You can use an insecticide spray and a bait like Advion Roach Bait Gel in the same room at the same time, just not on the same surfaces. The rule of thumb is spray low (areas like baseboards, kick plates below cabinets, and under appliances) and bait high (in areas like inside cabinets and drawers and up higher near small appliances such as microwaves, toasters and coffee pots). Please take a moment to look over our Roach Control Guide for more information on treating and preventing a roach infestation.
We would recommend that you dust the voids with Cimexa Dust using a dust applicator. Advion Roach bait is a great bait but with the amount of roaches that you currently are noticing, I would suggest using Maxforce FC Magnum (every couple of weeks-cleaning up previous bait placements) for a few months then switch to Advion after for another 3 months (replaceing every couple of weeks). I am not sure what and when the apartment was sprayed with so you may want to find out if you can if you plan to spray your apartment in the future. I can help you select a spray that will be effective for your needs and let you know when to treat based on the last application applied by the professional. Incorporating an insect growth regulator would be suggested also such as Gentrol Point Source Stations to impede their life cycle. You will want to keep the moisture sources down as much as possible inside of your unit and store food in airtight containers. You will want to clean out all large and small appliances also. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article/videos on How to Get Rid of Roaches for inoformation on how to inplement a successful eradication program.
We recommend using a roach bait gel in most situations when you are actively finding roaches, especially in areas with lots of moisture like in a bathroom. Bait gel has more moisture than bait stations, it’s easy to apply directly into cracks and crevices, and you do not have to worry about the small size of stations that keep some roaches from entering. Using Gentrol along with a bait gel is perfect to control those smaller roaches, as well.

When treating shared unit buildings, using Advion Roach Bait Gel on its own would not be the most effective way to eliminate a roach colony. The best way to eradicate roaches is to use a combination of a residual spray, a roach bait, and an insect growth regulator. You may want to consider using one of our Roach Control Kits, as thekits will provide all of these products. We would also suggest applying an insecticide dust in the wall voids to help protect your home from roaches transferring from other units. It is possible for a bird to be harmed after ingesting the Advion Roach Bait Gel as they can be pretty sensitive to chemicals. We would recommend only applying in areas that the bird does not have access to. We have a great video here that shows where to apply the bait. You can see the video by clicking here. In order for the bird to be harmed from eating a killed or dying roach from the bait, they would generally have to eat a large amount but we would recommend checking with your vet to be sure as birds can be more sensitive than other animals.

Advion Roach Bait Gel is a slow kill so that it has time to be taken back to the colony and spread. Roaches can start dying within a few hours. How long it takes to eliminate a roach infestation depends on how large the infestation is, how consistent and thorough you are being with treatments, and the specific products you are using. There is not a set time; it can take but it can take weeks or months even to get complete control. Advion Roach Bait Gel is typically not used alone but in combination with other products. We would recommend one of our roach control kits. You can see the kits by clicking on the link here. We also have a great article for eliminating them that can offer some great advice; you can find it here.
You should place Advion Cockroach Gel Bait indoors and outdoors as a crack and crevice treatment.
