Are the Sevin Granules pet safe, if so do they need to stay off the lawn and for how long?
    A
Sevin Granules are pet safe when used as directed on label.  After spreading the granules across your lawn they would need to be watered in to activate the ingredients. Q
I need to use Sevin Granules on lawn to kill fleas. It is going to rain
Weather says it will rain for a week. If I put them on lawn now, will they be effective? Urgent because of infestation of my cats caused by two stray dogs. Have had to clean entire house so yard is a constant source.
    A
We would not recommend to use Sevin in this case. The Outdoor Flea Kit would be the best. It will stand up better in the rain.

  • Asked by Pilar from Coppell, Tx

    Q
Is Sevin the best product to kill chiggers? I have children and pets.
    A

Sevin Concentrate is labeled for chiggers. It will only kill the ones that are present during the application. In order to gain control, they must be contacted with the Sevin to have any effectiveness. We do carry Onslaught Insecticide that offers a residual after it is applied and dried for 30 days. Treatments for chiggers should begin in April/May and could need to continue through the summer as new chiggers move into the area. Treating the entire lawn is of little benefit because chiggers avoid direct sunlight and normally will not infest areas that are mowed or otherwise well maintained. Focus treatment on the unkempt areas of the lawn and lawn edge. Both Sevin and Onslaught are safe when dried. Keep the children and pets out of the area during the application until the surfaces are completely dry and then they can return.

    07/15/2015
    Q
Can we use Sevin granules for ticks in a dog pen? If so, how long before they can go back in the pen?
It has been raining for 2 weeks and is hot and humid. There are a lot of ticks this year. I have used the spray around the house but never inside the dog pen.
    A

Yes, Sevin Granules can be used inside the dog pen. The pets need to be removed from the area during the application. The application rate is 7-9 lbs. per 1000 square feet. This does need to be watered in. Once the ground has dried, your dogs can go back into the area.

    Q
Can I put Sevin Insecticide Granules in a sprayer with water, wait for it to dissolve and then spray it? Will this be effective?
    A

Sevin Insecticide Granules should be broadcast on the lawn using a spreader and then watered in to activate them, per the product label. The granules would likely clog any type of sprayer. We do carry Sevin Concentrate that can be mixed with water and applied Fruit trees, ornamentals, vegetable gardens, shrubs, flowers, outdoor insect perimeter control in residential areas. • Asked by Bev from Eustis, Florida

    Q
Why can you only use Sevin Insecticide Granules four times a year on your yard?
I live in central Florida, have been having a time this year with my lawn. Damage comes back every 6 to 8 weeks. I'm losing my lawn.
    A

Sevin Insecticide Granules have labeling that only allows a limited number of applications per area per year. There is often a limit to the amount of product that can be used in an area annually, depending on label approval by the Environmental Protection Agency and manufacturer's recommendations. These restrictions could be based on potential of resistance, potential toxicity to the environment or to the application area, or a combination of several of these factors. Regardless, the label is the law and we always recommend using products only in accordance to the labeling.

If you are experiences problems with Chinch Bugs, the most popular product that we carry for this pest is Talstar P. You will apply Talstar P at a  rate of 1 oz. per 1,000 square feet, then watering in the application with at least 0.25 in. of water to carry the active ingredient to where the bugs are feeding. Be sure to treat the entire lawn area, not just where you already see damage. You may also want to considering using a product for prevention earlier in the season, such as Merit Granules. When applied at the correct time, Merit Granules are used only once per year and will prevent damage later in the season. Please see our Chinch Bug Control page for more information.

  • Asked by Sandie from Palmetto, Fl

    Q
Does Sevin kill grubs, or do you have a special product to kill them?
I applied GRUB Ex last week. Today I found 2 live grubs. What kills grubs?
    A

It is typically a little late in the season to start treating for grubs. Sevin is not recommended for grubs often because it does not penetrate the soil – Sevin is really just a contact kill for surface feeding grubs. Grub Ex has been updated to a newer, long-lasting systemic active ingredient recently, however the older product may have had a contact kill only. One option to use around edible plants is treating with Milky Spore.  You should apply Milky Spore grub control granules with a push spreader or a hand spreader in the Spring, Summer, and Fall for 2 years to create the long term residual. Once established, Milky Spore lasts 10+ years. If you are treating in turfgrass and around ornamental plants, we recommend using a systemic product in Spring before egg hatch, such as Merit Granules. We have more great tips in our White Grub Treatment Guide here.

    Q
Can liquid Seven be applied to lawn for tick control?
I am removing 3-10 ticks per day from my dogs. New home backyard was beyond overgrown. All the brush is now cut back but there must be a tick infestation in the grass. Can I safely use liquid Seven in a sprayer to treat the lawn? When can my dogs play in the treated area again? Thanks.
    A

Sevin Concentrate cannot be applied as a broadcast to lawns. Sevin Granules can be applied to lawns for ticks. It will be safe for Pets to re enter after the treated area has dried.

  • Asked by Stu from Tucson, Az

    Q
Can Sevin granules be used in a new vegetable garden?
I'm planting a bit late for here, and in digging the holes for an assortment of veggies in this 6x8' garden, I found a grub. It's starting to get cooler here, though it was 80F today. How do I apply the granules around the perimeter? I used Corey's Slug Death around the perimeter of my garden in SoCal to treat slugs and it worked well. My plants are only in the ground for 1-7 days.
    A

Sevin Insecticide Granules can be used around certain edibles. It is recommended that you check the label for the specific time frames in which this product can be used and for the edibles on which it is safe to apply. Keep in mind that Sevin Insecticide is only active for a short time and will not offer long-term grub control.

  • Asked by Rosie from Mira Loma, Ca

    Q
Will Sevin Insecticide Granules affect my pet?
My cat rolled around the grass after spreading Sevin granules that had not been yet watered. Will this affect my pet? I watered the lawn in the evening a day after spreading. Will Sevin still work?
    A

Sevin Granules are not activated until they have been watered in so your pet going into the lawn while they were dry should be fine. If your pet seems to be acting out of character or sick, we would recommend taking your pet to vet.

Yes, the product will still work if you waited to water them in.

  • Asked by Kim from Lynchburg, Va
    11/10/2015
    Q
If dogs consume grubs from a lawn treated with Sevin Insecticide Granules (once they surface), is there a potential for harm to the dogs?
    A

No, Sevin Insecticide Granules have a very short half life so this should not harm your pet. Once the grubs consume the product, it is broken down very quickly within the pest so if a dog consumed them, they would not have much of the active ingredient in them still. Be sure to keep your pet out of the area until after the granules have been watered in and the area has dried.

    Q
    Earthworm Killer?
The store that sold me this product "promised" that this Sevin Granules would kill the earthworms and grubs that have attracted several moles in my yard. Please confirm this for it's not mentioned on the label.Regards,
    A

Sevin Insecticide Granules are not labeled to killl earthworms but does work for white grubs. There are no products on the market in the USA that are labeled for earthworms as they are largely beneficial creatures. There are a few known control methods that include cutting back on irrigation so that the worms will go deeper into the soil for the moisture they require to survive or fertilizing your lawn after a heavy rainfall which will eliminate some of the population.

    Q
Are the insects listed on the Sevin Insecticide Granules label common to flower gardens?
I'm a novice at this. Please Help.
    A

Sevin Insecticide Granules can be used for a variety of turf and crawling pests that may be found around flowers and other ornamentals as listed on the product label. It is important to keep in mind that Sevin is a very short-acting insecticide and should not be relied on for long-term control. This formulation is a granule that is applied to the ground and then watered in to active the product. We are happy to assist you with a recommendation if you know of any specific pests that you need to treat. You can also reach our Customer Service staff by phone at 866-581-7378 M-F 9a-5p EST.

    Q
Is it ok form my kids and dog to play in the yard where I still see Sevin pellets in the lawn?
I put Sevin pellets in the yard, watered it and had a light rain.
    A

Once the Sevin Granules have been applied as directed on the label, watered in and the area dries, pets and children will be safe to return to the area. All the granules should be dissolved by watering before allowing children and pets to re-enter the area. Normally a safe time frame to wait after watering is 1-2 hours.
