We do not recommend mixing Ranger Pro and a pre-emergent together. Ranger Pro is a non selective post emergent herbicide and it will kill just about any type of vegetation that it is sprayed on so we would not advise for you to use on your lawn.
A product like Hi-Yield Killzall Extended Control may be a better option. This product provides both pre- and post-emergent control of weeds on areas such as sidewalks, fences, driveways, landscape areas, and walkways for 3-6 months when used according to label directions.
Ranger Pro Herbicide is a non-selective herbicide that can kill any plant it is sprayed on. We recommend keeping herbicides away from tree if possible, avoiding any contact with exposed roots as well.
Typically when using herbicides like Ranger Pro that contain glyphosate, you would want to give at least 2 weeks between when you sprayed the product and when you plan to put down grass seed. This should give adequate time for the existing weeds to die and be raked out, and allow any remaining bits of the chemical in the soil to break down.
Ranger Pro Herbicide uses glyphosate which is talked about in this article HERE on killing Oleander trees.
If this is a big shrub, then you would want to cut it and then treat the fresh cuts using a triclopyr herbicide such as Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer. You can use a dedicated paintbrush to apply the product full strength directly onto the fresh cuts to prevent regrowth.
You may still need to dig out the stump/roots eventually for best results.
Yes, Ranger Pro Herbicide will kill pretty much anything it’s applied to including crabgrass as it is a non selective herbicide. Keep in mind that it can kill your desirable grass as well.
Drive XLR8 would be a selective post emergent that is labeled to kill crabgrass while being safe for bermudagrass lawns when applied per the product label. It is recommended to use a Duo Stick Surfactant for best results.
Please view our How to Get Rid of Crabgrass Guide for more information.
Ranger Pro moves through the plant from the point of foliage contact to and into the root system. Visible effects are a gradual wilting and yellowing of the plant which advances to complete browning of above-ground growth and deterioration of underground plant parts. Effects are visible on most annual weeds within 2 to 4 days, but on most perennial weeds may not occur for 7 days or more. Extremely cool or cloudy weather following treatment may slow activity of this product and delay development of visual symptoms. It may take 14-21 days for larger, thougher, or more mature plants to die completely.
Annual weeds are easiest to control when they are small. Best control of most perennial weeds is obtained when treatment is made at late growth stages approaching maturity. See the “WEEDS CONTROLLED” sections of this label for specific weed rates.
Always use the higher product application rate in the range when weed growth is heavy or dense, or when weeds are growing in an undisturbed (non-cultivated) area. Reduced weed control may result from treating weeds with disease or insect damage, weeds heavily covered with dust, or weeds under poor growing conditions.
Ranger Pro Herbicide should not be applied near edible trees including peach trees. It is recommended to spray at least 15 ft away, outside the dripline and avoid exposed tree roots.
Per the product label, there is no waiting period between an application of Ranger Pro Herbicide and livestock grazing if the herbicide is applied at 3 quarts per acre or less. If the rate is greater than 3 quarts per acre, remove domestic livestock before application and wait 8 weeks after application before grazing or harvesting
Ranger Pro is harmful to fish if it is applied to bodies of water which is against the product label instructions. It is labeled for use in wildlife areas and in wildlife food plots as directed only.
Ranger Pro Herbicide is a non-selective that will kill St Augustine grass also.
It is best to apply Ranger Pro Herbicide when the plant is actively growing and not under stress which would be when the temperature is above 55 degrees and below 85 degrees Spray on calm days when wind speeds are low to minimize accidental spray drift.
The manufacturer of Ranger Pro Herbicide and their technical team have already done the work for you on the label so there isn't a need to question the mix rates as its been vetted before coming to the market and being printed as accurate. Ranger Pro Herbicide is labeled to control poison ivy. You would use a 2% solution (2 2/3 oz per gal of water) and be sure to get thorough coverage on the leaves. Another great option for vines and brush is a product containing triclopyr such as Ferti-lome Brush Killer for smaller areas or Crossbow Herbicide for larger applications.
