    Q
Is it safe to use Termidor SC on an area where my chickens scratch and eat bugs? I don't want to poison them.
This is for an active termite treatment, for trench treating around the house. I may use a different brand because we can't get termidor here.
    A
The chickens will need to be kept of the area during the application and for about 6-8 hours until the surface is completely dry. Once dried there should not be any issues for the chickens.

    Q
Should we evacuate the house when we use Termidor SC foam in the interior walls?
I recently found some dry wood termite droppings in the house. I want to use Termidor SC foam but my wife is three months pregnant. Should we evacuate the premise during/after the application? Also, could Termidor SC be used for indoor spot treatment?
    A
Termidor SC can be used by itself inside wall voids as a spot treatment for termites, or you can foam Termidor SC to be used inside wall voids.  It can be used inside as a spot treatment only inside wall voids.  Termidor SC, when used as directed, is safe to use with people inside the home and you do not have to evacuate anyone from the premises.  It should be perfectly safe for your pregnant wife since you will be treating inside a wall void.

    Q
Coverage Rate for Ant Control with Termidor?
For termite control the information mentions that one bottle will provide about 60 linear feet of coverage. But it does not say how much coverage will be provided for doing perimeter spraying for Ant Control. If Ant control also takes 4 bottles for average sized houses, this product will actually come out more expensive than professional services.
    A
Termite treatment is completely different than ant control.  Since termites enter the house from underground, Termidor has to be applied into the ground by digging trenches and applying at the rate of 4 gallons per 10 feet.  It is a lot of work and this is why termite companies charge over $1000 or more to treat a house.  When treating for ants, you only have to spray around the perimeter of the house like any other pest control spray using a hand pump sprayer.  One bottle of Termidor will make 25 gallons.  You usually only need 1 or 2 gallons to treat the outside perimeter of your home every 3 to 4 months.  So 1 bottle of Termidor will easily last you  for 2 years worth of treating....much less than a professional service for 2 years.  You mix .8 ounces per gallon of water (there is a convenient measuring device built into the bottle for easy measuring) and spray around the foundation of your home 1 foot up onto the foundation and 1 foot out onto the ground.  One application typically lasts for 3 to 4 months.  Simple as that.

    Q
How much termidor sc do I have to buy for a 1800sq.ft. house?
want to trench my house for termites
    A
How much Termidor you need is dependant on the lineal feet around the house, not the square footage.  Each 20 oz. bottle of Termidor will treat 60 lineal feet.  So every 60 feet around your home you will need one bottle of Termidor.  Most homes need 3 to 4 bottles.  Please follow the instructions in our how To Do A Termite Treatment article.

i found millions of Flying insects around Oak tree 20 ft away from my block build house.
    A
In most cases, termites out in the yard are completely normal and can be left alone. If you do not have an up-to-date termite barrier around your home you can apply a product such as Termidor SC to prevent any termites from moving. Here is our article which explains step by step what is needed to put a termite barrier around your home: How to do a termite treatment

  • Asked by Steve from Saint Charles

    Q
Should I reapply any Termidor SC after placing new mulch along the front of the house.
We had Termidor SC applied around the entire foundation of our house about 2 1/2 years ago just after we had the landscaping around the house redone. The previous owners had problems with termites and we took this opportunity to convert from a bait system they used to a barrier method. We decided to have new mulch placed this year in the front of the house along the foundation. Should I add any Termidor to those areas along the foundation? If so, should I retrench or just add a superficial coating with no digging?
    A
As long as the Termidor was applied in a trench around the foundation, and the barrier was not broken when mulch was applied, you should not have to reapply Termidor. However, Termidor is a great treatment for ants, roaches, etc on the surface. You can spray it 1 foot up and out around the foundation every 6 months. Termidor in the ground for termites will last up to 10 years.

  • Asked by Humphrey from Oakland, Ca

    Q
Rainy season is coming, should we treat asap or wait till dry season. Will rain wash away or dilute Termidor?
Since Termidor claims to be effective for 10 years, will future rain affect the effectiveness of the chemical?
    A

According to BASF the only times you cannot treat is if precipitation is currently happening or if the soil is over-saturated with water, frozen, or in conditions where runoff or soil movement from the area or treatment site will occur.  It would be great to not have rain after your termite treatment, but certainly not something that is “needed (or a must)” for the product to be efficacious or provide long-term residual activity/structural protection.

    Q
During what hat season is it optimal to use Termidor?
I live in NJ and this year I had both termite and ant swarms in my house for the first time. I want to use termidor to create a barrier around the house (trench method). It is currently start of fall (October) --should I wait until next Spring or can I apply Termidor now since it essentially creates a soil barrier for 10years. Thanks.
    A

You can apply Termidor SC as long as the ground is not frozen and make sure that it does not rain for 24 hours minimum after you do your treatment.

    Q
Will Termidor SC kill ticks as well as ants? What do you recommend for ticks?
I just purchased Termidor SC for ants.
    A
Termidor SC is labeled for use on ticks but it does have a very limited area that it can be used. You can use Termidor SC outdoors only, immediately adjacent or directly on your home. You cannot use Termidor SC indoors or out in the yard for tick control. If you find that you do need to treat in areas that Termidor SC cannot be applied you can use Talstar P. Talstar P can be used indoors and outdoors and out in the yard for tick control.

    Q
What is the difference in Termidor SC and Bora-Care?
    A
Termidor SC is a product that is meant to be used as a soil treatment for the prevention of termites and will last for 10 years or more in this type of application. Termidor SC can also be used as a spot treatment to eliminate existing termites and will last for up to 6 weeks for this use. Bora-Care is applied to wood to eliminate and prevent termites from infesting that piece of wood for the life of the wood.

    Q
    Termidor SC and outside animals
We live south of Houston and are having terrible issues with the Rasberry Crazy Ant. There was a document released from Texas A&M that stated the EPA has approved the use of Fipronil for these ants. I was wondering (and cannot seem to find it anywhere so far) what precautions do we have to take for pets in areas that will be sprayed? We would be spraying around the outside of our mobile home as well as areas underneath the skirting and on a ground cover of artificial turf that our motorcycles sit on. We just spent over $250 to repair wiring in one of the bikes due to ant damage. If I can prevent them from getting to the bikes and into the house, I am happy! Thank you!
    A
Yes, Termidor SC is a terrific product. You want to make sure the treated area is completely dry before allowing your pets back into the treated area.

  • Asked by Todd from Decatur, Ga
    10/28/2013
    Q
Why do you say the trench only has to be 6"x6" when using Termidor as a barrier?
The product label states that termidor needs to be applied to a minimum depth of 4 feet? Confused?
    A
The only time that Termidor needs to be applied to a minimum depth of 4 ft is if the footer is more than 4 feet below grade. If you read further into the label you will see that a trench does not need to be wider that 6 inches and usually no deeper than 6 inches to acheive the needed barrier.

    Q
Just fixed leak in bathroom wall. Can I spray Termidor?
on wood tub supports and exposed studs.
    A
You can drill and inject Termidor into the galleries in the studs. You could also infect Termidor Foam if that would be easier. Please be aware the Termidor can only be used as a spot treatment indoors and that the treated area would be covered after application.

    Q
Can Termidor SC be mixed with Demon WP?
    A
You cannot mix Termidor SC with Demon WP nor would you want to. Termidor SC is a non-repellent product that works with a delayed reaction time and a transfer effect. Termidor SC also has a very limited label that only allows you to use it on or immediately adjacent to a structure. Demon WP on the other hand is a broadly labeled synthetic pyrethroid that will kill the insects that walk over treated surfaces. If you mix the two together you will be losing the non-repellent factor and transfer effect of the Termidor SC and you will be severely limiting the places you can spray the Demon WP. Termidor SC is not labeled to be tank mixed with other products.

    Q
How does rain affect the use to Termidor SC when using it to get crazy ant
Wanting to spray the outer perimeter to my house and not sure if I should wait if rain is in the forecast
    A
You should not apply Termidor SC if it is going to rain the same day.  It is best to wait until you have a few days of no rain in the forecast so there is at least 24 - 36 hours time after you treat before it rains.  After that it will hold quite well to rain and weather.
