Barricade 4FL Pre-Emergent Herbicide (Prodiamine) is a flowable liquid so does stay suspended in liquid better than the Prodiamine 65 WDG which is water dispersible granules which do not actually dissolve.
You should still agitate the sprayer during application for consistent suspension while applying.
A hose end sprayer is not recommended for applying Barricade 4FL Pre-Emergent Herbicide (Prodiamine) as this type of sprayer is hard to regulate the water volume being used. Herbicides are much different than other chemicals because water just acts as the carrier and each applicator may use a different volume of water for their treatment areas.
The product label states to apply 0.23 - 1.1 oz per 1,000 sq ft in a sufficient water volume to cover each 1000 sq ft area depending on your type fo turfgrass.
Please read the product label to determine the exact usage rate for your needs as it varies according to the species of grass you have and view our How to Calibrate Your Sprayer Video for a demonstration if needed.
It is not recommended to apply herbicides such as Barricade 4FL Pre-Emergent Herbicide (Prodiamine) with hose-end sprayers like the Ortho Dial N Spray Hose End Sprayer, as they do not necessarily distribute an accurate rate of product.
It is recommended to use a Hand Pump Sprayer or a Backpack Sprayer for herbicide applications, in order to ensure proper use rates.
Please refer to page 13 of the manufacturer's product label for rates specific to your grass type, and use as directed.
We would not recommend using Barricade 4FL Pre-Emergent Herbicide (Prodiamine) in a hose-end sprayer as it is difficult to get the proper coverage and water volume needed and proper mix ratio.
It is recommended to use pressurized handpump sprayers, backpack sprayers or large capacity sprayers to ensure you are getting the best even coverage using a sufficient volume of water to evenly apply the product at the recommended rate per 1000 sq ft. Please view the product label for application rates and more information.
Barricade 4L would not prevent bermuda nor any other turfgrass from growing in a St Augustine grass lawn and there is product that will.
Barricade 4FL Pre-Emergent Herbicide does not kill weeds or grasses. It will only keep the weeds listed on the label from germinating and is safe for the listed turfgrasses. Please see the label for a full list of targeted weeds and full application instructions.
You need to wait at least four months after applying Barricade 4FL Pre-Emergent Herbicide (Prodiamine) before you can put down new sod.
Refer to the chart on page 15 of the product label indicating minimum wait times depending on your location, the rate it was applied and what turgrass type you will be seeding.
Eastern White Pine and Virginia Pine are both labeled to be tolerant to using Barricade 4FL. Please refer to the product label for more information.
When used as directed, and not touched when wet, Barricade is usually safe around wildlife. We do encourage anyone with this concern to review the SDS in its entirety but I have pasted the part ecological information from page 6 below for you to review.
