    Q
    Does Tenacity control Quackgrass?
I know quackgrass is not specifically mentioned on the product label, but I have read some unscientific research saying it does control and eliminate quackgrass with repeated applications.
    A
Just as you stated Quackgrass is not on the label to be controlled by the Tenacity, and we cannot recommend you use it for your needs with it not being listed. We do however carry Certainty, which is a selective post emergent herbicide like Tenacity, and does have Quackgrass listed on the label for weeds controlled. You can see the dilutions and what grasses Certainty is safe to be used on, on the product label.

    Q
    Tenacity with overseeding timing
I know you can put down tenacity at time of overseeding, but if you miss it do you have to wait 4-6 weeks? Or could you do it a week after overseeding for example? I was thinking if it doesn't affect germination that you should be put it down whenever you wanted regardless of when you overseeded, but don't know for sure. Thanks.
    A

Tenacity Herbicide is best applied right at the time of seeding or close to for best results. It can be applied later if needed for the turfgrasses listed on the label with the following precaution: Avoid spraying on newly germinated turfgrass plants. Wait until the newly germinated turf has been mowed two times or four weeks after emergence (whichever is longer) before making a postemergence application.

    Q
I applied Tenacity and now the new seedlings are turning white, will this green up?
I applied tenacity and seeded several days later. The seedlings are coming up and turning white. Will these new seedlings turn green and survive?
    A

Yes, you can see some whitening of new grass after applying Tenacity.  Unless renovating and/or re-seeding the home lawn, avoid broadcast applications of Tenacity for pre and post-emergence weed control because undesirable whitening of some turf grasses may occur.

    Q
Is Tenacity Herbicide Effective on broadleaf woody invasive and poison ivy?
I'm having difficulty with oriental bittersweet and poison ivy. Is this herbicide effective?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide  would not be the best product for Poison Ivy. BK 32 would be a better option for Bittersweet and Poison IVy. BK32 can be applied to most Residential Turf: Bluegrass, Fesue, Rye, Bent, Bermuda, Bahia and Zoysia Lawns
Avoid application to St. Augustine or Centipede lawns unless injury can be tolerated.

  • Asked by Mg from New York, Ny

    Q
When is the best time to do aeration and seeding when using Tenacity?
I am going to apply 3 coats of tenacity to my yard. I was told that every two weeks should be performed. But when is the best time to do aeration and seeding? I am going to start in the first week of September. I live in NYC so I am worried that it gets cold in late October
    A

If you are applying Tenacity as a pre-emergent herbicide at all, then you would want to do any work that would disrupt the soil (such as aeration) before putting down your pre-emergent. For post-emergent control, we recommend waiting a minimum of 2 days – but ideally at least a week –  after applying the herbicide before aerating. You can apply Tenacity before or at the same time that you put down seed; just do not apply Tenacity to the new seedlings until the new turf is established.

  • Asked by John from Jeffersonville, Indiana
    06/28/2018
    Q
Can I use Tenacity to kill nimblewill before fall seeding?
I would like to use Tenacity to kill out some nimblewill and other weeds before I seed with a tall fescue blend of grass seed in the fall, around September 1st. If it may take two applications of Tenacity, when should I use my two applications for best results? IE. first application of Tenacity on July 15 and second application of Tenacity on August 15 then seed my tall fescue blend on September 1st ? Also, for a 10,000 sq. ft yard, how much would I need for two applications?
    A

To control nimblewill, you should start applying Tenacity Herbicide in the spring (late-April). You will need to make two or three applications to get complete control.  You can also apply Tenacity in late summer and fall, but you should initiate treatments by August for best results.

If you are spot treating, you will need to use 1 tsp. of Tenacity along with 3 tsp. Non Ionic Surfactant in 2 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft.  Otherwise apply Tenacity at 5 fl. oz. per acre in at least 30 gallons of water per acre.

  • Asked by Joshua from Canton, Oh

    Q
Can aerate after using Tenacity Herbicide?
I'm trying to build a schedule but I have a hard time planning it out. I plan to core aerate my yard now and then after winter and again in the fall and overseed. Does it matter when I aerate after applying this stuff or do I need to wait until all the weed grasses are gone? I assume that the weeds being covered by this will still die even if they end up buried under the cores.
    A

SInce you can use Tenacity Herbicide either prior to or during seeding of certain turfgrasses you could either aerate before or after using the product and it would still work. There is nothing on the product label stating that there is a certain time to do aerating.

  • Asked by Jeffrey from Germantown, Wi
    03/23/2019
    Q
Can I mix Tenacity and Prodiamine 65WDG together for an early spring app.?
Does Prodiamine dilute enough to not clog tank sprayer?
    A

Tenacity has been tested in tank mixtures with Barricade 65WG Herbicide (prodiamine) so yes, it would be okay to use.  You would use the labeled rates for the Prodiamine, which when mixed correctly should not clog a tank sprayer.

  • Asked by Rebecca from Long Island Ny
    10/14/2018
    Q
Should Tenacity Herbicide be applied before or after overseeding?
And if after how long should I wait after overseeding?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide can be used at the time of seeding for most grass types. Fine fescue is the only grass seed that should not be used at the time of application. It is recommended that you wait 2-4 weeks after an application of Tenacity Herbicide to reseed with fine fescue.

  • Asked by Sandy from Mentor, Oh
    09/25/2018
    Q
When can we put seed down after treating the yard with Tenacity Herbicide?
We have an established lawn. We sprayed the backyard and spot treated the front. Also, do we rake the dead spots or just seed over the yard? Is it best to put dirt down also before seeding?
    A

You can use Tenacity Herbicide before or at the same time as seeding with most cool-season turf. So if you are overseeding with tall fescue or bluegrass, for example, then you can put down the seed anytime after apply Tenacity. If there is dead plant matter, then it is always a good idea to remove the dead plants before overseeding to help the new seeds reach the soil and establish. You can apply extra top soil as needed before seeding.

  • Asked by Kenn from Pueblo, Colorado
    03/13/2016
    Q
Can Tenacity Herbicide be applied in Spring time?
Bentgrass is just starting to show some green and growth in my Kentucky bluegrass. Still cool at night.
    A

Post-emergent herbicides like Tenacity Herbicide work best when the plant is young and actively growing. Since that is what you are currently seeing, now would be a good time for the first application.

  • Asked by Quintin from Kansas City
    04/06/2018
    Q
What's the difference between Tenacity Herbicide and Quinkill Max?
I have a fescue lawn, I like that tenacity turns the weeds white making it easy to spot. I want to kill crabgrass and grassy weeds. For tenacity what's the process for applying when overseeding?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide and QuinKill Max have different active ingredients and different modes of action. QuinKill contains quinclorac, which is a post-emergent herbicide targeting primarily grassy weeds like crabgrass. Tenacity can be a pre-emergent or a post-emergent, depending on the application and the target weeds. There is a complete list of action on the product label. If you are overseeding with fescue, then you can apply Tenacity at or as close to seeding as possible, except for fine fescue seedings. Avoid applications to newly emerged seedlings until established (4 weeks or after the second mowing, whichever is longer). Please refer to the product label for complete application instructions.

  • Asked by Kristin from West River, Md
    03/30/2018
    Q
Should I apply Tenacity to bare soil or after mulching for best effectiveness as pre-emergent weed control?
I have planted a row of Arborvitae and want to know if I should put Tenacity before or after I mulch?
    A

If you are planning to add any type of groundcover like mulch or pine straw, it is always best to put down your pre-emergent and water it in before applying the groundcover. In this situation, however, we would not recommend using Tenacity Herbicide next to or under desirable trees or ornamental plants. Per the product label, " Avoid over-spray or drift of spray applications onto ornamentals or flower beds and gardens. Roses and daylilies are sensitive plant species. Avoid applications over the top of exposed roots of trees and ornamentals."  Our most popular pre-emergent herbicide for use around established ornamental plants is Snapshot.
