Bifen IT is labeled to treat for termites and lasts for about 5 years in the ground and works as a repellent, killing only those insects that come into contact with the treated area. If you are dealing with subterranean termites, you want to use a product that has a "transfer-kill" effect. Termidor SC or Taurus SC are great products to use to treat termites and prevent them. Termidor Foam can be used for active infestations only. All of the products are non-repellents and transfer back to the colony. Please see our Termite Control Page.
We would recommend Bifen IT as a great general insecticide. It is labeled for spiders, roaches, and over 75 other pests. It can be used indoors and outdoors. The residual is up to 90 days indoors and 30 days outdoors. Bifen IT can also be broadcast across your lawn, sprayed on trees, shrubs, flowers, etc with a hand pump sprayer. It cannot be sprayed on any type of edibles. You will mix 1 fl. oz. of Bifen IT per gallon of water.
It is not recommended to leave any type of chemical in areas where they could freeze or over heat because of the potential for the chemical to break down. According to the manufacturer, as long as the Bifen IT was only exposed to sub freezing temperatures for a short period of time and the product looks exactly the same as before it was exposed, it should be fine.
Bifen IT is labeled for springtails and should work well to help you get rid of them. It does not kill on contact. The amount of time it takes for a springtail to die after coming into contact with a treated area will depend on a number of factors such as how healthy the springtail is, what stage of life it is in, and how long it spends in contact with a treated surface. It could take anywhere from a couple of hours up to a full day. Also, keep in mind that if you are not treating the main nest, and only the satellite colony, you are only be temporarily fixing your problem. More will appear as they continue to migrate. Springtails are attracted to areas that are high in moisture so if there is a moisture issue this will need to be identified and addressed as well. Until the moisture is gone or the main nest is found and eliminated, you will have an ongoing battle with this pest. You may want to look over our Springtails Treatment Guide for more tips and information.
Bifen XTS is labeled for carpenter ants. Bifen XTS will eliminate carpenter ants that come into contact with treated surfaces. Termidor SC is the more popular choice for carpenter ant control because it is non-repellent, has a delayed reaction kill and has a transfer effect. This means that the ants cannot detect that an area has been sprayed and cannot avoid the treated area, as they walk over the area they pick small particles of Termidor SC up on their body and inadvertently carry back to the colony spreading it to other ants.
Yes, Bifen IT is labeled for grasshoppers. The mixing ratio is 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water.
A better option would be to use Bifen Granules in your lawn. This will last 2-3 months in the lawn around your home. This will be watered in to activate the product.
There are a few ways to keep the number of gnats down. You can invest in a misting system that periodically sprays a pyrethrin insecticide in your yard. This system is a lot like a sprinkler system. We do not carry the actual mister system but we do carry the insecticide that is used in it called Riptide. If you want to get something you can just spray you can try Talstar P. Gnats that land on the treated areas will be eliminated. Talstar P will not repel the gnats from the area nor will it kill the gnats that do not land on the treated areas.
There is not an expiration date printed on the Bifen IT bottle. This product will last for 3-5 years from the date of purchase if kept sealed and stored at room temperature.
Shaking the Bifen IT prior to mixing is not necessary unless the product has sat for a long period of time and you can see some separation or settling of the ingredients. If so, you can shake it until it goes back into emulsion and then use it.
Bifen IT is safe on house plants on the foliage. For fungus gnats you would be using as a soil drench to treat. The other option is to allow the soil to dry out completely as this will kill any larvae in the soil.
Yes, Bifen IT is labeled for silverfish and will do a great job helping to eliminate them. Be sure to spray in all of the cracks and crevices where silverfish are known to harbor for best results. You will mix 1 oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft. and it can be applied every 30 days on the outside of the structure and every 90 days to the indoor cracks and crevices. Keep in mind that these pests frequent humid areas such as bathrooms and stored paper goods like files and wallpaper, so non-chemical steps to correct those conditions will help eliminate this pest.
