Any mixed solution should be used within 24 hours and the shelf life of the concentrate in it’s original container is 3-5 years when stored out of extreme temperatures.
Sevin Concentrate like other insecticides has the possibility of freezing when stored in freezing temperatures. We would recommend storing it out of extreme temperatures. Generally when shipping a product it would not freeze the facilities are climate controlled to a certain degree & are not on trucks long enough. However, we would recommend bringing it inside as soon as possible once delivered

The active ingredient Zeta-Cypermethrin contained in Sevin Concentrate could potentially harm beneficial nematodes, so we would not recommend applying at the same time. According to the product label for application to berries, Sevin Concentrate should be applied as a spot treatment for pest infestations on the berries. Apply spray mixture to upper and lower leaves, around fruit clusters, and on branches and trunks up to the point of runoff. Reapply if insects return, but not more than once every seven days and according to pre-harvest intervals.

Keep in mind that Sevin is just a contact kill, so it will not have residual effect for fleas, ticks, or other listed pests. For a residual granule to use instead, you could use Talstar XTRA Granules every 30-60 days.

The normal protocol in the industry when using the same sprayer for multiple chemicals including Sevin Concentrate, is to triple rinse it between each use or use a tank cleaner. You would want to run clean water not only through the tank, but pressurize it to pump clean water through the pump itself, hose, wand and nozzle to clean them. As long as you do a thorough job rinsing it you can swap over to a new chemical right away in the same sprayer.
Sevin Concentrate is not labeled to be applied via soil drench. This product must be sprayed onto the plants. The new active ingredient of Zeta-Cypermethrin allows it to kill upon contact and see visible results within minutes, while having a residual kill of up to 3 months.
Sevin Concentrate is labeled to control Treehoppers such as Thorn Bugs.
Sevin Concentrate is labeled to treat bark beetles. The label states it should not be applied to trees larger than 10 feet tall; this is possibly because doing so would not apply an adequate amount of product to the trunk to be effective in killing insects that contact it. When treating for bark beetles, it is recommended to spray up to 15 feet high since generally they do not go much higher than that. You can use a product like Permethrin SFR to do so. Unfortunately, once the borers have already infested the tree there are not any viable treatment options as they would be protected from sprays. In cases of infestation, the general recommendation is simply to protect the surrounding trees with preventative sprays with a product labeled for such a use. Infested trees will need to be trimmed and/or completely removed.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer advice for products to any customers with any type of medical issues. We recommend having your mom contact her physician before applying Sevin Concentrate.
The Sevin Concentrate should kill any stalk borer that comes into contact with it, that being said, its not a systemic product so its not one that will get taken up by the plant. Common stalk borer caterpillars can be difficult to manage because caterpillars that tunnel into stalks are very well protected. Cultural control for common stalk borer includes any weed management plan that limits or eliminates grasses near field margins. We do not have an effective control for borers that are inside of the stem. Per the Iowa State Extension research article on stalk borers: Plants can sometimes be saved by slicing open the stem and removing the borers by hand. Wilted plants should be considered as a source of additional borer problems and these should be removed and destroyed. The best suggestion is to keep weeds and tall grasses controlled and mowed around gardens and flowers, especially in the fall. This will help eliminate sites that are attractive to the adult moths and the young borers.
