    Q
When is the best time to apply the herbicide XL 2G? Also, should you water it in?
    A
Each area of the country has their own optimum times to apply Pre-Emergents like XL 2G granules.  We recommend calling your local county extension office as they usually know the optimum times for applying pre-emergent to your lawn in your area. All granules depend on water to release the active ingredient they are carrying, so you should always water in granules thoroughly, including XL 2G.

    Q
Is XL 2G Herbicide safe in my vegetable garden?
I was told that if I put some of the XL 2G Herbicide in my tomato/vegetable garden, it will stop the weeds ...I did, and now I'm upset that I could have hurt my garden... did I? If so...what should I do?
    A
Unfortunately you were given some bad advice.  XL 2G is not labeled for use on fruit bearing or nut bearing trees and gardens. How hurtful to the actual vegetables this may be we are unsure.  We would recommend calling the manufacturer for advice on if the vegetables can be saved.  The manufacturer is Setre Chemical Company and they can be reached at 901-761-0050.

  • Asked by Rose from Rockport Texas
    03/03/2014
    Q
I have sticker burrs on the ground. Plants are dormant. Will applying XL 2G granules kill the burrs?
    A
The XL 2G granules is a selective pre-emergent herbicide product that will not kill anything actively growing, it would be a great product to prevent them though.  Once the sticker burr weeds are up and thriving, the only way to kill it is to carefully spot treat with a glyphosate product such as Agrisel Gly Pho-Sel Pro. Agrisel Gly Pho-Sel Pro is a non-selective herbicide which means it will kill most types of vegetation including desirable turfgrasses, so care must be used when applying this product to the sticker burr.  Or you could also try a post emergent herbicide labeled for burrs, Celsius is a great one.

  • Asked by Greg from San Tan Valley, Az
    02/01/2018
    Q
What is the best weed control for a landscaped area in Arizona? Rocks and plants, no grass.
I'm getting grasses, and a variety of weeds
    A

XL 2G Herbicide would be great to use as a pre-emergent weed control product.  XL 2G does not control emerged weeds, established weeds, weeds growing from stolens, rhizomes, or root pieces.  For the emerged weeds, you could use any glyphosate product, like GlyPhoSel Pro, to kill any and all weeds and grasses that might come up through the rocks. You can spray it as often as needed to get the control you need on the weeds you want to kill.  Care should be taken to avoid spraying desirable plants as it will kill anything that it is applied to.

What setting do I use to distribute the XL 2G herbicide on a burmuda lawn, using a Scott's Turfbuilder speader
    A
Unfortunately, the XL 2G Granules product label does not provide spreader settings for the Scott's Turfbuilder. However, we would recommend contacting Scott's at (888) 270-3714 to find the proper setting to apply 2.3 - 3.4 lb of the XL 2G Granules per 1,000 square feet.

  • Asked by Chris from Ft. Walton Beach, Florida
    02/24/2014
    Q
It rained over 2 1/2 inches a day after applying XL 2G, will this reduce effectiveness?
I put down XL 2G at the recommended rate of 3.4 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. on Saturday. The next day we got about 2 1/2 inches of rain and more rain expected later this week. Will this much rain reduce the effectiveness of XL 2G? Should I still wait the 3 full months (per instructions) before applying the second application. This is the first time I have tried using a pre-emergent herbicide and am not familiar with the product. I hope it works.
    A
Per the product label, XL 2G Granules should be applied prior to a rainfall. A single rainfall of at least 1/2 inch or more is required.
