    Q
Can Termidor SC be used to kill ant beds?
SPECIFICALLY BEDS OUT IN THE YARD NOT AGAINST TH HOUSE?
    A
Yes, Termidor will treat ant beds. You can use Termidor as a spot treatment to those beds and where the ants are trailing. Termidor kills by transfer, so when the foraging ants come out and come in contact with the Termidor, they will transfer the active ingredient throughout the ant colony.

    Q
I want to make my own wood bait. What mixture would I use Termidor SC and water? Dry wood first or use wet?
I want to soak 30 pieces of pine wood 1/2" X 1 1/2" X 6" in Termidor SC and then place them in the ground around my house. Assuming I will use a 5 gallon bucket, what is the highest Termidor SC and water mixture concentration I can use so that the wood is soaked thoroughly with termiticide and still remain a nonrepellant and undetectable to termites? Is it best to place the wood outside and air dry the pieces after soaking or simply place them into the ground immediately after the soaking treatment?
    A
Termidor SC is not labeled to be used in the manner that you have described and we do not recommend you use it in this manner. Instead we recommend that you read our article How to do a liquid termite barrier treatment so you can understand how the product should be used so that is effective for termite control. If you still want to try to use it to make your own baits you should contact the manufacturer BASF for more information. You can reach BASF by calling 800-526-1072.

    05/15/2013
    Q
Can the Termidor mixture be poured on the ground instead of using the 6" trench method?
    A
You want to pour the Termidor mixed solution into the 6inx6in trench to allow it to bind soil and  provide treatment for up 10 years. If you pour it on top it will be unable to bind with the soil and treat the termites in the part of the soil they roam. Please let us know if  you have any other questions.

    Q
We want to treat non-treated wooden posts for termites, what is best when trenching is not a good option?
we have a containment wall with 12x12 posts that are nontreated wood, the termites have set up home and have destroyed 5-6 posts..we would like to treat the remaining posts and are looking for the best product and method...the posts/wall is back filled on one side and a packed crushed limestone driveway on the other so trenching is not a good option
    A
Yes, you can use Termidor to if you can drill to the site of the termites to ensure the termites will come in contact with the termiticide. A second option would be to use a wood treatment like Boracare. Boracare can be painted, sprayed, or foamed and will penetrate up to 4 inches into the wood. Please refer to the product label as to what  application and mixing ratios.

    Q
Pros are pumping Termidor solution into ground around home with 1/2 steel hollow rod hose?
hose connected to 100 gallon pressured tank in truck. 1/2 steel rod is tee shaped and placed every foot or so in lieu of digging the 6 by 6 inch trengh around the foundation. I own 7 rental homes plus my home and farm. do you sell this independent tank and set up package or can you refer me to purchase it wholesale? Thanks
    A
Although we can not say the company is treating your properties incorrectly, we do know that the method you mentioned is against the usage label from the manufacturer. BASF is the company who created Termidor and has VERY specific guidelines set by the company and by the EPA as to how to properly use the product to get the results intended from it. There are places all over the BASF Termidor product label, which clearly state that rodding alone is not sufficient, no matter what applicator tool used, to treat a home for termites. You can either do a 6x6 trench around the foundation, or a 6x6 trench with rodding used additionally every 12 inches through the trench at a depth not to exceed the footing of the home. We do not carry the device you are requesting, nor do we have any knowledge of a company who sells that type of apparatus. If you choose to do the treatment yourself you will need to follow the label exactly by how it should be used in a treatment to be accurately protecting your structure. By using the product inconsistent with what the label permits, you are not only potentially not protecting your home completely by leaving gaps between the holes where the termites can still get through, but also breaking federal law. If you have any questions about the treatment methods used call BASF at 1-800-777-8570. You can also refer to our How To Do A Termite Treatment article for treating your home yourself.

    Q
Does Termidor foam work against roaches also?
    A
Termidor Foam is not labeled to treat roaches. We recommend using our Roach control kit to treat roaches. Roach Control Kit #2 includes 1 packet of Demon WP Insecticide (which makes 4 gallons of finished solution) for spraying the outside perimeter of the home and inside underneath appliances, behind cabinets, under toilets and sinks, etc. You'll also get 4 x 30 gram tubes of Advion Roach Bait Gel--one of the best roach baits on the market. Advion can be applied up high in the kitchen in the corner of cabinets and in cracks and crevices in kitchens and bathrooms. The bait contains a slow-acting poison that attracts and kills feeding roaches, who also spread the bait to other roaches by contact or by sharing food. Finally, 20 Gentrol Point Source stations provide an IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) that will stop roaches from laying eggs, helping to halt the infestation. Please find our article on roach treatment tips and prevention.

    Q
I am doing a subterranean termite treatment - can I use Termidor HE and Termidor SC?
After finding a huge sub. Termite infestation in my crawl space, can I use Termidor HE in the areas that access is extremely difficult and the Termidor SC in the areas that have much easier access? Also, should I spray the bottoms of my sub-floors or any exposed wood with the borax (? name) wood treatment then after both treatments (Termidor, bare wood treatment) should I spread the termite granules across the entire crawl space to or is this a over kill!!?? I am doing the trenching and drilling around the Perimeter according to the Termidor (HE, SC) specs. call for!! Thanks for your help!!! Deno
    A
We do not carry the Termidor HE so we are not familiar with how it compares to the Termidor SC and whether you can use the two products together. Trenching and drilling around the perimeter of the foundation, trenching and drilling any piers under the crawlspace, and spot treating in wall voids with Termidor SC is our best recommendation. If you would like to give extra protection to the exposed sub floors you could do a life long protection on those areas with the Boracare. The Boracare would be mixed at a 1:1 ratio for any active infestations, and a 5:1 ratio for preventative only. Mix it with hot water and spray or paint it onto any raw wood surface for protection for the life of the wood. Please let us know if you have any further questions! You can also review our article on How To Do A Termite Treatment.

  • Asked by C from Howell, Nj

    Q
Can you clarify perimeter use v. property use?
We have an in ground pool in our backyard that has a partial mahogany deck about 4” from the ground. The deck butts up to large field stones set in the soil surrounding the rest of the perimeter of the pool. Mulch paths and beds of ornamentals landscape the pool going outward from the deck and stones. All types and sizes of ants live under the rocks and deck and are quite a nuisance when we sit on the side of the pool. I see that use of Termidor SC is limited to foundations but I'm wondering if spraying it under and around the perimeter of the rocks and deck would be appropriate, or somehow dangerous. Also, we had several 80' trees taken down about 8 years ago. The tree service left us a large piece of one of the trees for projects that we never got to and now the wood is disintegrated; it looks like carpenter ants. Would spraying Termidor SC on and around the wood be helpful in killing the nest? The area is about 60' from our house and removal isn't an option. We can't put out any type of bait since our Rottweiler will dig up and eat anything that even remotely smells like food. Don't know what else to do. Thanks for your input.
    A
Termidor is very limited on the areas it can be used. You are allowed for general insect control to spray only directly against a structure on your property 1-2 feet up and out. You do have the ability to drill holes directly into the dead trunk and inject termidor into the carpenter ant galleries to take care of that infestation. You will need to make sure you keep pets and children away from the treated areas until it has time to dry. If you are looking for a product that you can use more freely around your home for ant control as well as other insects, we would recommend Talstar P. It works extremely well, dries clear, is non-staining and non-irritating, and you have a much wider usage area. Talstar can be sprayed around the foundation of the home, along walkways and driveways, on ornamentals/trees/lawns for insect control as well as indoors around baseboards and crevices. It can also be used in the same method as termidor on the carpenter ant colony in the dead tree. For more information on usage rates and areas you can refer to the product label.

    Q
I have hear that Termidor warranties their product against termite damage, is this true?
If Termidor does warranty their product against termite damage, does it only apply if installed by a professional?
    A
This would normally only apply if a professional has treated your home, as the manufacturer can not be liable for any damage when they are not there to make sure you do the treatment properly. If you would like further information you can always contact the manufacturer BASF at 1-800-526-1072.

    Q
an I just spray Termidor on the grass or do I need to somehow get it under the grass surface to the soil?
For control of ants I see it's recommended to treat the ground 1-2 feet from the house. My question is, c
    A
For ant treatment you can simply spray the areas the ants are trailing, around, and on the mound as spot treatments. You can also make a topical application around your home. There is no need to apply into the soil as you are not treating for termites.

  • Asked by Lori from Overland Park, Ks

    Q
We have a screened-in porch on the back of our house. Is it necessary to drill through the wooden beam that is next to the concrete of the back of our house or would the perimeter of the porch be as effective?
(about 10 feet out) We've been told both.
    A

Both would need to be done.  You should perform a trench and treat around the perimeter of the screened porch, but you also need to be concerned about the seam where the porch is attached to the house….where the beam is that you described.  Any time you have an “add on” to the house, in this case the screen porch, it is possible for termites to enter between the porch and the house.  Therefore, you should drill along that seam and treat with a termiticide along the house foundation as well as around the perimeter.

    Q
Can I use a drill to inject Termidor SC into exposed wood indoor?
My indoor stairs is all wood and we have drywood termites in it. I see the kick out hole and want to drill to inject Termidor there and make other small holes to apply it. Is it safe? I have a dog.
    A
Typically you just drill the hole into the infested piece of wood and inject the product however you can.  You should drill into the exact center of the wood.  We do sell a foam product already in a can for termites that is very popular and will save you the time and money of having to buy a foamer and foaming agent.  It is called Termidor Foam and comes ready to go with an applicator tip.  The key to drywood termite control is to get the product exactly where the termites are.   You may also want to look into Boracare it can be painted, sprayed, or foamed onto raw untreated wood. It is a great product for wood boring insects because it will penetrate up to 4 in and will last the lifetime of the wood. If you have any further questions you are welcome to call us at 866-581-7378 to speak further.

    Q
Is spraying the exterior wall from the crawl space an effective method of application?
I have subterranean termites noticed when they began to build mud tunnels inside my house at grout indentations on the floor. I have a brick patio abutting the house which may be the source of termites. I don't want to disturb the bricks and flower gardens so I thought I can spray Bora Care from the crawl space. Is this an effective way to apply Boracare and eliminate these termites? Or, do I need to spray/trench from the outside? How long will it take to notice any results?
    A

To treat subterranean termites we always recommend to trench where you can and also treat the crawlspace. Termidor SC can be used in crawlspaces. There are complete instructions on the Termidor SC product label (page 5) on how to use the product in the crawlspace, so if a bit inadvertently goes into the crawlspace it should not pose a problem.

    Q
does Termidor SC work for drywood termites?
how it will cure for termite into the walls
    A
Termidor SC will treat drywood termites. If you are treating stud walls, you want to make sure you are drilling into the stud to exactly where the termites are. When using Termidor the termites have to come directly in contact with the active ingredient. Instead of Termidor you may want to use Boracare. Boracare will penetrate up to 4in into the wood so you would most likely not have to drill into the wood.

Chlordane was banned many years ago and there are no forms of it left for home or professional use in the US. If you are looking for a termite product that would last a long time, Termidor SC is the product of choice. When applied properly you can expect the product to last for up to 10 years in the soil. Q
We are building a new house and want to do our own pest control, what is the best product to use?
We would like to do our own pest control for new construction and want to prep the ground before hand and then control pests ongoing while the construction is going on. We are searching for the best pest control product to do this.
    A
If you want to pre-treat before the slab is pured to control termites, Termidor SC would be the product of choice. Pre-slab and barrier treatments can last for up to 10 years for subterranean termite control.  For general pest control around the inside of and the outside of the house can be done with Talstar P. It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests.
