    Q
Will Tempo 1% Dust work on the exterior paper wasp and yellow jacket nests?
Will this product work on nests/colonies that are not in an interior location? We have many nests on our house in our attic vents, window shutters, under the eaves, and under our bow windows. We have been spraying to kill them for years, but they keep making new nests in all the same places over and over again. I want to finally get rid of them for good!! Thanks.
    A
Absolutely!  You can apply Tempo Dust anywhere you see wasps, yellow jackets, and any other pest for that matter are entering either your home or another structure.  You can even use Tempo Dust for yellow jackets nesting in the ground or in a nest hanging from a tree.  Tempo Dust is by far our best selling dust for flying insects.  It will typically wipe out a nuisance next within 24 hours.  It is best to apply the dust in the late evening when they are not actively flying around anymore.  1 to 2 puffs from a hand duster is all that you need.

    Q
How do I exterminate a hornets nest from a rock retaining wall?
    A

If you are seeing hornets coming in and out through cracks in the retaining wall, then a great product to use would be Tempo 1% Dust. You should apply the Tempo 1% Dust with a duster such as the B&G Bulb Duster 1150 and direct the dust into the cracks in the wall where you are seeing the insects enter and exit. You may also want to have Wasp Freeze on hand for quick knockdown of flying insects in the area.

    Q
How well does tempo dust work on carpenter ants?
    A
Tempo Dust is a great product to use in a wall void or other area if you know that is where the ants are nesting.  However, if you have ants inside and outside the house, but have no idea where the nest is, you should use a bait that the ants will take back to the colony for you.  Our best selling carpenter ant products are in a carpenter ant kit.  There is a bait for application outside and inside where you see activity.  It has a very high success rate; read the reviews.

    Q
Is Tempo 1% Dust the best insecticide to use for bald face hornets, European hornets, and yellow jackets?
I just purchased the professional bee suit. I need to remove some hornet nests from under the roofline of a house and on the power pole, both are too high to be able to spray them so I am removing them. Normally I wouldn't bother them but the elderly widow that lives there is allergic to them so I will need to get rid of them for her protection.
    A

To get into those higher areas, you could use the Dustick Duster applicator.  Tempo 1% dust is the most effective dust to treat for hornets and yellow jackets. Be sure to treat in the times of the day when they are less active (earlier morning or later evening). You may also want to use a ready-to-use knockdown insecticide such as PT Wasp Freeze II. This spray will spray up to 15 away for safe and quick knockdown of flying, stinging insects.

    Q
Can I use tempo dust on air vents?
Wasps are coming from attic through Air conditioner vents in ceiling. Is it safe to dust these vents that push air into the rooms?
    A
Tempo 1% Dust dust should not be broadcast over the entire attic. Instead you should concentrate on dusting the cracks, crevices and voids and other areas where these insects harbor. If you have vents that blow air through the attic and into the home caution should be used to take care the dust is not blown through the vents.

    Q
What would be a reasonable estimate for the time it takes to kill a carpenter bee after dust?
I may be getting too unrealistic in my expectation for carpenter bees dying. If a bee crawls through sprayed dust when can he be expected to die? Thanks for your help!!
    A
Depending on what stage the bee is in the life cycle it can take minutes to hours. The idea is that the adult bees carry the dust in the holes to the larvae.

    Q
    Tempo dust or Tempo spray?
I want to know which is the best to kill bed bugs and can we put tempo dust on the bed to kill them and would it be safe with our kids sleeping on the bed. How should I go about this, I have little ones and I want to make sure they don't get sick. Is this tempo dust better than the new product cimexa insecticide dust. The bed bugs are mostly on the kids bed, sheets and corner walls. What can I do to make it safe. Thank You
    A
We actually would recommend different products all together for bed bugs. Our Bed Bug kits are the most effective. Please also read our How to Get Rid of Bed bug article. It is safe for your children to enter the treated areas after the treated areas have dried.

  • Asked by Keith from Oh

    Q
What do you recommend for hornets in eves?
Is there a powder or some type of product that will get into an eve soffet to rid the porch of hornets?
    A
We would recommend using Tempo 1% Dust for treating any type of nest in a soffet or wall. Puffing a couple of times into the entrance in the evening when they are less active will allow the dust to enter and they will carry it on their bodies through the nest. It can often take 2-3 weeks at least for all life cycles to be completely affected. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Asked by Buzz from Erlanger, Ky

    Q
How can I get rid of cicada killer bees?
    A
Tempo dust would be a good choice to help control the cicada killers. Tempo dust offers a pretty fast knockdown though you should note that it does not offer an instant knockdown. You may want to consider using a instant knockdown spray such as Eco PCO Jet-X. Eco PCO Jet-X provides instant knockdown and kill of stinging insects. The Jet Spray can be sprayed up to 15 ft. Cicada Killer wasps thrive in disturbed environments, such as landscaped yards and places where bare soil is exposed. You can discourage the wasps from nesting in your yard by cutting your grass on the highest setting and by adding a thick layer of mulch to flower beds during the Cicada Killer Wasp season. These wasps do not like over saturated lawns either, so over watering during their season will help prevent them. Unfortunately there is no fool proof way to prevent cicada killer wasps.

    Q
What is an effective product to eliminate yellow jackets in the wall behind outside singles?
The nest is not visible. We have used aerosol sprays in the opening in the shingle, but they have not been effective. This problem has occurred in other areas of our home in past seasons. We have used an exterminator in the past, but at this point, it's too expensive. I believe we need a powder that can be applied to the opening that the wasps will carry into the nest. I reside in NY.
    A
Tempo 1% dust would be a great insecticide dust to use around and in the openings where the yellow jackets are entering and exiting the shingles. Tempo Dust formulation contains one of the most effective compounds available for quick knockdown and long-term residual control of stinging insects. We do recommend that the dust be applied with a hand duster to be sure the dust is getting into the crevice.

    Q
Tempo vs Delta Dust for brown recluse
Will the tempo or delta dust be more efective agaist the brown recluse? Thanks
    A
Both dusts would work very well for spiders. Delta dust does have an advantage if you need to treat in damp or moist areas though as it is waterproof and will work even if wet. You should note that dusts do not offer a quick knockdown.

    Q
2 days after spraying my baseboards my cat found a mouse in my house that had walked through the treated area
My cat became paralyzed and died. Could the tempo have been responsible? Should I be concerned for my family?
    A
We are sorry to hear about your cat. However, we cannot be certain that the Tempo 1% Dust is the culprit. Although, we are certain that the Tempo 1% Dust is a very safe product as long as it is used according to the manufactures recommendations on the product label.

    Q
Is Tempo Dust 1% a good product against Cicada Killers?
I get holes in my lawn. These CK's dig in leaving a thumb width trail of dirt (soil) outside the hole. I have a contract with a insect pest control outfit, the "technician" shows up once a week to squirt powder in the holes. By the time he comes back, I have 15 to 30 more holes to deal with. I need an insecticide that I can use on a daily bases to control and rid these annoying flying two and a half inch "Killer Cicadas" around me, and they are destroying the appearance of my lawn. This is the second year in a row I'm having this problem. Will this Tempo Dust 1% help me rid these Cicada Killers.

    Q
Your Q&A says Tempo is safe for pets once the treated area dries. It's a powder; is it unsafe in powder form?
I want to dust a shed that contains a hornet nest; the hornets are incredibly aggressive even at 3am so my safest option is to make a cloud of dust and run like hell. Stray cats sometimes get in the shed; will they be harmed by the dust after it settles?
    A
Tempo 1% Dust is safe to use in places where pets and children will be as long as you follow the product label and only apply the dust in allowed places.

  • Asked by Lena from San Diego, Ca

    Q
How effective is Tempo 1% dust against dry wood termite?
I have 3 sections of termite nests in my townhouse, unfortunately my neighbor does not want to tent. How effective is tempo 1% against termites if they are located in the walls? What steps should I take to eliminate them?
    A
The purpose of termite applications of TEMPO 1% Dust is solely to kill workers or winged reproductive forms which may be present in treated channels at the time of treatment. Tempo will not transfer from termite to termite and you must drill into the wood to apply the dust directly to the galleries with a hand duster. When treating for drywood termites you must be able to either remove the infested pieces of wood or directly treat the wood with a product such as Boracare which will penetrate into the wood from the outside (still must access the wood but you do not have to drill into the wood. Boracare can only be used on wood that has never been painted, stained or sealed) or you must drill into the wood and apply a product such as Tempo dust or even better Termidor Foam which will expand and move through the galleries and the termites will even spread the product for you through social interaction.
