How long will Riptide last as compared to Talstar P or Mosquito Barrier?
    A
Riptide is a contact kill only. Talstar P (Talstar One) lasts for 30 days outdoors. Mosquito Barrier can last up to a month. If you are looking for a product with the longest residual, we would recommend using Talstar P (Talstar One). Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

  • Asked by Nathan from Dallas, Tx

    Q
What product do you recommend for my hand-held propane fogger for mosquitoes, for longer lasting treatment than Riptide?
I use Riptide 5.0% Pyrethrin ULV in my misting system and it works great for mosquitos.
    A

Most misting/fogging concentrates on the market like Riptide 5.0% Pyrethrin ULV are contact kill insecticides and will not leave behind a residual to give a continuous kill. Fogging is mostly designed for the instant control and knock down of pests in the area and to kind of keep them away for a few hours. For continuous control you normally use products that are not applied with a fogger and that have a residual to give you control over several weeks as the mosquitoes land on the treated surfaces. We would suggest taking a look at our Mosquito Control Guide and clicking through the steps for treating and prevention and through the kits we offer to help get the best results.

Riptide is a water-based product and would not work in a propane or thermal fogger. You will need an oil based product to use in the propane fogger such as Shockwave or ULD BP-300

  • Asked by Javier from Hollywood, Fl
    03/18/2017
    Q
How much area will a 64 oz. bottle of Riptide cover?
    A

That will depend entirely on how you use it. Riptide can be sprayed in a misting sytem where you would mix 1 64 oz. jug to a 55 gallon tank, which on average will last for 30 days.  It can also be used in a hand pump sprayer alone or tank mixed with another residual insecticide to provide knock down; or you can use it in a hand held fogger.  The size of your yard, how you dilute the product, and how heavily you apply will affect how quickly you go through it.  There are many variables, but you can see use rates and application information on the product label

    Q
Can Riptide be used around pools?
I get a lot of mosquitoes due to my pool and am concerned about the Zika Virus. Will this kills any plants or shrubs? When is the best time to spray? What about the rain?
    A

Riptide should not be used around pools and/or in direct water. This product will not kill any plants or shrubs. It is recommended that this product be used in early mornings or late evenings. It is a contact kill so once the product has dried completely, it is no longer working. Rain does not affect the product.

A better option would be Talstar P. It is labeled for mosquitoes and has a residual of approximately 30 days outdoors. It can be sprayed on and around bushes, trees, flowers, etc. The mixing ratio is 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water. Once the product has dried completely, it is rainfast and the rain will not affect it.

    Q
can riptide be mixed with something with a longer residual effect such as onslaught?
Would it be ok to mix riptide with something like onslaught which has a longer residual effect. I usually use a gas powered fogger to treat wooded areas for mosquito's and ticks.
    A
Unfortunately most pyrethroids like Onslaught can not be used in a fogger. Most pyrethroids can only be used in a sprayer as the risk of the product drifting is too great.

  • Asked by Carol from Atlanta, Ga
    05/26/2012
    Q
Can riptide be used to kill moths in the attic? Is so, what concentration and what frequency to get best kill?
We have a large attic with moth infestation. It is difficult to access the entire attic for spraying. I have tried several different pesticides including foggers. We also have some wool-based insulation. I would like to find something that is easy to use and effective. Can you please recommend product, concentration and use frequency to ensure kill?
    A
Riptide can be used in an attic to help eliminate moths that are exposed at the time of of the application. Riptide should be used in a fogging machine such as the Fogmaster Micro Jet ULV or the B&G Ultra Lite Fogger ULV M2400. According to the Riptide product label you can apply Riptide undiluted: Close room and shut off all air conditioning or ventilating equipment. Apply at the rate of 1/2 to 1 fluid ounce concentrate per 1,000 cubic feet of space. Direct spray towards ceiling and upper corners of room. Leave room closed for 1/2 hour and ventilate thoroughly before re-entry. You can re-apply Riptde every few days if needed. It is very important to identify the type of moth you have and then to track down the source of the moths so that it can be removed or cleaned. Without finding the source of the infestation you will likely continue to see new moths.

  • Asked by Chris from Miami, Fl

    Q
How well does Riptide work against ticks?
I am currently struggling with a tick infestation in my yard and I wanted to know how effective Riptide would be against ticks in the yard? I have fogged my garage and indoors, tick medication for my dogs, but they are still coming in on the dogs after they go out to use the bathroom.
    A
Riptide is labeled to kill ticks, as well as various other flying insects. It is a contact kill only and usually applied with a fogger.

An option that is longer lasting is the Tick Control Kit. It contains Permethrin SFR 36.8% and Archer IGR. An IGR is an insect growth regulator. This will stop the ticks from reproducing. The mixing ratio is Archer IGR: 1 fl. oz. Permethrin SFR: .8oz into one gallon of water. Treatments can be done every 14 days until the ticks are eradicated. After that, for regular treatments, spraying every 30 days is enough.

    Will Riptide kill bed bugs?
    A
Riptide should only be used to control bedbugs in poultry houses. Riptide is not labeled, nor should it be used for the species of bedbugs that infests human residences. Fogging applications do not work well for bedbugs in homes. Please see our Bedbug product page for products that are labeled for use in homes.
