    Q
Is Tengard SFR effective to treat an infestation of powder post beetles?
    A
You should use a wood treatment product to treat powder post beetles.  Bora-Care is the best wood treatment product available.  Bora-Care will penetrate through the wood and kill the larvae eating the wood no matter where they are in the wood.  However, it can only be applied to raw wood.  It cannot be applied to wood that is painted, stained, or sealed.  If your wood is painted, stained, or sealed, then you will need to drill holes and inject Bora-Care or sand the finish off of the wood, treat with Bora-Care, and then refinish the wood. Dominion is not a wood treatment product and will not move through the wood.  You should use a wood treatment product like Bora-Care

    Q
Is Tengard or Bora Care best to treat stress trees from beetle invasion? or straight permethrin
We have dozens of trees subjected to latestest CA drought, which are susceptible to beetle infiltration, which is fatal. Tengard has been suggested locally, but from your QA section you mentioned Bora Care is better, but did not mention what is best for live trees. We have a short window to be proactive, and want to make the most informed decision. Also, is straight Permethrin an option? Pro and cons so we can proceed. Thanks
    A
BoraCare is only labeled to be used on cut wood, not live trees. Tengard SFR is a permethrin based product and would be a great choice for helping to prevent an infestation.  The tree should be sprayed from the ground to 15 ft up the trunk to prevent future infestations

  • Asked by Joe from Scottsdale

    Q
Does Tengard SFR Termiticide and Insecticide work to create a barrier and kill scorpions?
    A

Yes, Tengard SFR Termiticide and Insecticide will kill scorpions both by contact and with the oil that is in the insecticide, however Tengard will not have as long a residual as many other insecticides that are popular for this pest. Our Scorpion Control Kit includes Demand CS, which is water-based and micro-encapsulated to hold up better in sunlight, heat, and rainfall, plus a UV flashlight to help spot scorpions at night and glue boards to help trap and monitor scorpions.

  • Asked by Mark from Arnold, Ca

    Q
What should I use for pine tree beetle control in CA?
I am trying to protect mature, established pine trees from beetles. I understand the application rates, but I cannot find the intervals (how often) Tengard should be applied.Once a year, quarter, month? A separate question is the height of application. The trees I would be applying the insecticide to are 60' to 80' high. I cannot apply into the canopy as recommended. Would 10'-12' on the trunk work? Thanks for you help!
    A

Tengard SFR can be used monthly as needed for pine tree beetles. There should not be more than 2 lbs of product used per acre per year. You will spray the lower branches and trunks prior to adult emergence.

  • Asked by Teresa from Almont, Michigan

    Q
What is the mix ratio of Tengard SFR to treat for Zimmerman Pine Moths?
I read that Tengard SFR could be used to soak the main trunk of a pine tree in August
    A

Tengard SFR Termiticide and Insecticide is labeled for Zimmerman Pine Moth. According to the label you can use 4 to 8 fl oz per 100 gallons which would break down to 0.04 - 0.08 oz per gallon of water. We recommend to figure out how many gallons of water you need to soak the trunk thoroughly before mixing the product and applying it. Also, check with your local cooperative extension office for the best time of application in your area as some literature states that Spring applications have proven most effective and late Summer and Fall applications haven't been very effective.

    Q
Will Tengard SFR kill active termites when used as a spray?
    A

If you are just doing a topical treatment with Tengard SFR, if termites come in contact with the treated area, they will die. However, if you are treating for an active infestation, it is recommended that you dig a trench around the structure and pour the solution into the trench. A treatment with this product will last approximately 5 years.

  • Asked by Brandon from Nevada

    Q
Can Tengard be mixed with Demand or Talstar to have a better kill on pests?
    A

There is no valid to reason toe mix Tengard with other insecticides such as Demand CS or Talstar P.  It would not make either work better and can actually have a negative effect, making an area highly repellent so that insects will avoid it and the insecticides cannot do their job.

    Q
Can Tengard SFR be safely sprayed around gardens if not sprayed directly on the plants?
Can Tengard SFR be safely sprayed around gardens if not sprayed directly on the plants? Also is Tengard effective for mosquitoes?
    A
Tengard can be sprayed near gardens as long as you keep the product off of the plants and out of the drip-line/root zone of the plants. You should not actually use Tengard inside the garden plot. Tengard is only labeled to eliminate mosquitoes inside barns or animal holding facilities. For outdoor mosquito control Talstar P is our most popular product. The key is to mosquito control is to apply the selected product to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio where you are trying to provide relief.  Sprays should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out.  Talstar should be applied every 30 days for optimum control.

  • Asked by George from New Bern, N.c.

    Q
Wood boring bees in treated wood. Can I spray the wood with something to do away with them?
    A

We have a Carpenter Bee Kit that is our most popular product(s) for carpenter bee control.  The kit comes with a dust and a hand duster to apply in the existing holes.  The dust will kill any carpenter bees that are in the holes and will kill the larvae when they hatch.  After a few days all of the adult carpenter bees that are in the holes will die.  You can patch the holes at this point.  The kit also comes with a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  You should treat all of the fascia boards or any surfaces that the carpenter bees seem to be going after.  This will prevent any new holes.  When a carpenter bee lands on the wood surface to make a new hole, it will pick up the product you sprayed on its body and die when it grooms itself.  Carpenter bees are only around for a short time in the spring, and then again in the fall.  You will have to apply both times of the year and then after 2 seasons there will not be any more larvae in the wood.

    Q
    Will Tengard prevent Asian beetles?
    A

Asian beetles are impossible to control 100% because they can easily fly in from outlying areas. When used as directed, Tengard will help eliminate a large portion of the Asian population before they enter structures or damage plants. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
