides containing the active ingredient Quinclorac, such as Q4 Plus Herbicide, will have similar labeling to allow the clippings from the first 3 mowings after application to remain on the turf. Since quinclorac stays active for many weeks and needs as much contact time on the target plants as possible, this helps to get the most effect from your sprays. Basically, we do not want to cut the grass and remove the product that we've just applied before it has had time to kill the target weeds.

Another reason to allow clippings to remain is so that they are not mulched too quickly, potentially causing damage to desirable plants while the quinclorac may still be active enough to damage susceptible plants.

    Q
Sprayed my yard with Q4 but had heavy rain 4 hours later. Should I re-apply?
I sprayed my Bermuda grass with Q4 about 11:30 am as the forecast did not call for rain till the next day. About 4:00 pm it poured rain for a good 45 minutes to an hour. I read the product is rain proof is 6 hours, but this was not quite 6 hours and the rain was very heavy. Should I re-apply or what?
    A
Were the rain to be a light sprinkle then the 4 hours should be okay, but with a heavy rain for that length of time we would suggest reappying the Q4 to ensure you get the accurate results you are looking for from this product. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
Will Q4 work better with the addition of adding a spreader sticker to my mix?
    A

Per the product label for Q4 Plus Turf Herbicide it states the following:

Certain spray tank additives such as surfactants may reduce the selectivity on the turfgrass.  Use adjuvants only when your experience indicates that the tank mixture will not result in objectionable turf injury.

    05/15/2012
    Q
Is Q4 Plus Turf Herbicide effective on quack-grass in bluegrass lawn?
    A
Q4 is not labeled for quackgrass.  Quackgrass unfortunately is too closely related to Kentucky BlueGrass and most products that will kill quackgrass will also severly damage if not kill the KBG. The common recommendation is to kill the quackgrass with a glyphosate product and then reseed with KBG.

  • Asked by David from Florence Al 35634
    06/29/2015
    Q
Can Q4 be applyed when temp is 75 degrees but will reach 90 degrees later?
Also, can Q4 be applied on established Empire and Meyers Zoysia?
    A
Q4 Plus Turf Herbicide can be applied in the morning or in evening when temps are below 85 degrees. If there is enough time for the product to dry before it hits the 90's it should stil be effective.  When applied as directed it will not harm your Zoysia lawn. Since you mentioned Empire and Meyers Zoysia, you may want to make your application when Temps are staying out of the 90's.

    Q
Can Q4-Plus be applied using a hose-end sprayer?
    A

Q4 Plus Turf Herbicide can be applied with a hose end sprayer but only if can be calibrated to the rate needed per 1000 sqft.  Keep in mind that an application through a hose end sprayer may not be as accurate as using a hand pump sprayer.   We have a video here that explains how to calibrate your sprayer for the amount of water it takes you to cover 1000 sqft
