Each Talpirid BAIT worm weighs 5 grams and contains .025% Bromethalin. A 50 lb. dog would have to eat multiple worms in order to ingest a fatal dose. That being said, we do recommend preventing pets from digging the worms up and only using the worms in active runways so the moles are more likely to get it than a pet.
Talpirid Bait is safe for pets if used as directed. There is no odor that would cause them to dig them up. In most cases, the moles that consume the bait will die underground in their tunnels eliminating the worry that animals or other predatory animals will eat the carcasses.
Talpirid Mole Bait is best applied by hand as directed on the label.
Talpirid Mole Bait should only be applied to direct active burrow systems as directed on label only. It should not be applied in drains, wells, water courses, streams, lakes, ponds or other bodies of water or water/feed/food. It degrades in the soil and does not last more one to two weeks. We would recommend using mole traps and prevention options.
Unfortunately, we are unsure of why Talpirid Mole Bait Rodenticide cannot be used on Star-Nosed moles in North Carolina. You may want to contact the manufacturer Bell Labs for more detailed information on this type of application.
Bell Labs can be reached at 800-323-6628.
Talpirid Mole Bait does not pose harm to humans when used according the product label. This bait should be placed in ground burrows caused by moles and resembles their main food source. As small moles consume the bait, it will kill them.
Please review the First Aid Section and full product label for more information.
