    Q
I just put down a new lawn, which came with bugs. Is Bifen IT safe to apply to lawns?
    A
Absolutely.  Bifen IT is not only great for indoors and outside your home, but it is labeled for lawn and ornamental plants as well.  It is a very popular product to be applied to shrubs, bushes, and trees to get rid of mosquitoes, and is great for applying to lawns for chinch bugs and other pests.  The main place you should not apply it is to anything edible, like a garden.

    Q
Can Bifen IT be used to control/kill fleas in an empty house?
Just purchased a house and the previous owner had dogs which were not treated and the yard was not treated. we are working on the house and there is nothing inside and am just wondering if this can be used along the baseboards/windows/etc since the house is empty?
    A
You can use Bifen IT in all of the cracks and crevices along baseboards, door frames, window frames and places where cables pipes and wires enter through the walls and it will help control fleas in that area. Bifen IT cannot be used as a broadcast spray indoors over floors where fleas are known to develop and because of this is not usually chosen for flea control indoors. We recommend you use Ultracide for indoor flea control. It is our recommendation and industry standard that you vacuum immediately before the application of Ultracide and every day or every other day after the application for the next two weeks. Vacuums can physically remove a decent percentage of flea eggs that are in the carpet, along with much of the organic crud that the flea larvae feed on. A critical part of the diet of the larva is dried blood, present there as fecal material from the fleas that are on the pets. Wherever the pets spend time, they will shed the fecal matter and the eggs, so it is extremely important that you focus on these potential hot spots where the pets sleep. A vacuum also will remove a small percentage of larvae, but the larva is pretty tenacious, and will wrap around the carpet fibers down there at the base of the pile, and hold on for dear life as the vacuum passes by. The pupa is even tougher to physically remove, for it uses fibers as part of its "cocoon". The vacuum will stimulate the flea adults still in their pupa form to quickly emerge as the adult, and at this point perhaps be sucked up in the vacuum. Even if they are not removed by the vacuum, at least they now are exposed and susceptible to your treatment.   After two weeks most infestations require that you do a second application of the Ultracide and continue with the vacuuming.

    Q
If I sprayed Bifen IT to my vegetables garden soil before planting, do I have to remove the soil?
    A
Bifen IT is not labeled for edible vegetation and the soil should not be treated if you are planting edible crops in that area. Bifen IT has a residual that lasts even after it is applied. Please plant in a new location.

    Q
My dog recently got out, now I have ticks on my ceiling. I bought Bifen IT, will this kill them?
I also got the backpack sprayer. I want to do my own yearly pest control. So, what are some other chemicals that I need. I live in NorthEast Florida. Thanks
    A
Yes, Bifen IT is labeled and works very well on ticks. However, it is important to incorporate an IGR (insect growth regulator) into the Bifen IT solution. Nyguard IGR is an exceptional IGR that is works well to control the growth cycle of ticks and prevents the ticks from being able to lay eggs.

  • Asked by Mike from Mercer, Wisconsin

    Q
When using Bifen I/T 7.9% as a lawn mosquito control, will it kill the beneficial dragonflies?
It's pleasant to watch the dragonflies gorging on mosquitoes as they fly around the yard and help us out as they feed. Since my wife already sprayed most of the turf, I hope the dragonflies (quite large ones) are not affected by alighting on the grass.
    A
The Bifen IT is not a selective insecticide so were a dragon fly to land on a surface sprayed with the Bifen it could die from it. It can help to avoid main landing areas for the dragonflies if you do not want to lower the population around the home.

    Q
How do you kill outdoor ants, common ants and fire ants using Bifen IT?
    A

Bifen IT is an excellent insecticide and is labeled for ants, including fire ants.

The best control will be achieved by using broadcast treatments in combination with mound drenches. This will control present colonies along with foraging workers and newly mated fly-in queens. It is critical either to use high volume treatments or to irrigate prior to application if the soil is dry. Apply 1 fl. oz. per 1,000 square feet when using broadcast treatments. For mound drenches, dilute 1 teaspoon of Bifen I/T per gallon
of water and use 1 to 2 gallons of finished dilution using sufficient force to penetrate the top and allow dilution to flood ant channels. Treat a four-foot diameter around each ant mound. Application should be made in late evening or early morning when it is cooler (65-80° when insects are most active. NOTE: A spray rig calibrated to apply 1 fluid oz. per 1,000 square feet of Bifen I/T in 5 gallons per 1,000 square feet contains the equivalent
dilution (1 teaspoon per gallon) required for fire ant mound drenches in the spray tank.
For other ants, we would recommend a perimeter treatment around your home. You will use 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
Which product recommended to kill mosquito?
I own a still backpack fogger. Right now I'm using vector ban plus to kill the mosquitos at home. It works but it seems like I need to spray every night. We get afternoon showers every day at this time of the year in the south which brings out more mosquitos. I was thinking of ordering Bifen and Demon Max and spraying them in rotation. Any advice on any of these 3 products are another recommendation would help. I want a quick kill and I also would like a residual
    A

Vector Ban Plus does not leave any kind of residual so will only kill the mosquitoes that are out in the open at the time you are applying to product.

You are on the right track with using a residual product like Bifen IT or Demon Max, it is actually our most popular product for mosquitoes.  The key is to apply it to the underside of leaves of trees and bushes as that is where the adults lay during the day. Bifen would be the more recommended as it known to be super gentle on plants but you can rotate them as well.

    Q
    Indoor application recommended for Louisiana
I am looking to get rid of my bug man. Along with the added cost, it's really not effective. I have fleas occasionally inside. We do have a cat, but it is sufficiently treated. I always have spiders, alive and dead. All sorts of beetles and other random bugs make it through their "home barrier." Can you recommend an indoor pesticide for me to use or point me the right direction? Any info is greatly appreciated!
    A
Bifen IT is an excellent general insecticide. It is labeled for over 75 different pests, fleas, spiders and beetles included. You will spray this around the baseboards and cracks and crevices in your home. It can also be used outdoors. It can be broadcast across your lawn, on shrubs, trees, flowers, etc. It is not labeled to be used on any type of edibles. The residual is up to 90 days indoors and 30 days outdoors. We would recommend removing your cat when you are spraying. Once the product is dry, it is safe for children and pets to return to the room.

    Q
How can you prevent mosquitoes using Bifen IT
We are living closer to golf/lake areas. More and more mosquitoes have been found around the house and some some come inside the house. Any most effective treatment should be done and how? Does Bifen kill or prevent acorpion too?
    A

Bifen IT is a great product labeled for over 75 types of insects, including scorpions and  especially mosquitoes. Mix 1oz Bifen IT per 1 gallon of water and apply as a perimeter treatment or broadcast treatment over the entire property. When treating for mosquitoes, it is important to focus on the undersides of leaves, bushes, trees, shrubs, decking, eaves, etc as this is where mosquitoes will hide during the day. Pay attention to damp areas and possible consider using BTI Mosquito Dunks in areas where you have standing water.

Bifen IT used inside the home as a crack and crevice treatment will last 90 days and 30 days outside the home as a perimeter or broadcast treatment.

  • Asked by Tim from New Lisbon

    Q
Should I spray Perimeter or whole lawn with Bifen IT?
I have been spraying the whole lawn in the past as well as the perimeter. Is it just as effective to spray only the perimeter or should one spray inside of that like on trees and shrubs? Can you please help me on this question
    A
Whether you should spray your whole lawn or just the perimeter with Bifen I/T or any other insecticide is entirely dependent on what pests you are primarily treating for. For example, if fleas, ants, chinch bugs or crickets are your main pests, we would suggest continuing to spray your whole lawn. If mosquitoes and flies are your main pests, then focusing your sprays on bushes, trees and areas of dense foliage would be best. But at any time if you feel it gives you better control over all the pests in your area to treat the whole yard then that is entirely up to you.

I have spider mites in my dessert rose . Can I spray w/ Bifen in the summer / w/ temp 90 degrees ?

You can spray plants with Bifen IT on days with high temps but you should refrain from spraying during the heat of the day. Instead, restrict applications to very early morning or late evening. This will prevent the sun rays from scorching the plants while they are still wet.

    Q
Does Bifen IT work well for clover mites?
I have tons of little red bugs (I'm assuming are clover mites) all over my wooden patio fence and furniture. Will this work to get rid of them?
    A

Bifen IT is labeled to treat for clover mites when used accordingly. Clover mites are barely smaller than a pinhead. You may notice clover mites as dark red moving specks which occur in large numbers. They are generally found crawling aroudn doors, windows, sidings, curtains, or furniture. Be sure to treat the ground at least 5-10 feet from the structure where you are seeing the clover mites.

    Q
Should I use an IGR with Bifen IT to control roaches?
Should I add an insect growth regulator(IGR) to Bifen IT to keep roaches and other pests out of my home?
    A
We always recommend using an IGR such as Nyguard or Gentrol to help break the roach infestation cycle. We also recommend using a roach bait gel such as Advion Roach Bait Gel to help get rid of those roaches that harbor in areas where you cannot spray (cabinets, drawers, counters, around sinks).

    Q
Can Bifen IT be used as foliar spray in high temperatures?
    A
We do not recommend that you spray Bifen IT or any product on foliage during the hottest, sunniest part of the day. You can use the product during hot temperatures but it should be applied early in the morning or late in the evening before the sun is beating down on the foliage.
