Termidor SC Termiticide/Insecticide - Questions & Answers

We recommend storing insecticide cocentrates such as Termidor SC out of direct sunlight and in temperatures no less than 45 degrees nd no higher than 85 degrees. 

We would reommend drilling through the gap or 3 inches away from the foundation of your home. Holes should be spaced 12 inches apart and drill holes should be a minimum of 6 inches deep below the cooncrete. Concrete is typically 3-4 inches in depth, therefore, you wold need to drill a total of 10-12 inches.

As long as you can apply  Termidor SC in the trench indoors and out, then there should be no reason to have to treat the cinder blocks.

To treat a concrete slab, you will come 2-3 inches off the wall and drill holes 10-12 inches apart using an 18in-24in drill bit. Using a 5 gallon bucket, mix 4 gallons of mixed solution (.8 fl oz of Termidor SC per gallon of water) and pour the 4 gallons of mixed solution in the drilled holes for 10 linear feet. Usually each hole will take approx 1/2 gallon of solution. It is easier to use a funnel to pour the solution into the holes. If there is a crawl space at any point, dig a 6x6 inch deep trench around any post or cinder blocks in the crawlspace and pour the Termidor SC mixture into that soil.

No, Termidor SC is no longer toxic when dry. It is safe for your children to play near the area where Termidor SC was used once it is dry.

That is a great question. Here is a in depth response from our termite treatment article "You drill holes through the concrete about 2 to 3 inches away from the wall or foundation, and about every 10"-12" apart, only on the seam where the concrete is against the foundation. You are not only drilling through just the concrete here, but also as deep as you can into the dirt.  The deeper the better. Once the holes are drilled, you fill at the same rate you did the trench, 4 gallons per 10 feet. If you drilled the holes 12 inches apart, then you would have 10 holes over 10 feet that you are trying to fill with 4 gallons.  This works out to be a little less than half a gallon per hole. To fill these I would recommend using the one gallon sprayer on a "pin stream" setting so you can force the liquid down the hole and not splash it everywhere. You can also use a funnel and pour the termiticide down the holes. It is difficult to get 4 gallons per 10 feet in the holes, so it is important that you use a long drill bit, at least 18" long so you can bore out enough dirt to hold the termiticide. Sometimes the ground is slow to soak up the termiticide you place in the holes.  You may need to fill the holes, then go work on something else for an hour, come back and fill them again, go work on something else.....3 to 4 times to get the proper amount down the holes. Once the holes are filled all you need to do is patch them with a concrete patch filler you can buy at Home Depot or you can use our Trebor plugs that will close the hole with no concrete mess."

We apologize, we need a little bit more information to better answer your question. What are you treating for? There really would be no need to apply Termidor over Taurus as they both work the same way. 

Termidor SC is only labeled to be used outside as a termite prevention in a trench.  Inside it would only be used to treat active infestations by drilling directly into the wood they are infesting and spraying into the gallery.

Both Termidor and Taurus would be applied at .8 oz per gallon of water.  The 6 inch deep trench is deep enough and there is generally no need to go lower than that.  Decreasing the footage the 4 gallons covers does not make the product penetrate deeper as it is going to bind to the soil it is applied to.  It is ok to use the product a day after rain but you want to make sure the soil is not too saturated with water from the rain.

While we cannot comment on the work or word of a professional, one benefit of having a company treat your home is they do provide a warranty.  What that warranty is would need to be asked of the company and any contract they may have had with you.  While Termidor SC can last in the soil for 10 years or more, it does not guarantee you won't have termites for 10 years.  The 10 year applies to the areas that you apply Termidor, it is guaranteed to stay where you put it and protect and last for 10 years. However, no termite treatment can 100% guarantee that you won't have termites because termites can enter your home in places that you cannot treat, like underneath a slab, through a plumbing pipe, or through an area you cannot get the treatment to because it is covered or inaccessible. If any of the soil was disturbed, a retreatment may need to be done.  After your home is built, it is impossible to get to every entry point.  There are always areas you cannot get to which is why you should continue to have a professional company come out every couple of years to do a professional inspection to make sure you have no areas of activity. 

It is highly unlikely the Termidor killed the rhododendrons. Now, if they were young, the injection or disruption of the soil may have caused distress on the plant. 

Spraying just on the surface of the ground with Termidor SC will not offer any protection from termites in the crawl space.  We would recommend doing the crawl space with Termidor by trenching the inside perimeter and around all of the piers, and treat just as you would around the outside.  We have a great video with instructions here on how to do so.

It is very possible that there may have been a colony there at one time, or that it has moved somewhere else in the structure. You want to contact an exterminating company in your area to do an inspection. Normally, no charge. They will be able to tell you if you have termites and what species. Once we know, we can make an effective treatment plan.

For best  Termidor SC application, you want to wait until the ground has thawed. Possibly waiting until  temps reach above 55 degrees. 

Termidor SC and Dominion 2L are both labeled for subterranean termites and will effectively kill them. The main difference between the two is the active ingredient and the amount of time it stays in the soil. Termidor SC will last about 10 years in the soil, while Dominion 2L will last about 5 years.

We would really like to know what type ants you are needing to treat? We recommend you use a product called Termidor SC around the exterior of your home. Termidor is the # 1 choice for ant control around the home. Termidor is a non-repellent insecticide that works with a delayed reaction amd also has a transfer effect. That means that ants cannot tell that the Termidor is there and will walk right over it and then pick the product up on their bodies and inadvertently carry it back to the colony, then through normal social interaction the ants spread the Termidor and wipe out the colony. Termidor only needs to be applied two times per year and is effective for a wide variety of insects including ants, centipedes, roaches, spiders, silverfish, wasps and many other nuisance insects. You will need to apply Termidor SC 1-2 ft up the foundation and 1-2 ft out onto the ground, around door frames, window frames, places where cables, pipes or wires go through the wall and any other crack or crevice where the ants can gain entry into your home.

When it comes to termites, you should never wait as there is never a best time.  Especially if you are worried about activity.  Having said that the dryer the soil the better for Termidor SC when you are using it as a prevention in a trench around the perimeter of the home.  Termidor SC is made to bond to the soil, and the less moisture in the ground, the easier it is for it to take hold and provide long lasting protection.  The only temperature that effects Termidor SC is when it is below freezing.  We recommend reading our 'How to Perform A Termite Treatment'article. We apologize but we have never heard of Termidor bubbling concrete or any other surface or causing any sort of discoloration. We would suggest contacting the manufacturer of Termidor directly at 800-669-2273 or the company who installed your colored concrete to find out what kind of chemicals it may have to cause a reaction with other items. 

Do you know the exact species? There are no known resistance species of ant to Termidor so it would work to kill any ant colony. However, Termidor can not be used in any indoor space unless you are doing a direct spot treatment in a regularly unaccessible area on the whole colony. If you see an area they are trailing you could try either Termidor Foam to use in the galleries you think they are hiding in as this form of termidor has a broader label in where it can be used; or you can try the Complete Ant Kit and use a bait that they would take back to feed to the colony. You will want to check around your home for where the ants could have come in to either seal off these areas or cut back any bushes and trees that touch the home and use a general barrier spray regularly to keep them away in the future. Talstar would be a great easy to use and safe option for a barrier spray.

Termidor SC is really designed to be used outdoors. Boracare would be best. The interior wood pieces that are exposed will have to be stripped prior to the application if they are painted or stained. The manufacturer has told us that Boracare is not corrosive and it should not harm the interior of the fiberglass that touches the wood.
