    Q
What can I use to treat an active termite infestation inside my home? Why can Termidor SC not be used inside?
    A

Termidor SC can be used for small spot treatments indoors if you know exactly where the termite infestation is and can treat it directly. If you are unsure of where the infestation is and would like to treat indoors, Phantom Termiticide would be a good option.

    Q
What's the best way to apply Termidor SC in drilled holes in concrete?
my driveway is attached to my house and connected to my stoop, which if I look in my basement is where I've seen mud trails; right underneath my stoop in the double 2x4 sill plate. Ok going to apply termidor sc with a trench on the other areas but my question is after I drill the holes in the slab which I hear is every foot, how do I apply the product? Do I just pour it in? And how much? And also how deep does the drill have to go into the ground?
    A

Termidor SC can be applied in drilled holes every 10-12 inches by using a funnel or a sprayer set on a pin stream setting.  The hole needs to drilled deep enough to apply 1/2 gallon of finished solution to each hole.

    Q
Is termidor sc a chitin inhibitor or a Cholinesterase inhibitor?
    A

The active ingredient in Termidor SC, Fipronil, works by disrupting the insects central nervous system by blocking GABA-gated chloride and glutamate-gated chloride (GluCl) channels. This causes hyperexcitation of nerves and muscles in insects.

  • Asked by Jessica from Garden City Missouri

    Q
My fruit tree trunks were sprayed with Termidor SC before I knew they were spraying.
I don't know if the company was aware the trees they sprayed were my apple trees. They treated a couple barns and decks with Termidor SC, then as they were leaving they were spraying our tree trunks up to about 4 feet on the trunk which we hadn't discussed them doing. I was shocked! They've been a good company for us before, but now I'm really upset because I don't want to get poisoned eating our apples. They said it's safer than agricultural spray and the fruit should be edible in at least a month. What do we do?
    A

Termidor is not labeled for use in or around edibles. Any edibles sprayed with Termidor should be discarded.  Please contact the manufacturer BASF for further instruction 800-526-1072.

    Q
What should I do if I mixed too much Termidor?
    A

Since Termidor SC is a non repellent, overmixing could negatively effect the treatment. We recommend to either add more water or start over using the recommended rate of 0.8 oz per gallon of water.

    Q
How much Termidor SC should be applied around piers?
    A

Everywhere you dig, you will follow the method of digging a 6x6 trench and use 4 gallons finished Termidor SC solution to every 10 linear feet, so it depends on the dimensions around the piers.

  • Asked by Cynthia from Wa
    10/24/2018
    Q
Can I just use Termidor SC to do a perimeter spray without trenching or rodding?
My pest control company was doing perimeter spray with fipronil every 3 months with out trenching and rodding. The purpose is to prevent carpenter ants. I have read the package inserts for Taurus SC and Termidor SC. I don't see any information about this mode of application.
    A

Termidor SC is used for both termite prevention as well as ant control.  The termite prevention requires the trenching and rodding, and is done once every 10 years.  When using it for ant control, you would spray 1 foot up the side of the structure and 1 foot out into the soil, all the way around the perimeter of the structure, along with around doors and windows.  This can be done according the following label instructions:

    • DO NOT exceed the specified number of applications per calendar year.  More than two applications of Taurus SC per calendar year can be made only if applied according to one of the following frequency and dilution rate application scenarios. The use directions include up to four (4) applications per year at the 0.03% dilution rate for outside surfaces and along the foundation perimeter of listed structures.
      • 0.03% 4 times/calendar year OR
      • 0.06% 2 times/calendar year OR
      • 0.03% 2 times/calendar year and 0.06% 1 time/calendar year
    • These directions do NOT apply to CALIFORNIA. California may only do 2 applications a year.

    Q
Is Termidor effective in freezing temperatures and rain?
    A

Termidor SC should not be applied if the ground is below freezing, or it will not take hold. Also, as long as Termidor SC has time to dry and bind with the soil, the rain will not affect it. It is best to wait until you have a few days of no rain in the forecast so there is at least 24 - 36 hours time after you treat before it rains.  After that it will hold quite well to rain and weather.

    Q
Is Termidor SC safe for vinyl siding?
I have a huge spider problem (mostly cobwebs left over from their nighttime meals) that attracts bugs and becomes an unsightly mess around my porch ceiling. I have some Termidor left from foundation treatment during construction of my house and want to know if it will damage my vinyl siding if sprayed.
    A
Termidor SC should not stain surfaces that water itself wouldn't stain. If the siding is very old, you should test in an inconspicuous area to be sure no staining will occur.

    Q
Is it ok to spray Termidor SC within 24 hours of expected rain?
An exterminator wants to apply Termidor however its supposed to rain a few hours later...He says that as long as its dry for two hours..It should not compromise the effectiveness. Under the Q/A section it was suggested to spray when rain is not expected within 24 hours?
    A
We are not the manufacturer, but it is our suggestion to not apply if it is going to rain within 24 hours.  The product does need some time to bond to the soil.  We might suggest insisting that he treat on another day when there is no rain in the forecast.

    Q
Should I treat all the termite activity around my yard with Termidor SC?
I had my house treated a year ago using Termidor SC, so I feel that my house is safe. However, I use a wood mulch to mix with my soil in the yard and my potted plants. Termites are quick to infest these areas. It's scary because of the close location to the house. Should I treat all of the termite activity around the yard?
    A
If you treated your home a year ago with Termidor SC, then you should have no worries.  Termidor SC is the best there is for a reason. There will always be termites in your yard and there is not really much you can do about it.  Most companies, and I concur, that what you should really worry about is your biggest investment, your house. Let the termites eat on the mulch. If they get close to the house the Termidor SC will do the job.

    Q
Is it necessary for a professional to trench 6X6 for Termidor SC protection or can he use his pressure sprayer?
For protection purposes, a professional "ditched" about 2 to 3 inches around the foundation and applied Termidor SC. There is no evidence that the solution penetrated anywhere close to 6 inches deep or 6 inches wide. Would you consider this adequate protection?
    A
We cannot comment on any work your pest control operator has done. We can tell you that the Termidor SC product label does recommend trenching 6 inches deep and 6 inches across. Please take a few minutes to read through the label. If you are still unsure you can contact BASF, the Termidor SC manufacturer at 1-877-TERMIDOR.

  • Asked by Sandy
    08/16/2010
    Q
I would like to know the effectiveness of Termidor SC treatment of fleas and ticks.
Since the Frontline packaging says that it contains 9.8% or so of fipronil in measured dosages per pound that are directly applied to a dog. Is the .06% mixed concentration strong enough to kill them on the ground or on gravel?
    A
Termidor SC is labeled for ticks but is not labeled for fleas. Fleas tend to live in moist shady areas out in the yard where pets or other animals spend a lot of time resting. Termidor SC however is only labeled to be used in very limited areas on or immediately next to the house or structure making it mostly ineffective for flea treatments. Termidor SC will however work well for ticks since they tend to climb walls on houses and structures where the Termidor SC can be sprayed.

    Q
    What is a linear foot?
    A
The term linear foot refers to the number of feet in a straight line, generally without regard to the width. If you need to measure for a termite treatment, you will measure straight across the front, each side and back of your home. Add up each measurement and you will have the total linear feet.
