    Q
What does the spreader have to be set at if it is a Vigoro 4300
    A

Unfortunately we are not exactly sure what setting to place the spreader on, but typically there is not a specific setting since it all depends on how fast you walk, etc…

The label calls for 3 to 7 pounds per 1000 square feet.  If your spreader settings go from 1 to 10 (1 letting out the least and 10 letting out the most) you typically want to be around a 3 setting.  If your spreader goes from 1 to 20, you should probably be around a 6 or 7 setting.  The goal is to just run out of product when you are done walking the 1000 square feet.  One person may walk faster than someone else, so they may place It on a higher setting than someone that walks slower.

Almost all fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, etc have treatments in amounts of so much product per 1000 square feet.  So if you can figure out what your walking speed is then you know anytime you apply any product that calls for so much of it per 1000 square feet, you always set your spreader on this setting.  You can calibrate this by marking off a 1000 square foot (10 x 100) area and placing 4 ounces of any type of product of similar granule size, or of the extinguish in the spreader.  Start with a low setting and start walking your marked off area at a normal pace.  You can adjust as you go and find the basic setting for you to apply the product over a 1000 square feet.

I hope this adequately answers your questions.  If you still have any questions please do not hesitate to ask us.

    Q
We have tried several products that were guaranteed to kill the ants and did not. Will Sevin Insecticide Granules do the trick ?
Our yard is full of ants. Please point us in the right direction.
    A
Sevin Insecticide Granules will work to eliminate ants that come into contact with treated areas. Most of the time when folks indicate they have tried several products for ant control with no success the problem usually can be traced back to the types of products they have been trying. We recommend that you select a product that can be transferred back to the colony instead of a product that is effective only on the ants that touch treated surfaces. Ant baits are always a good choice. We recommend you offer both a granular bait and a liquid bait to suit the feeding needs of different species of ants. You can apply the baits in Ant No More Bait Stations so that the bait will stay fresh for a long time. The ants will enter the bait station and pick up the bait that suits them and carry it back to the colony and share it with the other ants. Baiting will wipe out the entire colony rather than just the foragers that are usually killed by topical applications of insecticide.

    Q
Can I apply Sevin insecticide for nigh tcrawlers near a drinking water well? Or are there any safer products?
    A
There are not any products that are labeled to control earth worms or night crawlers and we are not sure if Sevin will work for this use. You will need to keep Sevin at least 20 feet away from the water source.

    Q
I'm tired of spending a fortune on Frontline Plus. Will Sevin Insecticide Granules make my yard safe for our two dogs?
They have both contracted Lyme disease in the last two years.
    A
Sevin Insecticide Granules will definitely help you reduce or eliminate the fleas and ticks in your yard. Dogs should still be on a preventative though because fleas and ticks may wind up in a small untreated area or fleas or ticks may have just dropped off of another animal and may not have had time to receive a lethal dose of insecticide before coming into contact with your dogs.

    Q
In the midwest what is the best time of year for the application of Sevin Granules?
    A
This application timing of Sevin Granules will depend on the type of insects you are trying to control and exactly what state you are in. The best source for application timing information is your local cooperative extension office as the master gardener and entomologist on staff are very familiar with the flora and fauna in your region.

I currently use DeltaGard. Any pros or cons with switching to Sevin granules instead?
Any pros or cons with switching to Sevin granules instead? I noticed Sevin is cheaper.
    A
Deltagard has a broader label that covers more insect pests than Sevin. Deltagard also lasts for several months at a time where as Sevin granules may need to be reapplied every couple of weeks to maintain control. You should also note that Sevin granules come in a 10 lb bag and Delta Gard comes in a 20 lb bag so the prices are pretty even when compared pound for pound.

    Q
Flea Issues in the yard from neighborhood dogs!
I have five dogs, they are all fenced in or live in my home. I am a responsible dog owner and my dogs DO NOT get out, however i live in a neighborhood where people find it ok not to fence their dogs in thus turning my lawn into the neighbrohood bathroom. This also brings pests like fleas. I use frontline but when i allow my two inside dogs to go outside in the front yard to use the restroom they bring fleas back in. I bought Sevin yard granules but my boyfriend and i have argued because he didn't water the yard in....is this going to cause me trouble or hurt my animals??? Thanks so much for your time!!
    A
Watering the Sevin granules in is what activates the granules. If it is going to rain close to the time you are applying the granules that will be fine too. Failure to water in the granules can lead to treatment failure because the chemical cannot be released from the granule and will not be available to the pests. The dry granules usually fall into the thatch layer of the grass and will largely not be available to pets and people walking over the surface so they should not pose any danger to you or your pets. Everyone should stay off of the treated lawn after the granules have been watered in and should stay off of the grass until the area has had a chance to dry.

How are Sevin Granules against oriental cockroaches?
    under porch and in garage
    A
Sevin granules is not labeled for cockroaches and the product cannot be used indoors in a garage because it has to be watered into be activated. Cyper WP would be a better choice for you. This product is a powder that you mix with water and then apply using a handpump sprayer. Cyper WP can be used under and on your porch and in and around your garage to control roaches.

    Q
When is the best time to apply Sevin Insecticide Granules?
live in utica michigan..spring is in the air..
    A
It is always best to apply the insecticides just prior to lots of insect activity. This will help keep the insect populations from building to intolerable levels. If it is warming up in your area and the insects are starting to get active you should go ahead and apply now.

    Q
How long after treating my yard with Sevin Granules can I take my new puppy out?
She is a beagle so nose to the ground and chewing everything,
    A
After spreading the granules across your lawn they would need to be watered in to activate the ingredients. Once they have been watered in and the water dries, your pup will be safe to play/chew to its hearts content. Normally a safe time frame to wait after watering is 1-2 hours.

    Q
how does heavy rain affect granules used to control ticks?
I need to put tick granules out but we are expecting some very heavy rain later today. do I need to wait to put them out?
    A
Most granules like the Sevin brand need to be watered in after application to activate the ingredients. A light rain however is all that would be needed so waiting until after the heavier rain would be more beneficial. Also, keep in mind many times granules are not your best option for tick control. A spray to use on brush and foliage that they will be hiding in is a better option because they will hide there more than your yard, especially if you keep your grass short. You could use the Tick Control Kit for more thorough control.

    Q
I spread seven on my lawn last evening, its rained throughout the night will this wash out the effect?
It may take days to dry, Its been 12 hrs. Is it safe for my dogs if wet?
    A
If the product has been washed away it should be safe for the pets to re-enter the area but try to keep them off the lawn as long as possible til it at least dries some. Keep an eye out for puddles that the dogs could potentially drink from in the yard and keep them away from those until gone. If you have any other worries, contact the manufacturer as they will better be able to tell you the side effects if any that the pets would incur. GardenTech:1-866-945-5033
