    Q
Is Talstar Granules safe to use in the yard around my dog?
I have a dog that is always eating something he shouldn't be. The pest service I use wants to apply the Talstar granules in my yard. I'm concerned about letting my dog around any chemicals for fear of him possibly ingesting it. What should I do?
    A
If the Talstar PL Granules product label is followed, then the granules will not be available for your dog to ingest. Usually, the granules are applied to the lawn and then immediately watered in, sending the insecticide into the soil and thatch layer. Your dog should be removed from the yard prior to the application and should not return until the application is dry. And don't forget, you can save money by purchasing the Talstar PL Granules and applying them yourself and you can have piece of mind knowing that the product label was followed.

    Q
Can I use Talstar Granules for Chinch bug control on St. Augustine grass?
I have a cinch bug problem that has crippled my beautiful st. augustine lawn. We were about to resod, then I saw this. Will it work and if so will the grass grow back?
    A

Talstar granules are one of the most effective chinch bug treatments on the market. Chinch bugs infest the base of grass plants and are often found in the thatch layer. Irrigate the treated area with up to 0.25 inches of water immediately after application to activate (release from the granule) the insecticide. Chinch bugs can be one of the most difficult pests to control in grasses and the higher applications rates will be required to control populations that contain both nymphs and adults during the summer. It may also be necessary to remove the thatch layer if it exceeds 1 inch in thickness to allow the Talstar to penetrate down to the soil.

If you have a few small spots the St. Augustine runners might fill it in this season (of course water, fertilizer, and lots of sunshine helps). If large portions of the lawn were damaged it will likely be late spring or later of next year before the lawn recovers. Very heavily damaged areas may need to be resodded.

    Q
Is Talstar toxic/harmful to frogs and lizards?
I live in Tampa FL and have many frogs and lizards in my yard, I love my little frog and lizard pals and would be devastated if I made them sick or killed them! I also have a lot of mean, nasty fire ants and creepy spiders that I want to make sick and die. Will applying Talstar harm my frog and lizard friends? I cant seem to find any eco-friendly products that pack the same punch as Talstar.
    A
As long as the frogs and lizards are out of the area while you are doing the actual application of the Talstar granules it shouldn't effect them. You will most likely see a reduction in the frog and lizard populations on your property though as you will be eliminating their food source (insects).

    Q
Can I use Talstar granules or Talstar liquid for mole crickets in our horse pasture?
    A
Talstar products should not be used in grazing pastures at all. If you do have a grazing plot that was treated with a Talstar product then the grass should be allowed to grow high and then be cut several times before the horses can be turned out to graze again.

    Q
Can I spread Talstar EZ between rain bands of T/S Lee. Will heavy rains dilute & wash away effectiveness?
Ground is already wet; it's sunny between rain/wind bands. Bugs will be feeding on wet juicy grass. Can I spread EZ and not have it get washed away? Hurry, sky is getting cloudy again.
    A
Talstar EZ depends on moisture for it to start releasing the insecticide and kill the insects, so it is not meant to wash away and the rain only helps the knockdown power of Talstar EZ.

    Q
Are Talstar Granules safe with kids?
Is Talstar Granules safe to use on your lawn where you have kids crawling and playing on it.
    A
Yes, Talstar Granules are widely used by professional pest control companies because they are very safe.  You should always have kids and pets inside the home or away while you are treating.  After the treatment is done it is perfectly safe for children and pets to be back in the yard.  Remember that these granules are only strong enough to kill small insects.

    Q
Will Talstar PL granules control/eliminate night crawlers and grubs from my lawn?
    A
Talstar PL granules are not labeled for grubs or for night crawlers. We carry three granule products that are labeled for grubs, Dylox 6.2, Merit Granules and Demand G. Dylox 6.2 is known to be one of the fastest acting granule products for grub control. Night crawlers are a type of earthworm and earthworms are highly beneficial creatures and you will not find a product on the market that is labeled to eliminate them.

Did not apply granules directly to vegetable plants. Drift may have settled on some.

Talstar PL granules should not be used on or within the dripline or root zone of edible vegetation. We recommend discarding any vegetables that had the Talstar applied within the root zone or directly on the plant itself.

    Q
How do I store Talstar PL Granules in a hot garage in Arizona?
I am very interested in this product - however, I live in Arizona and it gets HOT in my garage over the summer months. Is it OK to store this product there? Any suggestions?
    A
It is no problem to store Talstar PL granules in a garage or any other place in the direct sun.  A liquid product would be a different issue, but since this product is made for application outside there should be no issues.

    Q
What Earthway spreader settings should I use for the Talstar PL and the Talstar EZ granules?
    A
The easiest way to determine the correct setting for you needs is outlined below:

If you need to use 3lbs of product per 1,00 sq ft you would  add 3 lb of product to spreader, start with a medium setting, then apply product to a 20 x 50 ft area (1,000 sq ft).  If you have product left, your setting is too low.  If you run out of product, your setting is too high

    Q
Can you use Talstar PL on the exterior of the house, in winter, with snow on the ground?
my pest control company put granular around the exteriot of my home with snow on the ground. they said it was a pre-spring treatment
    A
We cannot comment on the work of a pest control company for liability reasons. What we can say is that this type of application will not hurt anything and that it is industry standard to apply exterior treatments when snow is not on the ground so that the soil will not be frozen and can accept the treatment.
