    Q
Just had a treatment of Termidor and my veggie garden was "injected" too because of proximity. Can I re-plant?
The soil from the garden is against the house. We removed the plants for the treatment. Can they be replanted in the same spot?
    A
No. You will be disrupting the barrier allowing termites to gain access to your home if you displace/disturb the soil to plant the garden. You will also be contaminating the vegetable plants as well by using the treated soil.

    Q
Is Termidor affected by herbicides/weed killers that I would use in the flower bed next to my house?
I need to kill the weeds in my flower beds but I'm afraid to apply any killer in liquid or granule form because I don't know if it will negatively affect my Termidor treatment I had done a year ago.
    A
We don't think the herbicides will be a problem with the Termidor. The problem will be if plants are growing through that barrier treatment and disturbing the barrier that was put into place.

    Q
I have hear that Termidor warranties their product against termite damage, is this true?
If Termidor does warranty their product against termite damage, does it only apply if installed by a professional?
    A
This would normally only apply if a professional has treated your home, as the manufacturer can not be liable for any damage when they are not there to make sure you do the treatment properly. If you would like further information you can always contact the manufacturer BASF at 1-800-526-1072.

    Q
I want to make my own wood bait. What mixture would I use Termidor SC and water? Dry wood first or use wet?
I want to soak 30 pieces of pine wood 1/2" X 1 1/2" X 6" in Termidor SC and then place them in the ground around my house. Assuming I will use a 5 gallon bucket, what is the highest Termidor SC and water mixture concentration I can use so that the wood is soaked thoroughly with termiticide and still remain a nonrepellant and undetectable to termites? Is it best to place the wood outside and air dry the pieces after soaking or simply place them into the ground immediately after the soaking treatment?
    A
Termidor SC is not labeled to be used in the manner that you have described and we do not recommend you use it in this manner. Instead we recommend that you read our article How to do a liquid termite barrier treatment so you can understand how the product should be used so that is effective for termite control. If you still want to try to use it to make your own baits you should contact the manufacturer BASF for more information. You can reach BASF by calling 800-526-1072.

    Q
A "professional" sprayed Termidor all over my yard and all around my son's play area and swing set.
After reading these q&a's I am very concerned! He did it for ants and ticks. What do I do now to insure my 4 yr old, dog and unborn child are safe while we are outside.
    A
As you stated the product label specifically states to not spray Termidor on play sets. As a general rule, once the product has dried it is safe for children and pets to be around. If you are concerned about any possible problems, please contact BASF at 1-800-777-8570

How does the home owner protect his home from termites?
    A
Please check out our article Barrier and Soil Treatments. This article gives you a step by step guide to treating and preventing termites. Termidor works so well, because whenn it is applyed in the ground, it actually binds with the soil, providing protection for us up to 10 years.

  • Asked by Steve from Paris, Il
    06/04/2013
    Q
I have an attached deck and cannot get under it to trench along the foundation. How should I handle this?
    A
The best treatment option for this area is to just pull the boards closest to the house up and trench the dirt and then nail the boards back down. If you are unable to pull the boards up you have two other possible options. You would need to treat this as a concrete area that you will need to drill through just like a garage or driveway that might be in the way of trenching. You can try trenching all the way around the deck but you are still left with the possibility of the termites being able to come up the foundation in the untreated area under the deck. Please see the instructions for drilling holes in concrete in our How To Do A Termite Treatment guide for tips on this application.

    Q
Do I need to have Termidor applied inside the house with perimeter treatment ?
Right now I do not have termites, it's all preventive. By inside the house I mean foam around pipes, under the sink, etc.
    A
Termidor is only labeled to be used inside for spot treatments. You can use Termidor as a preventative outdoors and a generally residual insecticide like talstar for indoor perimeter treatment for all different types of insects.

  • Asked by Michelle from Seattle, Wa

    Q
Will Termidor treat moisture ants? How long will it take to get rid of all the ants including the colony?
We found moisture ants in attic above the garage. I am not sure if there are any more ants behind the dry wall. If I spray the area I could see, will the ants be killed eventually? How long will it take if that's the case? Thanks.
    A
We do not know what species of ant you are referring to as there is no ant called a "moisture" ant and ALL ants are attracted to moisture and must have it to survive. Do you know the exact species? There are no known resistance species of ant to Termidor so it would work to kill any ant colony. However, Termidor can not be used in any indoor space unless you are doing a direct spot treatment in a regularly unaccessible area on the whole colony. If you see an area they are trailing you could try either Termidor Foam to use in the galleries you think they are hiding in as this form of termidor has a broader label in where it can be used; or you can try the Complete Ant Kit and use a bait that they would take back to feed to the colony. You will want to check around your home for where the ants could have come in to either seal off these areas or cut back any bushes and trees that touch the home and use a general barrier spray regularly to keep them away in the future. Talstar would be a great easy to use and safe option for a barrier spray.

    Q
I have an all brick home and no active termites. do you recommend doing trenching & drilling?
Used a pest control co. for last 7 years with monitoring stations and yearly inside inspection. I want to do my own pest contol and uncertain if I need to dig & drill?
    A
If you are able to continue using the stations in the yard they used you can certainly continue to monitor these for activity. If they used the same type we carry on our site, then we can provide you with the necessary replacement parts as needed and guide you on how to check and treat the stations. If you do not have this ability, the best way to protect your home is to do the trench treatment around the foundation of the home and drill where you need to where any concrete touches the home(ie:driveway, garage, patio, etc.). By using Termidor you are protecting your home from any future infestations for the next 10 years. Please review our article on How To Do A Termite Treatment to see what would be involved in a home owner treatment, and feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.
