Bifen IT - Questions & Answers

Bifen IT is an excellent general insecticide. It is labeled for over 75 different pests, fleas, spiders and beetles included. You will spray this around the baseboards and cracks and crevices in your home. It can also be used outdoors. It can be broadcast across your lawn, on shrubs, trees, flowers, etc. It is not labeled to be used on any type of edibles. The residual is up to 90 days indoors and 30 days outdoors. We would recommend removing your cat when you are spraying. Once the product is dry, it is safe for children and pets to return to the room.

Bifen IT is a great product labeled for over 75 types of insects, including scorpions and  especially mosquitoes. Mix 1oz Bifen IT per 1 gallon of water and apply as a perimeter treatment or broadcast treatment over the entire property. When treating for mosquitoes, it is important to focus on the undersides of leaves, bushes, trees, shrubs, decking, eaves, etc as this is where mosquitoes will hide during the day. Pay attention to damp areas and possible consider using BTI Mosquito Dunks in areas where you have standing water.

Bifen IT used inside the home as a crack and crevice treatment will last 90 days and 30 days outside the home as a perimeter or broadcast treatment.

Whether you should spray your whole lawn or just the perimeter with Bifen I/T or any other insecticide is entirely dependent on what pests you are primarily treating for. For example, if fleas, ants, chinch bugs or crickets are your main pests, we would suggest continuing to spray your whole lawn. If mosquitoes and flies are your main pests, then focusing your sprays on bushes, trees and areas of dense foliage would be best. But at any time if you feel it gives you better control over all the pests in your area to treat the whole yard then that is entirely up to you.

Bifen IT should be used within 3 years of the date of purchase. It is important to store insecticides out of direct sunlight and out of extreme temperatures

You can spray plants with Bifen IT on days with high temps but you should refrain from spraying during the heat of the day. Instead, restrict applications to very early morning or late evening. This will prevent the sun rays from scorching the plants while they are still wet.

Bifen IT is labeled to kill chiggers, fleas and bed bugs (not in residential areas) along with 75 other different insects commonly found around the house hold.

Bifen IT is labeled to treat for clover mites when used accordingly. Clover mites are barely smaller than a pinhead. You may notice clover mites as dark red moving specks which occur in large numbers. They are generally found crawling aroudn doors, windows, sidings, curtains, or furniture. Be sure to treat the ground at least 5-10 feet from the structure where you are seeing the clover mites.  

As long as Bifen IT was applied as directed on the label and watered in as required for chinch bugs (at least 0.25 inch of irrigation) after application, you can go ahead and water in the fertilizer.  It will not move much farther into the soil as it is designed to bind to the soil. If more water was used that would just have pushed it down into the soil better and will be fine.

Bifen IT and Demand CS have very similar active ingredients, so it would not be of any benefit to mix these two products together. If you would like to tell us more about what pest you are treating and where, then we are happy to give you further advice on your treatment.

You should dethatch first and then treat with Bifen IT for increased effectiveness. You should water in the product after application to reach the areas they feed. 

Yes, Bifen IT can be tank mixed with Pivot IGR in the same hand pump sprayer. Follow the mix rate instructions on both product labels for the target pest you are treating. 

Talstar P and Bifen IT are essentially the same product, just made by two different manufacturers.  Both contain the exact same active ingredient in the same amount.  Both are labled for over 75 insect pests and both are commonly recommended for general indoor and outdoor pest control. 

Bifen IT cannot be used a ULV or thermal fogging machine. You can use it in a handheld or backpack sprayer or a mist blower such as the Solo 451.

Bifen I/T can be used to spray around the homes foundation and in the yard for most species of ants. All ants are sugar ants (they all feed on sugars and proteins) so we couldnt say for certain how well it will work for your specific situation without knowing the exact ant species. We recommend that you either wait at least one year before planting edibles where Bifen IT has been sprayed or that you excavate the soil in the area you want to plant. You can also create raised garden beds where you would be bringing in fresh soil media.

We do not see any reason why you can't spray Bifen IT and Hi-Yield Atrazine together. For more information on application and dilution, please refer to the product labels of each product.

Unfortunately, we do not recommend Bifen IT in a pressure washer application. We recommend using it either in a hand pump sprayer, backpack sprayer, or hose end sprayer for a lawn application. 

Bifen IT could harm lightning bugs/fireflies if they land on a treated surface long enough to receive a lethal dosage.
