What is the best way to treat for mice in the wall voids and between the 1st and 2nd floor?

Have not been able to locate where they are entering but think it is the wall adjoining the garage. Currently using snap traps and poison blox in the garage. I have not seen any dead mice from the poison or from the wood traps.

Answer:

Treating for rodents can take time and it is very common that you will not always see the dead rodents as they become immobile once the poison hits their central nervous system. Depending on the rodenticide you are using, this can take hours up to weeks. We would suggest using the rodent bait in tamper-resistant bait stations outside the perimeter of the garage and home. Rodents will leave the house to search for a water source and travel along the exterior wall of the home where they will come into contact with the bait station. Be sure you are wearing gloves while handling the rodent bait blox and are checking the bait stations every 14 days. Replenish any eaten bait blox with fresh bait and bait that has not been eaten in 30 days or longer.  Rodents are very smart and afraid of new objects in their runway or that may pose a danger. They travel by sense of touch and smell, so it is very common for the traps to be unsuccessful at first. Take a moment to review our How to use Snap Traps article and How to Set Snap Trap Video for more information.  Fastrac Blox in Protecta Mouse Bait Stations are a good choice for clean out bait and to secure the bait. Bait Stations keep kids, pets and allow you to monitor the bait consumption. Fastrac Blox will provide a lethal dose after a single feeding resulting in death within 24-48 hours after they have consumed the bait. Use 1 bait block per placement (at intervals of 8 to 12 feet) Larger placements, up to 4 blocks, may be needed at points of extremely high mouse activity. Once the pail is open, it is good for 1 year and should be stored in a cool dry place. Unopened pails have a shelf life of 2-3 years. Replace bait as needed and make sure gloves are worn when handling the bait blox. Please read our article on the most common reasons for Rodent Bait Failure to better help and watch our video on How to Use Rodent Bait Stations.  Mice can fit through a ¼ inch opening so thoroughly inspecting the exterior perimeter for signs of gnawing, gaps around plumbing, foundations, vents, under the roof line, under patios, etc will help locate the entry points so they can be sealed off. Inside you will look for droppings, gnaw marks on the legs of furniture, baseboards, cabinets, cardboard, traces of fabric used for nesting like cotton, string, insulation, etc. Once the entry points are identified and treatment has been done, you can work Mice Prevention and Rodent Proofing Your Home for Fall.
