    Q
Can I use Bifen for general pest control soon after Termidor has been used in a barrier treatment?
I am wanting to use bifen to control spiders on the corners of my home and around the perimeter. I am also in the process of using termidor in a barrier treatment for termites. Is bifen ok to use right now or should I wait a period of time after the termidor treatment
    A
Since the Bifen will be used topically for general pest control it should not interfere with a trenching treatment done using Termidor SC.

    Q
    Is Bifen IT bee-safe?
Is Bifen IT toxic to honeybees? I am looking for effective control for mosquitos, fleas, and spiders (including brown recluse), but am concerned about increased risk to a dwindling bee population.
    A
Bifen IT is not a selective insecticide and it will kill any insects that come into contact with treated areas. You can reduce the risk to your bees by keeping applications away from areas where the bees are actively foraging and at times when the bees are not active in general. You may also consider using Mavrik Perimeter insecticide for outdoor pests, which is non-repellent and non-toxic to honeybees after it is dried. You will want to read the product label to see if this fits your needs.

    Q
Can I use the same Bifen IT formula to spray fire ant beds?
    A
Bifen IT is labeled for fire ant control and will help help eliminate fire ants when used as directed on the Bifen It product label: fire ant control is optimized by combining broadcast applications that will control foraging workers and newly mated fly-in queens with mound drenches that will control existing colonies. If the soil is not moist, then it is important to irrigate before application or use a high volume application. Apply broadcast treatments at 0.5 to 1 fluid oz. per 1,000 square feet. Use enough finished volume to penetrate thatch or sod. Treat mounds by applying 1 oz Bifen IT per mound in 1 to 2 gallons water by sprinkling the mound until it is wet and treat 3 feet out around the mound. Use the higher volume for mounds larger than 12”. Treat mounds with sufficient force to break their apex and allow the insecticide solution to flow into the ant tunnels. For best results, apply in cool weather (65 - 80˚F) or in early morning or late evening hours.

    Q
I have treated raspberries bushes and strawberries with Bifen I/T, are they safe?
From your previous answers I understand that I can't eat them this season. And if I will move them to another safe spot, will it be safe to eat them next season or should I just throw them away? Thank you!
    A
Normally after changing the soil and waiting a full growing season the plants should be safe, however we would feel more comfortable letting the experts at the manufacturer tell you for sure. You can reach Control Solutions at (281) 892-2500. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
Can Bifen IT be used on animals as a flea and tick dip?
We have several outdoor animals (dogs and cats). And I am wondering if I can use Bifen IT as a dip to get rid of the fleas and ticks and keep them away.
    A
Bifen IT is not labeled for use on animals in any way.  For dogs we would recommend the Permethrin SFR for a flea and tick dip.  You can use it diluted with water as a dip, or a general rub down on their fur for control. Please see the bottom of page 16 of the Product Label for exact mixing rates and how to apply properly to your pet.  For cats, we recommend using something like Petcor Flea spray that can be applied to a towel and then rubbed onto the cat. Petcor will treat flea eggs and flea adults and ticks

    Q
How to you recommend using NyGuard IGR and Bifen IT together? Is it advised to apply at different times?
We have horses and tons of bugs. We are also surrounded by woods and farmland. I am hoping that the Bifen IT will minimize the Mosquitos and ticks while the NyGuard helps reduce the population of flies and bottle flies. At ideas or advise is appreciated.
    A
The Bifen and NyGuard IGR are a wonderful combo and will work great for your needs. The NyGuard and Bifen both will work on all the insects you mentioned as well as a large variety of others like ants, fleas, spiders and millipedes. You can mix the two concentrates together and spray them at the same time for ease of application as IGR's are designed to be mixed with insecticides. Spray the Bifen every 30 days as needed and the NyGuard every 4 to 5 months as it is formulated to hold up to sunlight for that length of time. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
    Could Bifen poison a chipmunk?
After applying bifen in my back yard, next day I found a dead chipmunk. Is it a coincidence, or could bifen actually poison a chipmunk?
    A
This is most likely a coincidence and a wild animal may have gotten a hold of the animal. If the Bifen were to affect the chipmunk it would normally mean the chipmunk got into it the mixed solution itself or maybe consumed a large amount where the surfaces you sprayed were still wet. Once the product is dry it wont harm any animals or people.

    Q
How often can i apply the Bifen I/T? I applied 5 days ago with little results.
I have eco exempt left over from last year can i apply this now that i applied bifen about 5 days ago?
    A
You did not state what insect you are treating for so it is hard to give you a proper treatment method. The Bifen I/T is a great general insecticide for indoor and outdoor use. However, like most professional grade insecticide concentrates, it is NOT a contact kill. It is a residual, which is normally what a home owner is looking for to control pest around home. The insects in your area did not get there overnight, or in 5 days, so you can't expect to see the entire population gone in that time frame. Depending on the insect you are trying to eradicate, where the source of them is, and how well established the colony is in your yard, will all depend on how long it will take for you to see the Bifens potency taking affect. You reapply Bifen every 30 days outdoors and 90 indoors. Please let us know if we can answer any more questions you may have and feel free to offer more info so that we may better direct to the best treatment method.

  • Asked by Matt from Mn

    Q
Why can't I use a ulv sprayer with bifen? Should a person use a resperator with this product?
    A
Bifen is not formulated to be used in any type of fogger, neither thermal or ULV. Using a product that is not meant to get broken down into that level of application, jeapordizes the quality of the product and its ability to perform appropriately, as well as can harm your fogger. Bifen should only be used in a unit that is a true sprayer. You would need to use a water based fogging concentrate in your ULV unit. You would not have to wear a respirator when spraying Bifen indoors or out but you could wear something similar to a painters mask to help protect the nose and mouth from any drift or back spray. If you were using an appropriate fogging concentrate in your ULV fogger in an indoor area you would want to use a respirator in those areas. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
I have been trying to kill springtails w/1oz/gal of BifenIT on my deck. Should this kill on contact?
I know I have to look for and remove sources of moisture. I have sprayed 3x today and each time I look they seem to have come back. I just want to make a dent in their population numbers for now. Does it take a while for the BifenIT to work?
    A
We only recommend applying Bifen IT as labeled, which would be once every 30-60days. Over application could cause the insects to become irritated and rapidly reproduce. Bifen IT will kill with in a matter of minutes.

    Q
How do you rid of Carpenter ants
I have some carpenter ants in some rotted wood on the Corner of my porch, what can I do to get rid if them?
    A
You could use phantom in that area and around the perimeter of your home 2-3 feet up and out. Phantom works well to eradicate carpenter ant colonies, because the active is transferred by the worker ants into the colony.

    Q
Have been using Bifen IT with good results for pests, but could you recommend something with a quick knockdown?
    A
The ExciteR Insecticide is specifically designed to be added to any insecticide you are already using to provide you with a much stronger and faster initial knock down, while the Bifen continues to give you the longer lasting residual. However, we may be able to give you a more accurate product recommendation if we know what pest in particular you are treating for and wanting a quicker knock down with. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Asked by Charlie from North Carolina
    06/19/2013
    Q
I recently purchased Bifen IT for mosquito control.
I plan to use a fogging attachment on my lawn blower to apply the product. Can you provide me the dilution ratio or application rate per 1,000 SQ FT?
    A
Bifen IT can only be applied in spray form when applying for insects. Hand pump and backpack sprayers, hose-end sprayers and motorized "mist blowers" like the Solo 451 can be used to apply the Bifen and similar insecticides. Bifen can not be used in any type of fogging equipment whether thermal/propane, ULV or fogging attachment. In any of the approved applicators, you would mix Bifen at the rate of 1 ounce per gallon of water to roughly every 1000 sq/ft. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
How often can Bifen IT be applied at the 1 fl oz per gallon (0.06%) rate?
Reading the label, it appears that it is no more than every 7 days.
    A

Bifen IT has a residual of 90 days indoors and 30 days outdoors. Repeat application should only take place if there are signs of renewed insect activity and must not exceed one application per 7 days.

Please view the product label for listed insects and more information.

  • Asked by Carla from Winnipeg, Manitoba
    06/16/2013
    Q
We are surrounded with forest full of mosquitos
Our house is surrounded by a many acres of forest filled with mosquitos. Is it worth buying this product - can we actually get some relief? And if so, what can we do or how we can go about achieving this?
    A
The Bifen IT would be an excellent option for mosquito control. As you know, with that heavy of a wooded area around you, you wont be able to completely eliminate the entire population, but you can certainly bring it down to a tolerable level when you can enjoy your yard again. We highly recommend if you want the most control out of this heavily mosquito populated area, mix NyGuard IGR with your first spray of Bifen IT. The NyGuard is birth control for the bugs in the area and will make a huge dent in knocking back the activity. By stopping the mosquito reproduction, you get a much better grip on the problem than just killing the ones that land on a surface treated with an insecticide. You will typically mix 1 ounce of Bifen IT and 4-8 ml of NyGuard IGR per gallon of water. Focus on the areas that are most dense in foliage and tend to stay the most moist and shaded. Spray the undersides of leaves of bushes and trees as these are prime breeding areas for the mosquitoes. The Bifen will last roughly 30 days outdoors and the NyGuard should last up to 5 months. If you feel the NyGuard is needed again before the 5 month period you are welcome to spray it again with the Bifen. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
