    Q
    Installations in Concrete
There were no instructions if the recommended area has a 4" concrete slab. Do you core drill and place flush with the slab, or recess the core drill in the slab so that the top of the station is at ground level?
    A

If you want to use the Advance Termite Bait System Kit in concrete, then you would core into the concrete, place the wood base and monitor directly into the hole, and then cover the hole using a concrete port cover.

    Q
Would the Advance Termite Bait System Kit or Taurus SC be better around my home for termites?
I live in North Florida, my home is built on concrete columns with a slab under the house and also has a concrete footer around the slab.
    A

Whether you want to use termite bait stations such as the Advance Termite Bait System Kit or do a liquid soil treatment usually depends on whether there is concrete or soil right next to the foundation. So if there is concrete that extends directly next the foundation all the way around the house, most customers do not want to drill holes into the concrete to accommodate a soil treatment. Bait stations would require less drilling if you have a wide swatch of concrete around the foundation. If there is concrete that is under about 2-3 feet, then you could place bait stations in the ground outside that surface since they should be placed 2-4 feet from the foundation (and outside the dripline of the roof), regardless.

The trench method using Taurus SC directly agains the foundation, columns, pillars or support piers that touch the soil would be the best long term preventative treatment for Subterranean Termites as it bonds to the soil for 10 years. You may review our article on Subterranean Termite Prevention here to learn more about drilling through concrete for the application as well as digigng the trench against the foundation.

    Q
Will the Advance Termite Bait System kill both Subterranean and Drywood Termites?
I have damage to my home have had 6 inspections from licensed exterminators. I was told there is no sign of activity and sent pictures to pest control companies with not help. I do not trust exterminators in my area.
    A

The Advance Termite Bait System would only be effective to monitor and detect Subterranean Termites in the soil before the reach the home. This treatment will not treat or eliminate Drywood Termites.

Subterranean and Drywood Termites require 2 different types of treatments due to where the colony is based. Subterranean Termite colonies are below the soil surface and can be anywere within 100 ft of the home below the ground. Drywood Termite colonies form in the actual wood they are consuming.

For Subterranean Termites, the Termite Trench Method is the most effective treatment for active Subterranean Termites using Taurus SC. The trench method can elimnate active termites within 120 days and will provide a 10 year barrier protection against future termites.

Drywood Termites can be directly treated using Termidor Foam if colonies are located behind wall voids, around windows, doors, behind cabinets, in ceilings, etc. If the infested or damaged wood is open and exposed, BoraCare would be recommended to spray/paint on damaged or new wood in it’s bare state (no paint, stain or sealant). This application will absorb completely throughout wood and last the entire life of the wood for protection against wood destroying insects.

    Q
Can the Advance Termite Bait System Kit be used during the raining season for termites or is it better to wait until the dry season? Will the rain water wet the wood base in the station?
    A

The Advance Termite Bait System Kit can be installed at any time throughout the year, for monitoring termite activity.  You should replace the wood bases and Termite Inspection Cartridges every 12 months for best results.  Wood that is soggy or moldy should be replaced as soon as possible.  As this system is in place year around, if you feel like the rainy season in your region would not be conducive for effective installation and monitoring, you may consider trenching around your home with a product like Taurus SC to create a protective barrier against subterranean termites.  You can read over our Subterranean Termite Treatment Guide for more information on this treatment, and you can watch a helpful video by clicking here.

    Q
    Installation around house with basement
Before buying the bait system, I'd like to know this would be an effective system for my situation. What would be the best practice to Installation around a house with a basement? For the liquid treatment, if there's a basement, you put more termiticide ratio than a typical slap foundation application. Since I have a basement 3 sides are below grade, is the installation instruction different from those basic 2-3 ft away from the foundation and 10 - 15ft between the bait station? or bait station system is not recommended in this situation?
    A

Advance Termite Bait System Kit is helpful to detect termites before they get to the home and can be used in addition to a termite trench treatment.

Termite trenching using Taurus SC is the most effective way to protect your home against Subterranean Termites. For treating around homes with basements, it is recommended to rod down at least 4 feet if footing is lower than 4 feet. You can still dig the 6 in x 6 in trench and rod every 12 inches down a couple more feet using a piece of rebarb and hammer it down into the bottom of the trench every foot or so.

Termites do forage near the surface, just not typically within the top 3-4 inches of the soil so the 6 inch trench will take care of most all issues. We recommend spot treating if and where you see active termites by injecting a mixed gallon of solution using Taurus SC or foaming into the wall void using Termidor Foam.

    Q
Should the Advance Termite Bait System be used or go ahead and do the liquid barrier treatment around the exterior foundation of my home? Do I only treat the outside perimeter or also under the house where termites are entering my home through HVAC duct?
    A

If termites have already reached the home, the Advance Termite Bait System Kit would not treat the termite colony. Bait Systems are used to detect termite activity before they reach the home. If termites are active at the home or structure, the most effective treatment is by doing a termite trench treatment around the exterior perimeter foundation of the home using Taurus SC. This will eradicate a Subterranean Termite colony within 90 days and provide a 10 year barrier against future termites. If there are piers or pilars under the home, you will do the same trench treatment around those as well. Q
What precautions do I need to take before placing the Advance Termite Bait System Kit in the landscaping area around my house?
Landscaping area includes different shrubs. I occasionally grow edible plants in this area too. Want to know if I can continue to do that after placing the stations.
    A

There are not really any precautions you need to take when installing the Advance Termite Bait System Kit aside from carefully reading the application instructions to be sure they are being installed correctly. If you have edibles on the property close to the foundation of the home you would just want to be sure the bait stations are installed outside of the dripline of the edible plants.

    Q
I live in Connecticut, in a residential neighborhood. My house sits between 80 and 100 feet from woods
There is a lot of termite activity in the woods. I've had my house inspected for termites and there is no signs of any activity. Though my swimming pool a few years back had a bunch of tiny holes chewed thru the liner from what I was told was caused by termites. Should I place your bait stations in the rear of the back yard near the woods line. I have a stone wall that separates my lawn from the woods and was thinking of setting the bait stations along this stone wall. Just wondering what you would recommend? Before I replaced the pool liner I had the soil below the pool treated by an exterminator. They are the ones that inspected my house for termite activity Thank you
    A
Termite baiting stations such as the Advance Termite Baiting Kits are designed only to protect structures and cannot be used farther than about 6 feet from a structure such as your home. Since termites are going to be found all over in a wooded area, especially, it would be neither desirable nor reasonable to try to control termites in a natural area. You can definitely use these stations as directed to protect your home or another structure from termite activity. You have also done the right thing in treating the soil before installing a new pool liner.
