    Q
What precautions do I need to take before placing the Advance Termite Bait System Kit in the landscaping area around my house?
Landscaping area includes different shrubs. I occasionally grow edible plants in this area too. Want to know if I can continue to do that after placing the stations.
    A

There are not really any precautions you need to take when installing the Advance Termite Bait System Kit aside from carefully reading the application instructions to be sure they are being installed correctly. If you have edibles on the property close to the foundation of the home you would just want to be sure the bait stations are installed outside of the dripline of the edible plants.

    Q
I live in Connecticut, in a residential neighborhood. My house sits between 80 and 100 feet from woods
There is a lot of termite activity in the woods. I've had my house inspected for termites and there is no signs of any activity. Though my swimming pool a few years back had a bunch of tiny holes chewed thru the liner from what I was told was caused by termites. Should I place your bait stations in the rear of the back yard near the woods line. I have a stone wall that separates my lawn from the woods and was thinking of setting the bait stations along this stone wall. Just wondering what you would recommend? Before I replaced the pool liner I had the soil below the pool treated by an exterminator. They are the ones that inspected my house for termite activity Thank you
    A
Termite baiting stations such as the Advance Termite Baiting Kits are designed only to protect structures and cannot be used farther than about 6 feet from a structure such as your home. Since termites are going to be found all over in a wooded area, especially, it would be neither desirable nor reasonable to try to control termites in a natural area. You can definitely use these stations as directed to protect your home or another structure from termite activity. You have also done the right thing in treating the soil before installing a new pool liner.

    Q
Is it ok to move stations and add new stations with baits after finding activities?
I found activities in two monitoring stations today, one completely eaten, the other half gone. I replaced them with baits and moved one of them closer to where I think the termites are, and also added a new station with bait directly. Is this ok to do, or did I disrupt termites in this way? Also, when are termites most active, in spring?
    A
You should not move a bait station after termite activity has been disturbed. This will disrupt the termites and will stop them from feeding and can stop them from returning to the colony. Termites are active year-round but you will see the most activity during the rainy season.

    Q
Which auger should I use to set up the Advance Termite Bait System?
Which of your auger bits will work for these bait stations? The instructions say to use a 2.5” diameter auger, but does not specify a length. It looks like you carry 3” diameter augers of multiple lengths, but I don't see any 2.5” diameter ones.
    A

The Advance Termite Bait System Kit stations are approximately 7 inches in length and we recommend to leave 2-4 inches more below the stations housing to allow excess moisture to drain. With this in mind, you can use something like the Power Planter DIY Guru Auger (3 in x 12 in) – 312.

    Q
I purchased Taurus SC and 15 bait stations. Can I use both at the same time, or is there a procedure for which is used first?
    A

Yes, the Advance Termite Bait System Kit and Taurus SC would be used around the same time as they are used in different areas and provide different forms of prevention.  We have a guide here that explains how to use them together.  If you have an active infestation of termites you will need to locate and spot treat that directly and this can be done with Taurus as well.  We have a guide here that can help with that.

    Q
Can Talstar P be used in conjunction with the Advance Termite Bait System Kit?
I recently bought Talstar P to spray my lawn and up the side of the house around the perimeter (as instructed)
    A

Advance Termite Bait Stations should be placed 2-4 feet away from the foundation and spaced 10-15 feet away from each other. If there are termites that make it past the bait staions, the barrier made with the Talstar will kill them once they come in contact with the product.

    Q
I have a residence with a crawlspace. Should I use Taurus SC or the Advance Termite Bait System in the crawlspace?
    A

For treating in a crawl space you will need to use Taurus SC.  You can’t apply the Advance Termite System under the house.  It is labeled for outside perimeter use only.

    Q
Does the Advance Termite Bait System Kit only kill foraging termites or is this taken back to colony and kill colony residents?
Many like spectracide only kill foraging termites and they do not take it back to colony. I'm looking for something like terro used for ants which is taken back to colony.
    A

The bait in the Advance Termite Bait System Kit is taken back to the colony by foraging termites and shared with the rest of the colony.

    Q
Would you say the wood in the stations in the Advance Termite Bait System Kit is necessary to use or is just to fill in the space?
    A

The wood in the stations in the Advance Termite Bait System Kit is necessary as the termites find it appetizing which will help with monitoring activity.

  • Asked by Jamie from Lake Charles, La
    02/02/2018
    Q
What are the measurements of the Advance Termite Bait Stations?
I have cored 3" holes in the concrete around my house. Each hole is 19' apart under the drip line of my roof. Will these stations fit into the 3" holes? Or will I have to "modify" them to make them fit?
    A

The Advance Termite Bait Station is a little over 7 inches tall and 5.90 wide. Stations are placed 10-15 feet apart, 2-4 feet away from the foundation around the structure to be treated to monitor subterranean termite activity, but not directly under the drip line from the roof of the structure. To dig holes for the stations, use a 2 ¾ in. hand or electric auger or post hole digger. The cavity for each station should extend 2 to 4 in. below the station's housing to allow excess moisture to drain.

  • Asked by M from New Orleans, La

    Q
Will the Advance Termite Bait System Kit work for Formosan termites?
I think we have both subterranean and Formosan termites. These baits indicate they are good for subterranean, but will they also kill Formosan colonies? Thanks.
    A

The Advance Termite Bait System Kit would not be a good option to treat for Formosan termites.  It is important to treat Formosan termites using a soil application around the structure (trenching and drilling and using liquid termiticide) and wood applications using a wood treatment such as Bora-Care. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article on How to Get Rid of Formosan Termites for more information on a successful program.

  • Asked by Tommy from California, Md
    04/22/2016
    Q
What is the difference between Advance Termite Bait System Kit and the Trelona one?
Also, are the bait/monitoring cartridges interchangeable?
    A

The main difference is that the Trelona is a direct baiting system, which means it does not have the monitoring inspection cartridge in it at all, it always has the bait cartridge.  While the stations themselves are relatively the same and you could use the Advance in the Trelona, the Advance Termite stations have been discontinued and will no longer be available once stock runs out.

  • Asked by Carolynne from Danville, Pa

    Q
Will Advance Termite Bait System Kit affect well water?
Will this system affect well water ? How far from a well should bait stations be placed? I have just gotten a quote from a professional company and they said their bait stations are safe for wells, but that they can not use the liquid because it will contaminate the well.
    A

Yes, the Advance Termite Bait Systems are safe to use on a property with a well. Many liquids are as well depending on how far your well is from the home and unless its closer than 5 -10 feet from the home to require a station be placed instead, most liquids can still be used just with special application techniques per the label.

I have 3" stone 4" deep 6' out from foundation what do I do put it under the stone for Termites?
    A

It may be best in the situatution to use a product like Termidor. If the stones cannot be moved so you can trench, you would want to try and drill. Be sure to review our Termite Guide for the best tips on Termite control.
