    Q
Can Talstar P be used effectively from a backpack fogger?
    A
Talstar can be used in a backpack sprayer or a mist blower like the Solo 451 but it cannot be used in any type of fogging equipment. Please take a look at our Fogging Concentrates to see if any of these might be more suited to your application needs.

    Q
Talstar P- When to spray and what to wear?
When is the optimal time to spray Talstar P and do I need to wear a respirator when applying the product? Also, How long does it take to dry?
    A
You should wear long sleeves, long pants and socks and shoes when using Talstar P. If you are sensitive you may also consider wearing gloves. A respirator should be used if you are spraying in non-vented areas. You can spray anytime though we do recommend you avoid spraying plants during the sunniest parts of the day because the liquid can magnify the sunlight and cause scorching. Talstar P is water based and will take as long as water would take to dry on any surface, usually about an hour or two.

    Q
I have ants pulling sand out from in between my pavers and creating mounds.
I already have talstar-p that i purchased from you. Will that work by applying in the seams or do you recommend something else?
    A
Talstar P will kill the ants that come in contac with the treated area. To eradicate the colony, we would recommend to use a product like Phantom kills by transfer, so they walk right over it and then spread it to other insects hidden behind walls or in their home colony, killing every other pest they come in contact with

    Q
What is the most effective, Talstar PL granules or Talstar P liquid, for ant control for a 3acre area?
I've used the Talstar PL granules twice/yr with success for a 3 plus years. However, if the liquid is just as effective, spaying it with a 30gallon sprayer would be more convenient.
    A
Both formulations will provide the same level of control for most insects though the granules are a bit more "time released" and will last a little bit longer than the topical spray.

  • Asked by Duane from Meridian, Idaho

    Q
Will Talstar P and Bifen IT be the best choice for mosquitos, spiders and other general pests?
Hello... Last "mid summer" I used Talstar liquid all around the house, patio and deck as well as my shop building to try and control ants, spiders and other bugs in general. I also used Bifen granules in the yard and shrub areas. Between those two products, it seem to work very well for the bulk of the summer season, even on Mosquitoes. I'm out of the granules and low on the Talstar and need to get more but my question is: Is there something that I should be using instead of the Talstar and Bifen that would work better yet? We're in Idaho and the main insects I'd like to stop are the ants, all spiders in general and the mosquitoes. I realize there are many other insects that these products kill as well which is good but you have so many products available and at all seem to overlap in killing different types if insects that I'm having a hard time deciding on what would be the best to use this again year. Thanks much, Duane Walker
    A
Talstar P or Bifen IT mixed with NyGuard IGR would be a great choice for mosquito control and they are also labeled for spiders and other listed insects. You will mix an ounce per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft per month on the exterior of the structure. During mosquito season, you will add 3ml to the Talstar P or Bifen IT and it will last for 7 months. It is an insect growth regulator and does not have to be applied as often as the insecticide concentrate.

    Q
I did a yard spray with talstar p 7 hours before it rained...will the rain have any effect after it was alread
I know it says not to apply if it's going to rain...but he product was dried way before it rained.
    A
Normally as long as an insecticide like Talstar has had at least 6 hours of dry time after it has been applied, then it is considered rain fast to most rain conditions that would come afterwards. If you had a heavy down pour for a few days that started 7 hours after then you may need to reapply at that point. But standard summer rain showers should not break down the residual.

  • Asked by Louise from Houston, Tx
    06/17/2014
    Q
What is considered an "excessive temperature" when storing Talstar P in a dark shed over the summer?
90, 95, 100 degrees? How long can it be stored at these temps before it affects the Talstar? In what way does it affect it? I am assuming it might make it less effective -- if so, how much less effective? On the other end of the scale, if stored in the same shed over the winter and it freezes outside periodically, how does this affect Talstar? Thanks.
    A
When storing any insecticide such as Talstar P, an extreme temperature is anything below 35 degrees and anything over 90 degrees.  Storing above or below these temps for more than a few hours can decrease the effectiveness of the product and cause it to separate as well as the potential for the chemical to break down.  Freezing and unfreezing is biggest concern so products should not be left outside in a shed over the winter.  If any product is only exposed to sub freezing temperatures for a short period of time and the product looks exactly the same as before it was exposed, it should be fine.

    Q
How does Talstar P compare to the new Suspend Polyzone?
Does Suspend Polyzone have a faster kill rate for spiders. I see in the Q&A that Talstar P takes longer to kill since it is a residual. Can you give some guidance on whether this is true for Suspend Polyzone?
    A
The active ingredient in Talstar is not protected like that of the Suspend Polyzone. Talstar will last 30 days outdoors. Suspend Polyzone features a proprietary polymer layer that protects the active ingredient from weather, irrigation and mechanical abrasion. This controlled release formulation, which resists erosion, ensures your treatment will continue to control targeted pests for up to 90 days outdoors. It also stays right where you put it, so if you want to increase the effectiveness of your treatments, put the science of Suspend Polyzone to work for you.

    Q
What is the best product to kill earwigs?
I see a lot of products for earwigs on your site, but I do not know which one would work the best.
    A

Most of the synthetic pyrethroid insecticides on our site would do a great job for earwig control. Talstar P would be a great choice for earwigs. You can spray both indoors and outdoors with this product. Talstar P, one of our best sellers, has a long residual, is odorless, dries clear, leaves no stains, is non-irritating to the skin, and wont break down easily with rainfall.

    Q
How can we get rid of a bad tick problem?
I live in AZ and we have a really bad tick problem can you help? We have 6 dogs
    A

Talstar P would be a great choice for indoor and outdoor tick control. We also recommend adding an insect growth regulator such as Archer IGR to Talstar to stop the ticks from being able to develop while you are trying to eliminate the infestation. You will use 1 oz of Talstar +  1oz of Archer IGR per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft area. Do not make spot applications. Treat the entire area where exposure to ticks may occur. Use more water (not more product) when treating areas with dense ground cover or heavy leaf litter. Ticks may be reintroduced from surrounding areas on host animals. Retreatment may be necessary to achieve and/or maintain control during periods of high pest pressure. All of your dogs should be treated with a product that is specifically labeled for use on dogs for tick control.

You can also help by creating a "tick safe zone" in your yard. You should have an area that is at least 9 ft wide between your yard and any wooded area. Trim back trees to allow as much sunlight as possible into your yard. Keep grass as short. Remove as much leaf litter as possible. A clearly defined, well manicured border between your yard and any wooded areas or weedy lots will reduce the chance of ticks infesting your yard.

    Q
How much Talstar P do I need to use?
If 1 diluted gallon covers 1000 square feet, and my house is 4500 square feet with guest house of 2000 square feet on 1.25 acre of land: How much diluted product would be needed to spray both houses and the land? Do I spray inside only on the perimeter of each room and outside around perimeter of houses? Do I spray all of the land area or only in the perimeter of the lot?
    A

Talstar P is mixed at the rate of 0.5 to 1.0 fl oz per gallon of water, so a gallon of the Talstar will make about 128 to 256 gallons of solution and will  last up to 90 days depending on where it is applied.  Each finished gallon of solution covers approx 1000 sq. ft.  Inside applications are limited to just cracks and crevices, along baseboards etc.  Outside you would apply 2 to 3 feet up and out around the home, around window and door frames, and other potential entry points.  You can choose to spray the lawn for further protection or just around the perimeter.  Please refer to the product label for complete instructions on any target pest.

    Q
Can I spray Talstar P on the ground around my fruit trees and still eat some fruit later?
    A

Although Talstar P is not a systemic insecticide, we would not recommend spraying on fruit trees or around the root systems of fruit or other trees from which you plan to eat the vegetation. We do carry many products that are labeled for use on or around fruit trees, depending on what type of tree you are treating and for what pest. We are happy to make a recommendation with more information about your specific situation. You may reach our Customer Service staff at 866-581-7378 M-F 9a-5p EST.

How effective is Talstar P on exterminating box elder bugs?
My mother in law has a horrible problem with box elder bugs in her home and outside of her home. There is no box elder trees on her property or around it. Will this be a good choice to exterminate these pesky bugs?
    A

Talstar P is a excellent option for boxelder bugs. Be sure to spray around the perimeter of the home, around windows, doors, etc. where the bugs could get indoors. You should treat in late Summer and Fall once a month until the first frost. This product can also be used indoors around the perimeter of your home. The mixing ratio is 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water.

  • Asked by Jeff from Bowie, Md

    Q
How many ounces of Talstar P would I need to use per acre to treat for mosquitoes?
I am a little confused as to how far one ounce of Talstar and one gallon of water will go when treating my yard. I am going to use the Stihl 450 fogger to apply the Talstar. If I have one acre would the one gallon mix work? Thank you.
    A

On average, 1 gallon of mixed solution of Talstar P will cover about 1000 sq/ft, so it would take you about 44 gallons to cover an entire acre at the mix rate of 1 oz per gallon of water. The 1 gallon concentrated will make 128 gallons of finished solution at this rate and will treat the acre approx 3 times.

    Q
I have termites in my flower bed ( in the ground). What's the best and safest product to use?
I have termites in my flower bed ( in the ground). They already killed a few of my roses. I thought they eat only dead wood but I have found them around the roots and on the dry part of the rose steam next to the ground. What's the best and safest product to use? I am not worried about the house- it's steal framed and break.
    A
Normally termites to not eat anything that is alive and healthy so while there may be some in the ground around your flower beds, there could be something else actually destroying your plant like root aphids or the like. That being said, you use use a product like Talstar P to soak the ground around the flower beds to eliminate any termites and most other pests in that soil and it will not harm your flowers. Talstar is a concentrate that would be mixed at the rate of 1 oz to 1 gallon of water and poured as a drench on the soil where you have the activity.
