    Q
Can I spray Talstar P on vegetable foliage e.g. tomatoes and Okra or on fruit trees such as citrus to eliminate ants and other bugs?
    A

Talstar P cannot be used on anything edible, fruits or vegetables.  We do however have many products that are labeled for gardens and fruit bearing trees.  One of our most popular is our Malathion 55% Spray.

    Q
    Can i apply Talstar P on furniture/couches?
I have a flea problem and i have some living in my couches. Is it safe to spray down the couch or other furniture that has cloth?
    A
You cannot spray furniture with Talstar. Talstar P cannot be used as a broadcast spray indoors and would not be a good choice for indoor flea control. We recommend you use Ultracide for indoor flea control. It is our recommendation and industry standard that you vacuum immediately before the application of Ultracide and every day or every other day after the application for the next two weeks. Vacuums can physically remove a decent percentage of flea eggs that are in the carpet, along with much of the organic crud that the flea larvae feed on. A critical part of the diet of the larva is dried blood, present there as fecal material from the fleas that are on the pets. Wherever the pets spend time, they will shed the fecal matter and the eggs, so it is extremely important that you focus on these potential hot spots where the pets sleep. A vacuum also will remove a small percentage of larvae, but the larva is pretty tenacious, and will wrap around the carpet fibers down there at the base of the pile, and hold on for dear life as the vacuum passes by. The pupa is even tougher to physically remove, for it uses fibers as part of its "cocoon". The vacuum will stimulate the flea adults still in their pupa form to quickly emerge as the adult, and at this point perhaps be sucked up in the vacuum. Even if they are not removed by the vacuum, at least they now are exposed and susceptible to your treatment.   After two weeks most infestations require that you do a second application of the Ultracide and continue with the vacuuming. You should use a product that is registered to use on your pets for fleas such as Prefurred or Advantage. Talstar P can be used effectively outdoors for places where your pets may frequent and also moist shady areas. Treating outdoors will help prevent your pets from re-infesting your home.

    Q
I have a great crop of moss in my shaded back yard. Will Talstar eliminate it?
    A
Talstar is an insecticide only and will not have any effect on moss. Burnout Weed and Grass Killer is a non-selective herbicide that is labeled to control moss. You should spray this product only on the moss and avoid getting it on desirable plants.

    Q
What is the best product for eliminating or at least reducing army cut worms?
I believe cut worms develop into millers that invade every crack and crevice every spring and most of the summer here in Wyoming.
    A
Talstar P is one of the most commonly used products to get rid of army worms in lawns. If you need to treat edible vegetation for this pest a spinosad based product would be recommended such as Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew.

    Q
Does Talstar P kill kudzu bugs? Which should I use Talstar P or Demon WP?
    A
Both Talstar P and Demon WP will kill kudzu bugs. If you are spraying porous surfaces you would want to choose the Demon WP because it will stay up on the surface a bit more and be more available to the insects. If you need to spray plants, trees and siding Talstar P would be a great choice.

    Q
Can Talstar P be used with Archer IGR?
I would like ot use pet and child safe products that are also broad spectrum and Archer IGR and Talstar P seem to fit the bill. I would like to use both an IGR and adulticide so as to get as much as possible at all stages of development. Is Talstar P and Archer IGR a good combination? Could they maybe just be used on the ame areas a couple opf weeks apart, maybe spraying first with Archer IGR and then coming back and spraying with Talstar?
    A
Talstar P and Archer IGR can be mixed into the same gallon of water so you only have to spray once. Archer can be mixed with most insecticides in this way.

I have a lot of small flies in my lawn. What is the best and safest product to eliminate them?
I don't know what kind of flys they are but they are small and swarm out of the grass when I am mowing. I live in the San Francisco Bay area.
    A
Talstar P is labeled to help control many types of flies and can be applied to your lawn. We do recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office and try to get the fly identified to make sure you are choosing the correct product for your needs.

  • Asked by Doug from Nampa, Idaho
    05/21/2013
    Q
Can I apply Talstar P with a tank sprayer and water it in with irrigation?
I have a 1-acre yard to treat. Reading the label for high volume application, can I apply the concentrated amount of Talstar P with my tank sprayer and then water it in with irrigation to achieve the high volume application results? Thank you.
    A
Talstar can only be applied to your yard mixed with water first. Using it the manor you described is against label usage, and you risk not only damaging your lawn by applying it directly to the yard, but also watering it in aftewards would be the equivalent of having a rain storm and it would wash the product away. You need to mix it at the proper dilution ratios for the tank size you have and spray it across the property when you know no rain is expected for at least 6-8 hours after the product has dried. If you have any other questions feel free to contact us or the manufacturer FMC at 800-321-1362.

    Q
I need a product for indoors and outdoors, safe for pets in the house, kill roaches, spiders, beetles & ants?
Is there one product that will work for indoors and outdoors. Is safe for pets (once product is dry) and will kill spiders, roaches, beetles, "pincher bugs" and ants.
    A
You could use a product like Talstar P as this is a very safe product to use, will dry clear and has no odor, and will cover all the insects you mention and many more. It can be used indoors around baseboards and cracks and crevices and outdoors on pretty much any surface with the exception of edible vegetation. Spray the Talstar 2 feet up around the foundation of the home and 2-3 feet out on the ground and around all entry points like window and door frames, and around pipes that enter the home. Once the product has dried you, your children and pets can re-enter the area with normal activity.

  • Asked by Jody from Midvale Ut
    06/12/2013
    Q
I am looking for a concentrated chemical that I can mix and put in my own sprayer.
I want it to kill almost every kind of bug and insect, out side and inside. I don't have kids or animals to worry about. What is your best stuff?
    A
Our most popular general use product is called Talstar.  It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests. Talstar is also available in a granule formula called Talstar PL if you prefer to use granules.

    Q
Can I use Talstar P in garden for bug control on plants ?
    A
Talstar cannot be used directly on vegetables or fruits that are going to be consumed. We do carry several products that can be used on edible vegetation such as Sevin and Hi-Yield Indoor/Outdoor 10%. Always read the product label of the product you select to make sure it is labeled for the plant you want to spray and for the pest you are trying to eliminate. The product labels are available for each product on our site and you can see the product label links on each individual product page

  • Asked by R. from Mobile, Alabama

    Q
    Applying Talstar P to plants
I have read many of the previously submitted questions, but there always seems to be a general, blanket statement provided in regard to applying Talstar P to plants. I still wonder if there are any plants, shrubs, bushes , ornamental bushes or flowers which can be adversely affected by applying Talstar P as specified per instructions. I know it is not to be used on edible foods.
    A
There are certain plants of trees such as the Japanese red maple which we would caution you before applying any product. If in doubt on treating a certain plant you should treat one plant only or one small area of the plant with the Talstar before treating the whole plant. Wait at least three days to see the results before continuing.
