    Q
How to measure Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed Concentrate if treating multi trunk crape myrtle tree ?
Or can I mix using height which is approximately 20 ft
    A

If you have trees with multiple trunks, then you would add the trunks together to get the total trunk circumference for that tree when using Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed Concentrate. So if you have 6 inches of the total circumference (not diameter) when you add up all the trunks, then you would use 6 oz of concentrate for that tree.

Refer to page 3 of the product label for more information.

  • Asked by Nena from Midlothian, Illinois
    06/25/2022
    Q
Is the measurement for Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed Concentrate by circumference or diameter? The product label indicates circumference but some Q&A's mention diameter so wanting to clarify which one it is.
The instructions say to use 1 oz of concentrate per inch distance around the tree. My tree is 36” at the smallest part of the trunk and 46” at the very base, but the diameter is about 12”-15”. Around the trunk to me sounds like circumference, but many of the answers on this page say diameter. So which is correct?
    A

We apologize for any confusion. Per the product label, use 1 oz of Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II Concentrate for every inch of distance around trunk so that would be the circumference around the tree.

    Q
If using Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed Concentrate, how high up on the trunk should one measure the circumference of the tree?
    A

For determining how many ounces total of Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed Concentrate is needed for your size tree, measure the distance in inches around the tree trunk at approximately 4.5 feet from ground level. This measurement is the amount of ounces of product to add to 1 gallon of water. If the tree measures greater than 50 inches around, pour the required product into 2 gallons of water. A flexible tape measure is the recommended method for measuring the distance around a tree.

    Q
Can Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed Concentrate be applied to large trees for green leafhoppers and locusts?
I have a locust tree that measures 150” diameter. I'll have to apply 150 ounces of product I figure I should dilute it 4/1?
    A

For trees, you will use 1 fl oz per inch of distance around the trunk therefore yes, if the tree measures 150 inches around the trunk at the height 4.5ft from the ground, you will mix 150 fl oz (1.2 gallons) of Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed Concentrate in 2 gallons of water. Slowly pour the mixed solution evenly around the tree starting as close to the TRUNK/main stem of the tree/shrub as possible staying within 3 to 4 ft of the base of the tree. Then, fill the bucket with clean water and pour it around the trunk as well.

NOTE: Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed Concentrate has been discontinued by the manufacturer.

The granule formulation (BioAdvanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II Granules) are still available.

    Q
Do I need to pull up my lawn/grass that grows right up to the trunk of my crepe myrtle when applying Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II Concentrate as a soil drench?
In regards to the 5/19/2014 Q&A: You mention pulling up dry leaves/mulch. I have grass growing right up to the trunk of a crepe myrtle. Do I need to dig up the lawn around the tree to expose the
    A

Turfgrass would not need to be pulled back or removed before applying Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II Concentrate for soil drench applciations. The pulling back or removing is referencing weed barriers, mulch, leaf liter or other types of organic matter that can cause the insecticide can bind to the organic matter and reduce uptake by the roots.

You may need to used slighly more water volume to ensure the drench solution penetrates through the thatch layer of the turfgrass and gets into the root zone. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake.

When using Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II - Concentrate for trees the product label states you use 1 oz for every inch of distance around trunk. For trees with distance around trunk of less than 30 inches apply the solution evenly in a circle 2 feet from the tree trunk. Trees with distance around trunk greater than 30 inches, apply the solution evenly in a circle 3 - 4 feet from the tree trunk.
