    Q
How do I treat indoors with Talstar P Professional Insecticide for a flea infestation?
    A

We would not recommend treating the inside of the home with Talstar P for flea control. When used indoors, it is only labeled for a crack and crevice application. We recommend that you treat with the products in our Indoor Flea Kit. Also, please take a few moments to read our guide on How To Get Rid of Fleas for more helpful information.

    Q
Will Talstar P kill stink bugs?
    A

Talstar P will kill stinkbugs. You should dilute one ounce of Talstar P per gallon of water. You will use a hand pump sprayer to apply the solution on all door frames, window frames, areas where utilities (cables, pipes, wires) enter into the structure, a band of soil 6 to 10 feet adjacent to the structure, also to a height of 2 to 3 feet on the foundation where pests may be active or may find entrance. As the stink bugs crawl over the treated area, they will receive a lethal dose of the insecticide and usually die within a few hours. You should treat every month starting in August and ending in November for the best results.

    Q
    Does it kill mole crickets
    A
Talstar is labeled for mole crickets. Here is what the manufacturer says:
Mole Cricket adults: Achieving acceptable control of adult mole crickets is difficult because preferred grass areas are subject to continuous invasion during the early spring by this extremely active stage. Applications should be made as late in the day as possible and should be watered in with up to 0.5 inches of water immediately after treatment. If the soil is not moist, then it is important to irrigate before application to bring the mole crickets closer to the soil surface where contact with the insecticide will be maximized. Grass areas that receive pressure from adult mole crickets should be treated at peak egg hatch to ensure optimum control of subsequent nymph populations (see below).

Mole Cricket nymphs: Grass areas that received intense adult mole cricket
pressure in the spring should be treated immediately prior to peak egg hatch. Optimal control is achieved at this time because young nymphs are more susceptible to insecticides and they are located near the soil surface where the insecticide is most concentrated. Control of larger, more damaging, nymphs later in the year may require both higher application rates and more frequent applications to maintain acceptable control. Applications should be made as late in the day as possible and should be watered in with up to 0.5 inches of water immediately after treatment. If the soil is not moist, then it is important to irrigate before application to bring the mole crickets closer to the soil surface where contact with the insecticide will be maximized.

    Q
Is Talstar P Professional Insecticide good for red biting mites?
    A

Talstar P is only specifically labeled for clover mites and spider mites.  It would be a good idea to get an identification of the mite species you are dealing with to be sure you choose the right product.

  • Asked by Carol from Atlanta, Ga

    Q
Is Talstar P safe to spray on painted brick?
I have a deck that gets a LOT of roaches in it in warm weather months. (live in GA) Looking for paint safe insecticide to spray on exterior walls
    A

If you are spraying porous surfaces you would want to choose a product such as Demon WP. It will stay on the surface of porous areas allowing insects to come in contact with it a bit better. That being said, Demon WP also leaves a white powdery residue that is visible on dark surfaces. Talstar P is a concentrated liquid that is odorless, dries clear and is labeled for a huge variety of insects and areas making it a bit more versatile. If you need to spray plants, trees and siding Talstar P would be a great choice.

For control of larger roaches outdoors, you will usually see best results using a granule bait for the insects applied in areas such as under decks and porches and around landscaping. Niban Granular Bait is a great option for this application.

    Q
Can Talstar P Professional Insecticide be used in a Ryobi Battery Powered Mister/Fogger?
    A

The Talstar P Professional Insecticide cannot be used in the Ryobi Battery Powered Mister/Fogger. Per Ryobi, commercial chemicals are not designed for use in that device, and Talstar cannot be run through any type of fogger whether thermal or cold fogger type. We would recommend you contact Ryobi to find out what insecticide solutions they recommend using in their equipment so as to not void any warranties or clog parts.

  • Asked by Lindsey from Twin Falls, Idaho
    04/27/2021
    Q
An hour after spraying Talstar P Professional outdoors, my sprinklers turned on for a few minutes. Do I need to respray?
I sprayed the back of my house and the lawn to get rid of clover mites. About an hour later my sprinkler system malfunctioned and there was water going in half the yard for about 3-5 minutes. Do I need to respray the yard again?
    A

If the application of Talstar P Professional Insecticide had time to dry before the sprinklers went off, it should be ok. If you applied at the highest rate of 1 fl oz per gallon of water, you will need to wait 30 days before reapplying or 7 days if applied at the lower 0.5 fl oz per gallon rate was used.

The product label advises to apply when there is no rain or watering for atleast 24 hours after the application.

  • Asked by Christine from Lacombe La
    05/06/2021
    Q
Can Talstar P be applied to a boat to prevent spiders and other insects around a river?
    A

No, Talstar P Professional Insecticide cannot be used to treat for insects around boats or over areas of water such as lakes, rivers, ponds, etc. Unfortunately, there aren't any insecticides that can be sprayed directly to the outside surface of the boat, as any ingredients they contain could possibly harm the finish on the boat itself. If you have a boat dock, you can spray it with Essentria IC3 which is safe for aquatic life and would be the closest water safe product to Talstar, and covers the same range of insects. Inside the boat itself you can use an aerosol like D-Force to treat crevices and areas under/around seats and places insects tend to hide.

    Q
Is Talstar P corrosive to stainless steel or galvanized metal?
Considering using on feed and drinker suspensions in turkey houses. The flies excrement causes much stress on pulleys winches and the cable itself, causing very expensive and labor intensive breakdowns.
    A

Talstar P Professional Insecticide is a water-based chemical and will not cause corrosion to stainless steel or galvanized metal. Keep in mind that you should not apply this product directly to food, feed, water, or sources for food or water. You also cannot apply this in a way that would contact the animals or their food or water. Keep in mind that a good fly control program includes the use of multiple control measures such as baits and traps, in addition to insecticides.

    Q
What is a product that's as effective as Talstar P but has a 3 month residual?
I purchased Talstar P last year and it worked great. I started doing my own pest control versus paying a local company. However, I had to reapply every month. The local company came every 3-4 months. I want something that will last the same.
    A

Demand CS is a micro-encapsulated product that would give you up to a 90 day residual. Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions.

Another option would be Onslaught. You may view the full product label here.

  • Asked by Kyle from Shawnee
    08/20/2023
    Q
What's the difference between fogging and mist blower?
Talstar can be used in a backpack sprayer or a mist blower like the Solo 451 but it cannot be used in any type of fogging equipment. Please take a look at our Fogging Concentrates to see if any of these might be more suited to your application needs.
    A

ULV, Thermal or Propane Foggers produce micro droplets that are much smaller in size than the size droplets of a mist blower or handpump sprayer.  Fogging tends to move and drift further than a mist due to the droplets being smaller in size. A lot of fogging solutions require the use of kerosene or oil in the mixture which can potentially damage surfaces and often have a strong smell. Fogging Solutions only provide immediate kill and may last anywhere from a few hours to 1-2 days.

Handpump sprayers, backpack sprayers, and mist blowers allow applicators to use microencapsulated insecticides for longer residual outdoors. Using freshwater for mixed solutions allows for applications to be virtually odorless and will not stain or leave an unpleasant scent. Sprayers and mist blowers offer the option of tank mixing other class insecticides for longer and better control.

For example, if treating heavy mosquito populations, we would recommend using 3 products. Talstar P (residual insecticide) with ExciteR (pyrethrin/synergist/knockdown) and Insect Growth Regulator (stops the growth cycle of juvenile insects). These 3 products can be tank mixed in the same tank and applied all at the same time.

  • Asked by Tim from San Antonio, Tx
    08/31/2014
    Q
Do you have a program to cover the major insect pests: ants, spiders, roaches, termites?
We don't have a specific problem, although we notice some spiders, and an occasional ant or roach every few months. I'd like to start a regular program to make sure we never develop a problem. Currently, I set out roach traps every 6 months and use a fire ant bait every year in the yard.
    A

Our most popular general use product is called Talstar.  It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests.

We have a great article here on doing your own quarterly pest control.

  • Asked by John from Louisville, illinois
    09/25/2014
    Q
what can i use for inside and outside for general insect kill
I am currently on a quarterly spray but would like to do my own to save me money ,I would like to known what all in one product I could mix and apply that would kill most common insects and bugs that won't pets or leave a white residue on things. Also I would like mouse blocks that can be used in boxes and also just thrown under the house . Please show what your best options are in a concentrate to mix and use on a quarterly basis. Thanks
    A

Talstar P is labeled for over 75 types of insects and our most popular insecticide for general pest control. Talstar P has a residual of 30 days outside (perimeter or broadcast spray) and 90 days inside the home(crack and crevice) Talstar One is odorless, dries clear, leaves no stains, is non-irritating to the skin, and won't break down easily with rainfall.

For Mice control, depending on the level of infestation we recommend the Protecta RTU Mouse Bait Stations Case(12 Stations) with Fastrac Blox. These stations hold 1 bait blox and can be placed in corners where mice travel. Fastrac is a quick knockdown rodenticide with a Stop feed action after consuming lethal dose, usually within 12-48 hours.

If you are needing a larger bait station, we recommend the Protecta Mouse Bait Station that can hold up to 4 standard size blox. These would work better for you under the home.

  • Asked by Joyce from United States
    09/29/2014
    Q
How can I get rid of my roaches?
I bought Talstar and have been using it for 2 weeks. The roaches are getting worse instead of better. I also used Invict Gold bait. What am I doing wrong?
    A
While Talstar will kill roaches that come in contact with it, it will not stop the problem. Make sure you are not baiting where you have sprayed. Also, be sure that you are only applying little green pea size dabs of bait and re baiting once a week. We would also recommend to include Gentol IGR Point Source. Gentrol Point Source is a special Roach control device that contains the Gentrol Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) hydroprene for 90-day control of roaches and other stored product pests. Activating Gentrol Point Source is as simple as squeezing the raised end of the plastic, adhesive-back device. This releases Gentrol IGR onto a filter paper. From there, it moves up to 75 square feet, damaging adult roaches and preventing them from reproducing.
