    Q
there are a lot of reviews for wasps bees & hornets. how effective is the Tempo Dust on german roaches?
    A
While the Tempo is a great dust and would work in wall voids and around baseboards to kill roaches of any kind as well as other pests, there are other methods that are much more effective for something has hard to control as german roaches. We recommend looking at some of our Roach Control Kits as well as our helpful article How To Get Rid of Roaches for the best, quickest, and most effective methods of elimination of the colony.

    Q
What would be a reasonable estimate for the time it takes to kill a carpenter bee after dust?
I may be getting too unrealistic in my expectation for carpenter bees dying. If a bee crawls through sprayed dust when can he be expected to die? Thanks for your help!!
    A
Depending on what stage the bee is in the life cycle it can take minutes to hours. The idea is that the adult bees carry the dust in the holes to the larvae.

    Q
Is it ok to use Tempo Dust on a ground hornet nest located below a vegetable garden?
The opening to the nest is under wooden planks used to create a raised vegetable garden. The hornets have made a nest somewhere in burrows created by chipmunks throughout the vegetable garden.
    A
Tempo 1% Dust should NOT be applied to any edible vegetation or within five feet of the dripline of the edible garden area. If any get in the raised garden or other garden areas by drift, the vegetables should be discarded.

    Q
What should I use to control bumble bees?
Have a nest of these huge things somewhere in my shed wall or roof, last year just a few and didn't bother me, but this year if I even try to get near the shed like 20 of them swarm around my head to stop me....... do not know insects and cant afford an exterminator....... do I need to know where the nest is to kill them, or can I find a person who uses them for honey to come get them??????
    A
You can locate local bee keepers by contacting your local cooperative extension office.  Many bee farmers will come remove honey bees free of charge because of the recent decline in the honey bee population. If this is not an option for you, you can use a hand duster to apply a dust product such as Tempo Dust into and around the area where the bees seem to be gaining access to your home. Over a period of a couple of days to a week (timeline will depend on how many bees are contacting the treated area) this will kill off the colony that has taken up residence in your home. Any insecticide applications should be done very early in the morning or very late in the evening when the bees are less active. After the bees have been eliminated it is important to remove the bee hive from the void where the bees were nesting. Failure to remove the hive can lead to mold issues and secondary infestation from hive beetles and other insects. If the bee hive is in an area that is not easily accessible you may want to consider hiring a professional pest control operator.

    Q
    Delta Dust, Tempo Dust, or...?
We have a bed bug infestation in our apartment and the exterminator who's been spraying has mysteriously disappeared and his company no longer answers their phones, and the spray doesn't seem to be working at any rate. Is it okay to apply Delta Dust (which I already have) directly to our couch (which seems to be the most heavily infested) and other furniture, in addition to the crevicies and whatnot around the apt.? Or would Tempo Dust be better? I heard that the strain of Bed Bugs in Cincinnati have become resistant to Delta Dust. Would you recommend I get some Bedlam Plus as well? I have a plastic cover for my mattress, but that doesn't help us with the couch. The exterminator said we'd probably have to end up throwing the couch out. I don't want to do that as it was quite expensive. Also, do you have any further suggestions as to what we might do? Thanks you so very much!!
    A
Some Bed Bugs strains have become resistant to pyrethroid insecticides like Tempo and Delta Dust. If you suspect a resistancy issue then a pyrethroid based insecticide would not be recommended. CimeXa Insecticide Dust is the newest product available in the battle against bed bugs. CimeXa Dust is 100% Silica dust (pyrethroid free), is very safe, odorless, and will not stain.  CimeXa Dust will last up to 10 years when applied to undisturbed areas like wall voids, or frames of some furniture such as couches. It is very effective on bed bugs, especially pyrethroid resistant bed bugs. When pests come into contact with CimeXa, the product clings to their exoskeleton and absorbs the waxy coating, causing death from dehydration. You would want to reat the interior framework, cracks and joints of the furniture, and the folds, tufts and edges of cushions and other upholstered areas.

    Q
Can I use tempo dust on air vents?
Wasps are coming from attic through Air conditioner vents in ceiling. Is it safe to dust these vents that push air into the rooms?
    A
Tempo 1% Dust dust should not be broadcast over the entire attic. Instead you should concentrate on dusting the cracks, crevices and voids and other areas where these insects harbor. If you have vents that blow air through the attic and into the home caution should be used to take care the dust is not blown through the vents.

    Q
Your Q&A says Tempo is safe for pets once the treated area dries. It's a powder; is it unsafe in powder form?
I want to dust a shed that contains a hornet nest; the hornets are incredibly aggressive even at 3am so my safest option is to make a cloud of dust and run like hell. Stray cats sometimes get in the shed; will they be harmed by the dust after it settles?
    A
Tempo 1% Dust is safe to use in places where pets and children will be as long as you follow the product label and only apply the dust in allowed places.

    Q
How can I kill yellow jackets coming in my basement from a nest in the ceiling?
We sprayed the outside entrance and now they are coming in thru cracks around duct-work in the ceiling
    A
Please check out our article "How to Get Rid of Yellow Jackets". If you can get to the openings where the yellow jackets are coming in and out from we highly recommend applying a dust like Tempo 1% Dust and when the yellow jacket comes in contact with it, the dust will transfer from yellow jacket to yellow jacket and kill off the entire nest.

    Q
What do you recommend for hornets in eves?
Is there a powder or some type of product that will get into an eve soffet to rid the porch of hornets?
    A
We would recommend using Tempo 1% Dust for treating any type of nest in a soffet or wall. Puffing a couple of times into the entrance in the evening when they are less active will allow the dust to enter and they will carry it on their bodies through the nest. It can often take 2-3 weeks at least for all life cycles to be completely affected. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
Applied Tempo Dust for wasps about 3-4 weeks ago and now they have returned. Do we reapply?
    A
Tempo 1% Dust will work great if the entry way to the nesting location is lightly dusted. It could be that there is another nesting area that needs dusted late in the evening when they are the least active.

    Q
How can I kill wasps that are nesting behind soffits or shutters?
I've seen several wasps going behind the ribbed gaps between the aluminum soffit and the facia. I've also seen several going behind decorative window shutters. It appears that we have a fair amount of wasp actvity in our area. I'd also like to know how to prevent them from nesting in the furnace inlet/exhaust pvc pipes or the chimney flue. Thanks for your help!
    A
We recommned that you use a hand duster and apply a dust such as Tempo dust to the holes where the wasps are going in and out. The dust will help eliminate the wasps in the nest and any other wasps returning to the nest. Tempo dust will stay effective for several months as long as it is dry. We are not aware of a product that would eliminate the wasp pheromone to help stop wasps from returning to a particular area.  After dusting in the void where the wasps have a built a nest you can try spraying the siding with a product such as Talstar P. You can spray once a month and any wasp that lands on treated areas will be eliminated within about 24 hours which should stop new wasps from being able to build a nest.

Can Tempo dust be used on attic insulation?
I noticed some bees in my attic insulation. I was unable to find the nest. The bees were sporadic in the insulation. Can I use Tempo dust on top of the insulation? Any other tips on how to treat this problem?
    A
Although, you can use Tempo Dust, we recommend using Alpine Dust. Alpine Dust will NOT excite the bees like Tempo Dust can. You want to make sure to apply Alpine Dust where you have seen activity.

    Q
How effective is Tempo 1% dust against dry wood termite?
I have 3 sections of termite nests in my townhouse, unfortunately my neighbor does not want to tent. How effective is tempo 1% against termites if they are located in the walls? What steps should I take to eliminate them?
    A
The purpose of termite applications of TEMPO 1% Dust is solely to kill workers or winged reproductive forms which may be present in treated channels at the time of treatment. Tempo will not transfer from termite to termite and you must drill into the wood to apply the dust directly to the galleries with a hand duster. When treating for drywood termites you must be able to either remove the infested pieces of wood or directly treat the wood with a product such as Boracare which will penetrate into the wood from the outside (still must access the wood but you do not have to drill into the wood. Boracare can only be used on wood that has never been painted, stained or sealed) or you must drill into the wood and apply a product such as Tempo dust or even better Termidor Foam which will expand and move through the galleries and the termites will even spread the product for you through social interaction.

    Q
How should I get rid of an underground nest of yellow jackets that live under my deck?
I see yellow jackets coming and going in a three foot area from between one deck board, in my backyard, all day long. I ordered Tempo 1% dust and the bellows hand duster. Should I just pump the dust along the crack between that deck board where they enter and exit, or do I have to remove the board and find the nest? I greatly appreciate your assistance. Your product should be here in a couple of days.
    A
You can initially try just to apply the Tempo 1% dust between the cracks and see if it takes care of the problem. If the nest is larger or further away from the crack then you could be required to remove the board to directly treat the area.

    Q
Tempo vs Delta Dust for brown recluse
Will the tempo or delta dust be more efective agaist the brown recluse? Thanks
    A
Both dusts would work very well for spiders. Delta dust does have an advantage if you need to treat in damp or moist areas though as it is waterproof and will work even if wet. You should note that dusts do not offer a quick knockdown.
