Adonis 2F Insecticide/Termiticide - Questions & Answers

Imidacloprid is the active ingredient you will need to systemically control whitefly on your palms. Adonis would be the product of choice for soil drench applications for whitefly infestations. It can take a few weeks for the Adonis to translocate through tall trees and you will most likely continue to see whiteflies in that time period. While you are waiting on the imidacloprid to translocate you should treat the foliage with a product such as Talstar P or with insectidical soap or insecticidal oil.

Most people use a 5 gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Adonis as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Adonis 2F per foot of shrub height or 0.1 to 0.2 fl oz per inch of trunk diameter for trees. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per foot of shrub height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per foot of height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) as well. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and translocated throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake. We also recommend using a product with an active ingredient that is different than the soil drench for a foliage application while you are waiting for the Adonis to translocate through the ficus. Talstar P is the most popular choice for foliage application on ficus for white fly.

You will need to use 0.46 to 0.6 fl. oz. (14 to 17 mL) of Adonis per 1000 sq. ft. You should use the higher concentration for faster knockdown and a longer lasting residual. For optimum control, make applications preceding or during the egg laying period of the target pest. The active ingredient in this product has enough residual activity so that applications can be made preceding the egg laying activity. Application timing can be based on historical monitoring of the site, previous records or experiences, current season adult trapping or other methods. Most favorable control will be achieved when applications are made prior to egg hatch of the target pests, followed by sufficient irrigation or rainfall to move the active ingredient through the thatch.

Adonis 2F Insecticide/Termiticide if stored in a cool dry area, has a shelf life to 3 years from date of purchase.

Yes, Adonis 2F Insecticide/Termiticide should be applied when the dog is not present until the area is completely dry, and then he can return.

We would recommend Adonis 2F, which is a much more economical version of Merit.  You would use the soil drench method.  Apply .2 ounces per inch of trunk diameter.  Soil Drench: Apply uniformly as a drench around the base of the tree in not less than 10 gallons of water per 1000 square feet. Direct application to the root area. Remove plastic or any other barrier that will stop solution from reaching the root zone.

Typically, a soil drench aplication of the Adonis 2F will last 6-12 months, but usually only one application is needed per year. It is recommended that you perform your treatment in early spring when nutrient uptake is optimal

Per the product label on page 15, you would use .6 fl oz Adonis 2F per gallon water or 24 oz per 40 gallons water.

You will receive the same length of protection with either the Adonis 2F or the Adonis 75 WSP if applied per the product label instructions for adelgid control. They are different formulations so they have different percentages of the active ingredient. The Adonis 2F is a liquid that makes mixing in smaller amounts easier for most homeowners that do not have a large enough tank to mix the Adonis 75 WSP.

Adonis 75 WSP is labeled to be reapplied every 5 years. While it will likely last as long as Dominion 2L it has not been tested that long so the manufacturer cannot claim it is active for longer than it has been tested for. We recommend using a product that contains imidacloprid (Adonis, Dominion) or fipronil (Termidor or Taurus) for the best termite protection.

The best time to treat for grubs is prior to egg hatch.  Adonis 2F woudl be a good option as you mix .46fl oz - .6floz per 1,000 square feet. The exact amount of water is dependent upon how much water it takes to cover 1,000 sq feet (mark off a 10 x 100 ft area, however much water it takes to spray this area thoroughly is how much water you will mix per .46- .6fl oz of Adonis 2F)

Apply this product in sufficient water to provide adequate distribution in the treated area. The use of accurately calibrated equipment normally used for the application of turfgrass insecticides is required. Use equipment which will produce a uniform, coarse droplet spray, using a low pressure setting to eliminate off target drift. Check calibration periodically to ensure that equipment is working properly 

You will need to use a product that contains imidacloprid such as Adonis 2F to treat systemically for whitefly on ficus. It can take several weeks for the Adonis to translocate through the plant. We recommend using a product with an active ingredient that is different than the soil drench for a foliage application while you are waiting for the Adonis to translocate through the ficus. Yes, Adonis 2F can be applied in a Hose End Sprayer. Please refer to the product label for application.

Yes, applying Adonis 2F as a soil drench for treating aphids on a large tree will work the same as Merit 2F. They have the same active ingredient, Imidicloprid. The product works through the root zone. You will apply 0.1-0.2 fl oz per inch of the trunk's diameter. Please refer to the product label for full mixing and application instructions.

You CANNOT use Adonis on your animals in place of a topical flea and tick product. While these products may share a common active ingredient, the formulation is very different and you can cause substantial harm, even death if you apply Adonis to your animals.

Adonis 2F Insecticide/Termiticide does need to be watered in ½ inch after application for grubs or chinch bugs

Since you control scale insects when they are on the move which is in the late winter and spring you would wait until then to use the Adonis 2F insecticide/Termiticide again. We recommend checking with you local Extension Office to get a better exact time frame for treating in your area.
