Our most popular general use product is called Talstar.  It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests. Talstar is also available in a granule formula called Talstar PL if you prefer to use granules.

    Q
Can I use Talstar P (Talstar One) around the perimeter of my garden for insect control?
    A
Talstar One (Talstar P) is labeled to be used around the perimeter of your home, broadcast across your lawn, on ornamentals  and trees and/or flowers. It is not labeled to be sprayed on edibles so if you have a vegetable/fruit garden, it should not be sprayed on it. It can be sprayed around your garden, just be mindful of how you are sprayed as to not spray the edibles. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
My apple tree has a carpenter ant nest.
If Talstar P should not be used on fruit trees, what is safe to use and eliminate the carpenter ants? If Talstar P is used to kill the carpenter ants on the fruit tree, is the fruit safe to eat after one year from using Talstar P.?
    A
Talstar P (Talstar One) cannot be used on an apple tree. We would recommend using the Carpenter Ant Kit # 1. It has a granular and a sugar bait. This can be placed in areas around the tree. The ants will take food back to the colony and eradicate it.

    Q
How do I get rid of the cloudy window effect yet maintain coverage for stink bugs?
I live in NY and sprayed around all the windows including the screens & doors. I had the pump sprayer set on mist yet now all the windows have dried looking cloudy and are no longer nice and clear. I used the recommended 1 ounce to 1 gallon. How can I get the windows clean again without losing the protection against the coming stink bug attack in the fall? Please advise & thank you in advance.
    A
We recommend that you only spray around the edges of the window frame to avoid wasting the product. Stink bugs will come in around the edges of the window so it is not effective in the middle of the window. The windows can be cleaned. The correct amount is Talstar P (Talstar One) is 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
Wasps in fascia of my home. Sprays don't work, should I fumigate attic? what product?
    A
If you know where the nests are you can apply Tempo 1% dust. We recommned that you use a hand duster and apply a dust such as Tempo dust to the holes where the wasps are going in and out. The dust will help eliminate the wasps in the nest and any other wasps returning to the nest. Tempo dust will stay effective for several months as long as it is dry. We are not aware of a product that would eliminate the wasp pheromone to help stop wasps from returning to a particular area.  After dusting in the void where the wasps have a built a nest you can try spraying the siding with a product such as Talstar P. You can spray once a month and any wasp that lands on treated areas will be eliminated within about 24 hours which should stop new wasps from being able to build a nest.

    Q
What's the difference between fogging and mist blower?
Talstar can be used in a backpack sprayer or a mist blower like the Solo 451 but it cannot be used in any type of fogging equipment. Please take a look at our Fogging Concentrates to see if any of these might be more suited to your application needs.
    A

ULV, Thermal or Propane Foggers produce micro droplets that are much smaller in size than the size droplets of a mist blower or handpump sprayer.  Fogging tends to move and drift further than a mist due to the droplets being smaller in size. A lot of fogging solutions require the use of kerosene or oil in the mixture which can potentially damage surfaces and often have a strong smell. Fogging Solutions only provide immediate kill and may last anywhere from a few hours to 1-2 days.

Handpump sprayers, backpack sprayers, and mist blowers allow applicators to use microencapsulated insecticides for longer residual outdoors. Using freshwater for mixed solutions allows for applications to be virtually odorless and will not stain or leave an unpleasant scent. Sprayers and mist blowers offer the option of tank mixing other class insecticides for longer and better control.

For example, if treating heavy mosquito populations, we would recommend using 3 products. Talstar P (residual insecticide) with ExciteR (pyrethrin/synergist/knockdown) and Insect Growth Regulator (stops the growth cycle of juvenile insects). These 3 products can be tank mixed in the same tank and applied all at the same time.

Looking for the best product against vine borrowers?
Have the moths flying around mu pumpkin patch
    A

Talstar P Professional Insecticide is not labeled for use in or around edible crops. We would recommend using Fertilome Triple Action for squash vine borers. This product is an insecticide, fungicide and miticide all in one. This can be used up until the day of harvest.

Talstar P Professional Insecticide should not harm plants or other ornamentals. Just do not apply during the hottest time of the day to ensure it does not damage them due to heat. Remember it cannot be applied to anything edible.

    Q
Do you have a program to cover the major insect pests: ants, spiders, roaches, termites?
We don't have a specific problem, although we notice some spiders, and an occasional ant or roach every few months. I'd like to start a regular program to make sure we never develop a problem. Currently, I set out roach traps every 6 months and use a fire ant bait every year in the yard.

    Q
what can i use for inside and outside for general insect kill
I am currently on a quarterly spray but would like to do my own to save me money ,I would like to known what all in one product I could mix and apply that would kill most common insects and bugs that won't pets or leave a white residue on things. Also I would like mouse blocks that can be used in boxes and also just thrown under the house . Please show what your best options are in a concentrate to mix and use on a quarterly basis. Thanks
    A

Talstar P is labeled for over 75 types of insects and our most popular insecticide for general pest control. Talstar P has a residual of 30 days outside (perimeter or broadcast spray) and 90 days inside the home(crack and crevice) Talstar One is odorless, dries clear, leaves no stains, is non-irritating to the skin, and won't break down easily with rainfall.

For Mice control, depending on the level of infestation we recommend the Protecta RTU Mouse Bait Stations Case(12 Stations) with Fastrac Blox. These stations hold 1 bait blox and can be placed in corners where mice travel. Fastrac is a quick knockdown rodenticide with a Stop feed action after consuming lethal dose, usually within 12-48 hours.

If you are needing a larger bait station, we recommend the Protecta Mouse Bait Station that can hold up to 4 standard size blox. These would work better for you under the home.

  • Asked by Joyce from United States

    Q
How can I get rid of my roaches?
I bought Talstar and have been using it for 2 weeks. The roaches are getting worse instead of better. I also used Invict Gold bait. What am I doing wrong?
    A
While Talstar will kill roaches that come in contact with it, it will not stop the problem. Make sure you are not baiting where you have sprayed. Also, be sure that you are only applying little green pea size dabs of bait and re baiting once a week. We would also recommend to include Gentol IGR Point Source. Gentrol Point Source is a special Roach control device that contains the Gentrol Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) hydroprene for 90-day control of roaches and other stored product pests. Activating Gentrol Point Source is as simple as squeezing the raised end of the plastic, adhesive-back device. This releases Gentrol IGR onto a filter paper. From there, it moves up to 75 square feet, damaging adult roaches and preventing them from reproducing.

    Q
    Will Talstar harm reptiles?
    A
As long as the reptiles are out of the area while you are doing the actual application of the Talstar, it shouldn't effect them. You will most likely see a reduction in the reptile populations on your property though as you will be eliminating their food source (insects).

    Q
What is a general recommendation for a program/steps to minimize/eliminate spiders, ants and insects in a home?
My wife and I purchased a renovated home in June 2014. Typical two story colonial with a basement and crawlspace just Northeast of Philadelphia. We've seen a few ants and spiders as we've moved into the Fall season. Is there a DIY suggested program to apply to the house to protect it from insects and to eliminate those that may be starting to come inside?
    A
Using Talstar P would be a great option for outdoor perimeter and indoor control. Talstar P is labeled for over 75 types of insects and will leave a 90 day residual inside the home and 30 day residual outside the home.  In a hand pump sprayer, mix .33-1 fl oz of Talstar with 1 gallon of water. Spray 2-3ft up the foundation and 2-3ft out from the foundation focusing on entry points to the home (window frames, window sills, door entries, cracks in foundation, etc) . Inside the home, spray Talstar as a crack and crevice treament along baseboards, corners, storage areas, closets, around water pipes, doors and windows, attics and eaves, behind and under refrigerators, cabinets, sinks, furnaces, stoves, the underside of shelves, drawers and similar areas.

    Q
I did use Talstar on the inside bottom of couch , will this hurt family
    A

Talstar P is not labeled to be used on furniture, only as a crack and crevice treatment. The label reads to apply as a coarse, low pressure, crack and crevice or spot spray to areas where pests hide, such as baseboards, corners, storage areas, closets, around water pipes, doors and windows, attics and eaves, behind and under refrigerators, cabinets, sinks, furnaces, stoves, the underside of shelves, drawers and similar areas.

We recommend steam cleaning the furniture where the Talstar P has been applied to remove any residual. Please read label thoroughly for listed areas on where Talstar P is to be applied.
