    A

Talstar P Professional Insecticide is not labeled for use in or around edible crops. We would recommend using Fertilome Triple Action for squash vine borers. This product is an insecticide, fungicide and miticide all in one. This can be used up until the day of harvest.

    Q
What insecticide is good for a firewood stack?
    A

You can use Talstar P to treat the area where you will be stacking up your firewood, wait for it to dry and then stack the wood. There are also instructions on the label, on page 4, to use 1 oz per gallon of water and use a gallon per 8 square feet to spray and drench the soil where the firewood will be stacked to protect the firewood from carpenter ants and termites as well. Talstar P is labeled to help control beetles, pillbugs, and many other pests. Please read the product label for complete application instructions.

    Q
Does this product kill carpenter bees and stop them from coming back?
    A

Yes, Talstar P is labeled for and will help eliminate bees. To use Talstar P for carpenter bee control you should mix 1 oz of Talstar per 1 gallon of water and spray the areas where you have noticed activity such as the eaves, fascia boards, moldings, overhangs, or siding. You should reapply the Talstar P once a month through the warm season for the best results. Please note that Talstar P will not offer an instant knockdown of insects, it will take several minutes to a few hours for them to die after they come into contact with treated areas. We also recommend dusting the carpenter bee holes with dust such as Tempo Dust to help kill any larva inside. Do not plug the holes for at least 30 days after dusting to prevent the developing larva from drilling a new hole to exit.

Please refer to our online Carpenter Ant Treatment Guide for more tips.

    Q
Can this be sprayed around the perimeter of a raised vegetable bed?
I have some raised vegetable beds that have cockroaches living in the wood mulch and eating my strawberries. Can I spray this around the perimeter of the raised garden bed to treat any roaches moving in or out of the bed? I also plan on using food grade diatomaceous earth inside the bed, and am looking into bait stations as well. What is the best way to treat these?
    A

Talstar P cannot be used on or around any type of edible vegetation. We do carry a full line of products that are labeled for use on edible plants which you can see here: Edible Garden Products. As for the diatomaceous earth that is fine as long as the product label states it can be used in that manner. For the bait, as long as you keep the bait contained in a station, you can use just about any type. Advion Cockroach Bait Arena is a great option. You just don't want it to come in contact with the vegetables.

Is it safe to spray Talstar on the drywall around my interior windows? Ants have gotten in through some exterior gaps in the caulk, which I have since fixed, but now seem to be coming through a small gap in the trim around the interior window.
    A

Talstar P Professional Insecticide can not be applied to drywall. It can be applied indoors, in cracks and crevices only, such as baseboards and window/door frames. You may want to look over our Ant Control Guide for more information on treating this pest.

    Q
Should I rotate bifenthrin with a different insecticide class?
I’ve been using Talstar for years around my home exterior, for mosquito control in my lawn, and in garden bed areas. Its worked well for the time that Ive been using. However, Im wondering if I should consider rotating with something else to prevent resistance?
    A

Yes, rotating insecticides is a good idea to prevent resistance however this normally takes years to happen. Some customer rotate every year or when they start to notice the product may not be working as well as it did in the beginning. It would not hurt to use another active ingredient for your next treatment, a great alternative to Talstar is Suspend SC. Mix 1.5oz Suspend SC with 1 gallon of water along with the Archer IGR for Mosquito control

    Q
Is Talstar P effective on Bat bugs?
We will be removing bats in the attic so will need to spray after they are gone. The bats are in the attic. We don't want the Bugs to move into the living space below
    A

Bat bugs are treated very similarly to bed bugs. Bats are their preferred host, but this does not negate them from humans. They do tend to come once the bats are gone because they are looking for a host. We would recommend using Temprid FX as a treatment for the rooms. You will mix 16 mL per gallon of water and treat in the room that has the bugs as well as all the surrounding rooms to prevent them from spreading. This will be applied with a pump sprayer. You will do this every 10-14 days until you do not see any activity for 30 days. We would also recommend using Cimexa Dust in the wall voids. You will do a couple of puffs per wall outlet and light plate with a hand duster. You will do this in all the wall voids of the home.

    Q
    Compare to dragnet
How does this compare to Dragnet?
    A
Talstar P is water-based, and will not stain most surfaces that water alone would not stain and low odor. It is one of the most popular products on the market for general pest control. Dragnet is oil-based and a bit pungent and can cause staining. Dragnet does offer a faster kill because the oil in the product does cause insects directly sprayed to suffocate.
