    Q
Is it safe to apply Sevin Into soil? Please explain!
After reading the labels, I noticed that soil application mentioned. I am making my own potting soil. I am using recycled soil. I wish to apply seven into the wheelbarrow full of soil, and mix to help kill the different listed bugs I have had an issue with. I am using established plants, not seeds. I have used this product religiously for about 6 years now. But, is it okay to just add it to the soil? Will it kill all manner of pests just like if sprayed to the plant? Will it only kill soil bound insects, and eggs?
    A
According to the manufacturer, Sevin Dust should not be applied directly to soil that you are making. It will dissolve within the soil. It should only be used around established plants and the soil around those.

  • Asked by Jason from Wetumpka, Alabama
    01/28/2015
    Q
How long does the Sevin Dust need to be down on the yard before it rains?
trying to kill all insects and mites
    A
When applying Sevin Dust, or any other insecticide dust outdoors, you want to have as many dry days in a row as possible to allow the product to work. Once it rains it will wash away the dust as it is not designed to stick to the surfaces outdoors long term. A better option would be a residual insectice like Suspend Polyzone that you mix with water and after its dried for 6 hours, will hold up to rain and most outdoor elements for roughly 90 days before reapplication is needed. Suspend Polyzone can be applied to lawns, trees, flowers, ornamentals, bushes and on and around the home as protection as well. It is not for use on edibles so a product like Thuricide or Fertilome Triple Action would be better for pests on edibles/gardens.

  • Asked by Jamie from Fall River , Ma

    Q
    Sevin dust and my dogs
I had to dust my whole yard for fleas, it was bad. How long before I can let the dogs out in the yard, should I water it some first to get it off the tops of the leaves? They are small dogs and I don't want the getting sick from this.
    A

Seven Dust 5% is not labeled to treat fleas, only flea beetles. We recommend contacting the manufacturer directly for the proper steps to ensure your pets safety. Please call Garden Tech at 1-866-945-5033.

For treating fleas inside and outside the home, we recommend our Indoor/Outdoor Flea Kit along with topical flea treatment such as Martins Prefurred Plus for dogs.

Both Onslaught and Martins IGR will have instructions on the bottle that you need to read before use. Always read the product labels.

    Outdoor Use:
Onslaught Insecticide: Mix 0.5 to 1.0 fluid ounce of Onslaught in sufficient water to cover 1,000 square feet of lawn. Spray the entire lawn with a coarse, wet spray. Repeat this application in two weeks.

Martins IGR:  Once you've mixed up the Onslaught according to the instructions mentioned above, simply add the desired amount of Martins IGR to the mix and spray both the Onslaught and Martins IGR at the same time. We recommend about 1 oz of Martins per every 5 gallons of Onslaught solution that you mix up.

    Indoor Use:

Onslaught Insecticide: Mix 0.5 oz of Onslaught with 1 gallon of water (+ 1 oz of Martins IGR if needed, please see below) to treat a 1,000 sq ft area. Thoroughly apply as a fine particle broadcast spray to infested rugs, carpets, and pet resting areas.

Martins IGR: Add 1 oz of Martins IGR to the diluted solution of Onslaught for the initial treatment.

Prior to treatment, carpets, draperies and upholstered furniture should be vacuumed thoroughly and the vacuum cleaner bag disposed of in an outdoor trash receptacle. Remove pets from area to be treated. After treatment, do not allow children and pets into treated areas until spray has dried. You should vacuum once daily every day for the next 14 days to help speed up the flea elimination process. A second application of Onslaught may be needed after 14 days.

  • Asked by Vin
    08/16/2014
    Q
Sevin Dust 5% controls carpenter ants?
Does Sevin Carbaryl dust control carpenter ants?
    A
Sevin Dust 5% is not labeled for Carpenter Ants. We recommend using Carpenter Ant kit 2.
First, this kit contains Dominion. Dominion is a sprayable liquid bait that makes up to 48 gallons of solution (enough to provide several years of outdoor protection) and can be sprayed around the outside of your home to provide a long-lasting barrier against carpenter ants and other ant species. Ants pick up the Dominion 2L on their bodies and spread it to other ants, eventually eliminating the entire colony.

This kit also includes Advance Carpenter Ant Bait for outdoor control/indoor control and Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel for indoor control. The Advance Carpenter Ant Bait is great for sprinkling in a 2 foot barrier around the outside of your home to provide a food source that outside ants are looking for. It can also be applied around wood piles, trees, stumps, or other areas of harborage. Advance Carpenter Ant Bait can also be used indoors in bait plate stations. The Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait is for indoor control and should be placed where you see ant activity inside. The ants will eat the bait and take it back to the nest spreading it around to the other colony members. You will need a pressurized garden pump sprayer to apply the Dominion 2L. We recommend using the Chapin Premier 1 Gallon Sprayer.

    Q
I was told to put this under neath the shavings in my pig stall to prevent maggot. Will with hurt my pig?
    A
Generally, Sevin Dust is to be applied in areas where pets will not be. However, since the Sevin Dust will be applied under the shavings in the pig stall, you would want to keep pets away from the treated area until the dust has had time to settle and has been covered by the shavings and it should not harm your pigs.

  • Asked by Mark from Milwaukee, Wi
    07/02/2014
    Q
    Will Sevin kill carpenter ants?
    A
No, Sevin Dust 5% is not labeled for carpenter ants. We would recommend the Carpenter Ant Kit # 2 if you are treating for carpenter ants. It comes with three different products that will take care of the ants. The Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel will be applied in spots in cracks and crevices. The Advance Carpenter Ant Bait is a granular that can be broadcast across your lawn. It also comes with a perimeter spray called Dominion 2L Termiticide. This product is mixed with water and sprayed along the perimeter of your home but should not be broadcast across your lawn. Also, Dominion 2L is only labeled to be used every six months. All three of these items will provide an eradication of the carpenter ants.

  • Asked by Chris from Overland Park , Ks

    Q
Can Sevin Dust 5% be mixed with water to spray the vines and leaves of squash?
I have a bag of dust and an empty bottle that used to have Sevin spray in it. I don't feel comfortable "sprinkling dust"... "How much is just right ?" from this bag.
    A

No, Sevin Dust 5% should not be mixed with water. The rate of use for squash is .5 lbs per 1000 sq. ft.

If you are not comfortable using dust, we would recommend Sevin Concentrate. This can be mixed with water and sprayed directly onto the plants.
