    Q
How much Talstar P do I use to make 1 gallon of solution to treat bedbugs?
I'm trying to rid my home of bed bugs.
    A

Use a 0.06% dilution of Talstar P (1 fluid oz. per gallon of water) for bedbug control. A thorough application should be made to crack and crevices where evidence of bed bugs occurs. This includes bed frames, box springs, inside empty dressers and clothes closets and carpet edges, high and low wall moldings and wallpaper edges. Do not use this product on bed linens, pillows, mattresses or clothes. Remove all clothes and other articles from dressers or clothes closets before application. Allow all treated areas to thoroughly dry before use. Not recommended for use as sole protection against bedbugs. If evidence of bedbugs is found in/on mattresses, use products approved for this use such as Bedlam aerosol and Protect-A-Bed mattress, boxspring and pillow encasements

    Q
I live in Ocala, Fl, and I need Diazinon (or better).
I just moved to Ocala, Florida from up north in Maryland. The ants and termites are everywhere, and they are getting in the house. I had used Diazinon years ago (in Maryland) to control pests. It was GREAT. What is equal too or better than it, that can be purchased at a local Lowes or Home Depot?
    A

Diazinon was outlawed over 10 years ago, and it is too bad because it was a great product.  Unfortunately, the over the counter products do not even come close to the effectiveness of Diazinon.  However, our professional products do!  We sell the same professional products used by professional companies that cannot be sold over the counter.  Our most popular product is Talstar P.  It is a general use insecticide which can be applied inside and outside, is odorless, is labeled for over 80 different insects, and can last up to 90 days in between treatments.  Please take a moment and read some of our over 50 customer reviews about how well Talstar worked for them.

    Q
Which product is best for all around inside pest control in a household with dogs and cats?
I'm looking to save a little money rather than paying an expensive quarterly contract. I would like something that I could use inside and out of the house. I would like it not to have a residue. There are so many to choose from.
    A
We recommend Talstar P for outdoor/indoor control of most flying and crawling insects. Talsta P is safe to use around animals as long as they are out of the area while you are spraying, they can return as soon as the area is dry. Talstar P is odorless, dries clear, leaves no stains, is non-irritating to the skin, and will not break down easily with rainfall.

    Q
    Best product for mosquitoes?
I live in Dallas area. What is best suitable for mosquitoes and common summer yard pest control?
    A
Talstar is our most popular selling product for mosquito control.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio you are trying to provide relief at.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out.  It should be applied every 30 days for optimum control.  Best of all it will not harm any birds in the area.

    Q
Will Talstar help with the flies and ladybugs that are around in the spring and fall?
    A
Talstar would be a great choice for flies and ladybugs. Be sure to spray in areas where the insects are known to land or harbor. If you are trying to prevent these insects from over wintering in your home you should spray Talstar P outdoors around your door frames, window frames, vents, eaves, around the bottom of your foundation, and any other crack or crevice where an insect could gain entry once a month August-November.

  • Asked by Larry from Anderson, South Carolina
    03/13/2012
    Q
What should I use for home maintainence to protect from roach, ant, spiders & general bug problems?
I just fired my pest control company after continued 10 years of service. The cost was skyrocketing and I felt I could do it myself, for less money. I live in Northwestern area of South Carolina (foothills). I am not currently experiencing any problems and want to keep it that way. In the past I have had an occasional roach bug (German, American cockroaches) transit the home (inside) from one side to the other, Also an line of very tiny ants, that may come in from a flower windowbox just outside the kitchen sink. My home is situated on a wooded lot, surrounded by Oak trees. Also, the pest company did occasionally spray around the perimeter of the home for roaches/ants and often applied a granulated bait around the home. The wife is threatening to 'call the pest company' if she see's any roaches. Save me! What products do you recommend?
    A

Our most popular general use product is called Talstar.  It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests. Talstar is also available in a granule formula called Talstar PL if you prefer to use granules.

    Q
Can I use Talstar P as a drench?
I have a 50 ft banyan tree that is about 15ft around that got infested last year and lost all of the leaves. It has grown back over the winter and I don't want to go threw that again. I want prevent it now if I can. Thanks
    A
Talstar P does not work as a systemic insecticide and that seems to be what you are looking for. You should consider using a product that contains Imidacloprid such as the Adonis 2F. Adonis 2F can be used as a soil drench around the tree and the product will be translocated through the tree. You will need to use .2 oz - .4 oz of Adonis 2F per inch of trunk diameter at breast height.

    Q
If I dilute Talstar 7.9, 1oz in a gallon of water, what % of bifenthrin will I now have?
The store brand says 0.3% bifenthrin in a quart hose sprayer bottle.By the time this is diluted with the water from the hose what % am I using? I would like to triple the strength I am getting now with the store product. In other words ,how much 7.9% should go into the quart hose sprayer bottle to give me a .9%solution ?What would the final % be that I would be applying?
    A
If you mix 1 oz of Talstar P per gallon of water you will be using a 0.06% solution. The Talstar P product label says not to use a higher concentration that the 0.06% solution and we do not recommend that you do so. We do not have any information on the store brand product that you used so we are not sure what the dilution usage rate would be on that product. Each hose end sprayer is different  in the way that it is used but if you are following the directions and use 1 oz of product per gallon of water then the end usage rate will be 0.06%.

They are big roaches. the ants are 2 kinds, fire ants and big black ones. Also have these 1 -2 inch long hard shelled multi legeed things with stingers on thier tails are they dangerous?

Based on the fact that you are in Texas and the description you gave, the multi-legged critter with the stingers on the back end sounds like it could be the Texas Red Headed Centipede (they are venomous) but we can't say for sure without seeing a picture of the insect. You can Google Texas red Headed Centipede to do a comparison if you like.

  • Asked by Ben from Gaston, Sc
    09/22/2014
    Q
What causes could there be for ants coming back within a week?
I live in central SC with sandy soil. Talastar kills the ants and other insects well, but I have new mounds in as little as 5-7 days. I have broadcast sprayed, treated mounds at a rate of 1 oz, per gallon and it doesn't seem to have the lasting effect of 3-4 months like advertised.
    A
Ant bait products are the best solution for effective argentine ant control and small black ant control. Ant baits will hit the colony at the source, whereas insecticide sprays such as Talstar P will only cause stress on the colony, causing it to split into a larger number of sub-colonies, making the infestation worse. We would recommend using our Complete Ant Kit which comes with both a sugar based bait as well as a protein based bait to ensure bait acceptance regardless of what the ants are lacking nutritionally. We would also like you to read over our staff written article, How To Get Rid of Argentine Ants to learn more.

    Q
Will Talstar P (Talstar One) kill gnats & roaches?
I started getting an infestation of gnats this spring. I have tried everything from foggers to home remedies. The gnats are in my basement/garage. There is a lot of dirt areas around the perimeter inside the garage area. It cannot be removed. (Old house, 1920). Anyway, please help me!
    A

Yes, Talstar P (Talstar One) is labeled for gnats and roaches. You will use 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water. This can be sprayed around the perimeter of your home, on trees, bushes, broadcast across your lawn, etc. It cannot be sprayed on any type of edibles or area where animals would graze.

We would also recommend mixing the Talstar P (Talstar One) with Gentrol IGR. This will stop the roaches from reproducing for up to four months.

    Q
Is Talstar P dangerous to bug eating critters?
does Talstar P pose any dangers to insect eating critters like frogs, toads, bats, birds etc. I want to treat my yard and wooded portion of our property mainly for mosquito control. I realize that other bugs will be killed but would dangers are there for critters that consume affected insects?
    A
After mixing Talstar P (Talstar One) there is only enough active ingredient to harm small insects. With that said, if you are killing the critters' prey, then they may leave the area.

  • Asked by Jeff from St. Cloud, Mn
    06/08/2015
    Q
Can I use Talstar P use on a vegetable garden?
What if you accidentally treated a vegetable garden before reading that Talstar P is not recommended for that application? If birds can eat infected insects, I would think one accidental application to a vegetable garden early in the growing season would be ok, as long as it's not repeated? Is there any information on this?
    A
Talstar P should not be applied to edible vegetation. If any are treated, they should be discarded. We recommend that you contact the manufacturer (FMC) for additional safety concerns of the product. They can be reached at 800-321-1362.
