Talstar P is not actually labeled to treat bird mites and it is only labeled to apply in cracks and crevices indoors so is not recommended to be used for them. When treating for bird mites usually you would want to spray all carpeted areas and lightly spray the flooring and to do that you would need a product like Onslaught which will give you a wider usage range indoors. Please review our article on How To Control Bird Mites for complete information.
You do not need to water the lawn before or after an application of Talstar P and Archer IGR for fleas according to the product label. Just be sure you are using the correct amount of product per gallon of water/coverage area.
Talstar P (Talstar One) is labeled to be applied to cracks and crevices indoors. Mopping should not be an issue, as Talstar is not labeled to be applied as a broadcast over the floor. If you were to mop along the edges of the wall where Talstar was applied, it would take it up.
Talstar P can be used for fire ant control, but you will also need to do mound drenching. According to the Talstar P product label, "Fire Ant Mound control is optimized by combining broadcast applications that will control foraging workers and newly mated fly-in queens with mound drenches that will control existing colonies. If the soil is not moist, then it is important to irrigate before application or use a high volume application. Apply broadcast treatments at 0.5 to 1 fluid oz. per 1,000 square feet. Use enough finished volume to penetrate thatch or sod. Treat mounds by applying 1 oz of Talstar P per mound in 1 to 2 gallons water by sprinkling the mound until it is wet and treat 3 feet out around the mound. Use the higher volume for mounds larger than 12
If you have purchased Termidor SC from us and completed the proper trench treatment around the foundation of your home (outlined in the guide below) then that is all the protection you would need to do. Treating the surface of the soil with a liquid or granule in your lawn will not prevent or keep termites away. Termites in their natural environment are actually beneficial insects and most homeowners have them in their yard without ever knowing it as everything is in balance. If you know where a particular colony or activity of termites in the soil is in a particular area you can always drench the soil in that spot with a product like Talstar P.
Although Talstar P is not a systemic insecticide, we would not recommend spraying on fruit trees or around the root systems of fruit or other trees from which you plan to eat the vegetation. We do carry many products that are labeled for use on or around fruit trees, depending on what type of tree you are treating and for what pest. We are happy to make a recommendation with more information about your specific situation. You may reach our Customer Service staff at 866-581-7378 M-F 9a-5p EST.
Talstar P is labeled for bedbugs. According to the product label, it should not be the only product that you use for bedbug control. Chiggers are not known to infest structures and are most likely outdoors in your yard. While Talstar or Bifen are labeled for chiggers, Onslaught is typically the more recommended. Onslaught is micro-encapsulated and will last a little longer on outdoor surfaces which does give it a bit of advantage over Talstar P. Onslaught is also labeled for "mites" in general but would not be recommended for dust mites. Treatments for chiggers should begin in May and could need to continue through the summer as new chiggers move into the area. Treating the entire lawn is of little benefit because chiggers avoid direct sunlight and normally will not infest areas that are mowed or otherwise well maintained. Focus treatment on the unkempt areas of the lawn and lawn edge. You can also use Onslaught to do a barrier treatment around the outside of your home and in your crawl space to stop pests from moving indoors.
All of the products are pet safe when used as directed. Pets should be out of the area during treatment until dry.
You will mix 1 oz of Talstar P per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft for an exterior application for cluster flies.
The general rule of thumb for insecticide concentrates such as Talstar P is that they are good for about 3-5 years from the date of purchase as long as they have been stored at room temperature. If your Talstar is six years old, it certainly would not hurt anything if you wanted to try to use it, but if you find that it is not working as well as it used to, it may be time for some new product. You may also want to speak with the manufacturer directly to see what they would recommend. You can reach FMC at 800-321-1362.
Talstar is not labeled to treat for grain mites. It would be best to discard if the feed and get new feed. We are not aware of a product that can safely be applied to grains that are intended for feeding purposes. Please also contact your Cooperative Extension office for more treatment options in your area.

Respiratory devices are not required for well ventilated spaces or outdoor applications. The Talstar P product label also says "all applicators should wear longsleeved shirt and long pants, socks, shoes and chemical-resistant gloves."
Talstar P (Talstar One) after dilution is only strong enough to kill small insects. Your puppy would have to eat loads of treated grass for Talstar it to harm it. Be sure to keep the puppy out of the treated area until dried.
We would not recommend applying a product on top of the treated areas with Talstar P. It offers a residual control and takes time for eradication. Raid is more of a contact spray. We recommend that you take a few moments to read our article on eliminating roaches for more helpful tips. We also carry professional Roach Control Kits are effective in treating this insect.
Talstar P does work for boxelder bugs. Talstar P does not have an immediate knockdown effect but it does leave a long lasting residual. We do encourage our customers to apply Talstar P once a month through the stinkbug/boxelder bug season (August-November).
