    Q
Should I use an IGR with Bifen IT to control roaches?
Should I add an insect growth regulator(IGR) to Bifen IT to keep roaches and other pests out of my home?
    A
We always recommend using an IGR such as Nyguard or Gentrol to help break the roach infestation cycle. We also recommend using a roach bait gel such as Advion Roach Bait Gel to help get rid of those roaches that harbor in areas where you cannot spray (cabinets, drawers, counters, around sinks).

    Q
Can Bifen IT be used as foliar spray in high temperatures?
    A
We do not recommend that you spray Bifen IT or any product on foliage during the hottest, sunniest part of the day. You can use the product during hot temperatures but it should be applied early in the morning or late in the evening before the sun is beating down on the foliage.

    Q
How much to buy for an acre?
Our house is on an acre. We are mostly fighting fire ants, flies (on flowering shrubs), spider mites, and wasps. We also have a pool which attracts flying red ants and I assume we will soon see mosquitos. Help!! Is Biden the solution for us? I have already spent too much money on professional fire ant control with little success. What is the best way to apply? Can I apply to full lawn and shrubs? Hose sprayer? Any help appreciated.
    A
The Bifen would definitely be a great option for most of the pest you are having a problem with. You can use the Bifen in a hand pump sprayer or with a hose end, although you will get more uniform and accurate coverage with a hand pump than you will a hose. You would typically mix 1 ounce to a gallon of water for all the insects in your yard and you can spray the bushes, yard, ornamentals and trees for mosquitoes, spider mites, wasps and regular ants. For fire ants you need to treat a little differently as they are more unique than other ants. The BEST way to control fire ants is with a professional grade bait like the Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait. It not only is a food source that they will forage for and bring back into the nest, but it also contains an IGR-birth control-to keep the queen from reproducing. This has been proven to have the most thorough results. If you don't want to use a bait you can use the bifen on the fire ants but you must follow the instructions on the label for drenching each mound with at least 3 gallons of water to get all the way to the bottom of the nest. You can see the specific instructions for this method on the Product Label.

    Q
Is it safe to spray this around the parameter of a raised bed garden?
I also have several apple trees in an area surrounded by mulch. Can this be sprayed on the mulch (not directly on the trees) and the apples will still be safe to eat?
    A
As long as the product does not come into direct contact with the plants, their roots or drip line, you can use the product around the areas safely. Try to spray on a very calm sunny day to allow for less chance of wind drift as you spray and for quicker dry times.

    Q
How to control wasps when nest is not on our property
The wasps fly around our back yard and infest our grass, but after searching everywhere we don't think the nest is on our property. What is the best product to spray on our grass and foliage to kill and deter them? We also have pets and kids who like to play in this area.
    A
Bifen IT is safely used in thousands of homes across the country everyday. Bifen IT is safe for use around pets when used according to the label. You should always keep children and pets away from the away while you are treating, and then once the treatment is dry it is perfectly safe to allow pets to re-enter the area. To control wasp and other flying insects around buildings, landscapes, and lawns, dilute 0.33 to 1.0 fl. oz. per gallon of water and use one gallon of dilution per 1000 square feet as a general spray. Bifen IT can be mixed at lower concentrations and applied at higher volumes to ensure application of the proper amount of product to a given area.

    Q
What is the best concentrate to rid mosquitoes, will use an ATV sprayer.
    A
Bifen IT would be a great choice for mosquitoes.  The most important thing to remember when treating for mosquitoes is that they hang out on the underside of leaves and shrubs.  You should treat all shrubs, bushes and trees around the outside patio or wherever you hang out at around the house.  You should also treat the tree line in your yard near the forest if one exists.  Remember to not only treat the main bush or shrub but also the underside of the leaves.

    Q
    Indoor application recommended for Louisiana
I am looking to get rid of my bug man. Along with the added cost, it's really not effective. I have fleas occasionally inside. We do have a cat, but it is sufficiently treated. I always have spiders, alive and dead. All sorts of beetles and other random bugs make it through their "home barrier." Can you recommend an indoor pesticide for me to use or point me the right direction? Any info is greatly appreciated!
    A
Bifen IT is an excellent general insecticide. It is labeled for over 75 different pests, fleas, spiders and beetles included. You will spray this around the baseboards and cracks and crevices in your home. It can also be used outdoors. It can be broadcast across your lawn, on shrubs, trees, flowers, etc. It is not labeled to be used on any type of edibles. The residual is up to 90 days indoors and 30 days outdoors. We would recommend removing your cat when you are spraying. Once the product is dry, it is safe for children and pets to return to the room.

    Q
How can you prevent mosquitoes using Bifen IT
We are living closer to golf/lake areas. More and more mosquitoes have been found around the house and some some come inside the house. Any most effective treatment should be done and how? Does Bifen kill or prevent acorpion too?
    A

Bifen IT is a great product labeled for over 75 types of insects, including scorpions and  especially mosquitoes. Mix 1oz Bifen IT per 1 gallon of water and apply as a perimeter treatment or broadcast treatment over the entire property. When treating for mosquitoes, it is important to focus on the undersides of leaves, bushes, trees, shrubs, decking, eaves, etc as this is where mosquitoes will hide during the day. Pay attention to damp areas and possible consider using BTI Mosquito Dunks in areas where you have standing water.

Bifen IT used inside the home as a crack and crevice treatment will last 90 days and 30 days outside the home as a perimeter or broadcast treatment.

  • Asked by Andrea from Atlanta, Georgia
    09/25/2014
    Q
What is the minimum time that should pass before re-spraying Bifen IT for mosquitoes?
We have sprayed 3 times this summer for mosquitoes and the Bifen IT has not gotten rid of them nearly as well as it did when we used it last summer. We just sprayed 6 days ago and still have quite a lot of mosquitoes. Can we re-spray yet? Also is it possible that the Bifen IT has lost it's potency in one year?
    A
Bifen IT is recommended to use once every 30 days outside for Mosquito control. Depending on the weather conditions(rainfall), this could affect your results. For best results, allow 24 hours after outdoor application before expected rainfall or watering. When applying, focus on the underside of leaves on bushes, shrubs and trees as this where mosquitos will hide during the day. For a quick knockdown mixing a Pyrethrin concentrate with the Bifen IT will give you immediate relief. Mix 1oz ExciteR and 1oz Bifen IT in 1 gallong of water. With this combination, you get the quick knockdown and the residual for 30 days. Mixing Bifen IT at the lower mixing rated of .33floz you can apply higher volumes to ensure application of the proper amount of product to a given area or you can mix Bifen IT at the higher rate of 1oz per gallon of water for a longer residual and a quicker knockdown. If there are areas where there is standing water, using the BTI Mosquito Dunks will help.

    Q
How do I apply Bifen IT on my ornamental plant to kill scale?
I understand scale is on the bottom side of the leaves. Do I need to make sure I get the spray on the bottom side of the leaves or is spraying it on the top side enough to kill scale?
    A
You should be sure to apply Bifen IT where it would make the most contact with the pest you are trying to treat for so if scales on the bottom of leaves, treatment should be directed there.

  • Asked by Shirley from Hilo, Hawaii
    12/05/2015
    Q
Can I use a pump sprayer that is also used to fertilize vegetables to apply Bifen IT, or should I use a pump used for poisoning weeds?
    A

Bifen IT is not a product that is approved for use on edible plants, so if you are using it in equipment that is used for this purpose, be sure the equipment is thoroughly cleaned both before and after applications. It is generally best to use dedicated equipment for use around edibles, and to use separate equipment for herbicides so that there is no residual that may interfere with other applications.
