A rat would only need to consume a tiny amount of poison from the bait in the T1 Rat Disposable Rat Bait Station in order to be killed. If a dog were to chew on or eat a dead or dying rat, it is not likely that the dog would be able to get enough poison from that rat to be harmed.
It is possible the rat could go back inside as it would not be trapped in the station. There is not a specific place it will go after consuming and exiting the T1 Rat Pre-Baited Disposable Bait Station. We would suggest various rat traps instead. Please take a look at our guide on How to Get Rid of Rats for more information.
It is not impossible for rats to spread disease and pests throughout the home. For the rat, we would recommend using the T1 Rat Disposable Rat Bait Station. It can be used indoors and outdoors in the areas where the rat normally resides.
The T1 Rat Disposable Bait Station is pre-baited with a 4 oz. block of bromethlin, a fast acting rodent bait that has a lower risk of secondary poisoning. Each rat station has a clear lid so you can easily see if the bait is gone or how much has been eaten. Once the bait is consumed the station can be discarded. Keep in mind that a bait stations is just designed to protect and monitor a rodenticide; it is not going to be a trap since you don’t need to use poison in a trap. We do have multi-catch mouse traps available if you are wanting to trap multiple mice at one time.
We would recommend contacting your veterinarian as soon as possible. As stated on the product label of the T1 Rat Disposable Rat Bait Station:
"TREATMENT FOR PET POISONING:
If an animal eats this bait, call a veterinarian at once.
NOTE TO PHYSICIAN OR VETERINARIAN:
Contains the nerve poison bromethalin. This product is not an anticoagulant type rodenticide. For humans or animals ingesting bait and/or showing poisoning signs (such as muscle tremors, loss of hind limb use, or seizures for animals), limit absorption by either emesis or gastric lavage. Sublethal symptoms, if present, would be the result of cerebral edema and should be treated accordingly through administration of an osmotic diuretic and corticosteroid."
The shelf life of the bait blocks contained in the T1 Rat Pre-Baited Disposable Bait Station should be about one year once the product container has been opened, and up to 3 years if unopened, if stored in a temperature stable environment out of direct sunlight.
