Q
What is the residual activity of Astro Insecticide for basal bark treatment?

When spraying the bark of a tree for borers how long can I expect this product to have it's intended effects? One week, two weeks, one month?

A

Astro Insecticide only has a residual of about 30 days on outside surfaces.  It should only be used for prevention on healthy trees applied directly to the bark and branches up to 15 feet.   Infected trees should be cut down (before the newly hatched beetles fly out of the trees in the spring/summer) and the wood burned or chipped, while other still healthy trees should be sprayed annually to protect them. Because of the natural boring behavior of the beetle they are protected from topically applied insecticides and systemic insecticides (those injected into the tree or applied as a root drench) have proven ineffective

Q
What is the rate for Astro Insecticide for a 50 gallon skid sprayer?
A

Per the Astro Insecticide product label for ticks: Mix 1.6-3.2 fl. oz. of Astro in 16 to 100 gallons of water and apply to 4000 square feet of lawn. Use the lower rate to knock down existing fleas and the higher rate where faster knockdown or greater residual is desired.

For example:

Small Lawns 2,000 sqft Use 0.8 to 1.6 fl oz in 8 to 50 gallons of water

Small Lawns 4,000 sqft Use 1.6 to 3.2 fl oz in 16 to 100 gallons of water

Medium Lawns 6,000 sqft Use 2.4 to 4.8 fl oz in 24 to 150 gallons of water

Large Lawns 12,000 sqft Use 4.8 to 9.6 fl oz 48 to 300  gallons of water

Lawn should not be longer than 3 inches at the time of application. Repeat application should be limited to no more than once per seven days. Application in combination with compatible surfactants may enhance penetration. Arid climates generally require the higher volumes.
