Safety Products

Please be sure to read the product label of any insecticide you choose to use to get information on the personal protective safety gear you will need. In most situations, it is recommended that you wear long pants, a long sleeved shirt, closed toe shoes with socks, chemical resistant gloves, and goggles. In areas where ventilation is poor, a manufacturer may recommend you wear a mask or a respirator. We have put together two different safety kits that will make selecting the correct safety gear easier for you.

Mattress Covers for Bed Bug Control
If a new mattress is to be protected from bed bug infestation or an old infested bed is to be kept, your best non-chemical method of control is to place a smooth, tight-fitting, hardy cover over your old mattress. This is known as encasement.

How It Works
Encasing the mattress and box springs prevents an infestation from growing by denying bed bugs access to the hard-to-treat inner areas. This all important function of bed bug mattress covers serves a dual-purpose:

  1. Effective Prevention. You will easily be able to spot and remove new clusters of bed bugs on the smooth cover, thus preventing new infestations.

  2. Effective Control. Any existing bed bugs that happen to be inside the mattress cover at the time of encasement are now entombed and will eventually die.

Not Just Any Mattress Cover Will Do!

For bed bug prevention and control, an ordinary mattress cover will not suffice. The reason for this is that bed bugs are able to escape or feed through the fibers of an ordinary cover. Bed Bugs are also able to find their way through the loose teeth of the side zipper unless it is specially designed. Using an ineffective encasement that was not designed for bed bug control will actually prove more detrimental than not using an encasement at all.

Protecta-A-Bed: The Original Bed Bug Mattress Cover

Protect-A- Bed BugLock® Encasements are the original bed bug mattress covers and the first to be backed by scientific data for proven efficacy. Protect-A-Bed encasements have been show through rigorous scientific tests to be 100% escape-proof and bite-proof.

Protecting the Bed Bug Mattress Cover
Once the mattress cover is in place, it should be considered the new surface exterior of the mattress and never be removed. A mattress pad or fitted sheet may be used to cover the encasement to prevent staining. Also, the bed bug mattress cover will remain effective only as long as it is not ripped or torn in any way, so if your bed frame has any sharp edges, bolts, or other protrusions that might damage the cover, it would be wise to install felt covers over sharp edges or install additional padding.
