Every fall here in the sonoran desert I reseed rye grass over my bermuda lawn for a nice looking cover during the cooler months. It used to take me months to get there since from the moment I seeded and soaked the ground the local birds, mostly doves, would literally swarm over the whole lawn digesting my hard work. I was about ready to just install a pool and say the heck with it. Since our local owl population does wonders for keeping everything from ground squirels at bay during the night I wanted to try this owl setup as a daytime predator. Now, three days after seeding the birds are staying away! What helps is the construction allows the owl to move in the wind and those wiley birds have not figured it out yet! I am so enamored with this bird I named it Ollie. Some years ago I sent a similar thing to a friar at a church in Jerusalem who had birds in his belfry & it worked for him too. Worth the cost that is for sure! Past years these birds ate that much in seed every year & now I will have a lush lawn in a month.

I have put out the spikes in one location and that has worked. Now they have moved to another location and it will take a lot of spikes to cover the area.
The Bird Barrier Rotating Owl Bird Deterrent (sd-owl2) is an option to use for keeping buzzards/vultures away. We did find a helpful article here as well.

He/she shows up every morning (6:45 - 7:00 am), pecking away at the eaves of our home. Our dog, which barks at the sound of the doorbell or a knock at the door, goes crazy thinking someone's at the door. What can I do? I don't want to harm "Woody", however, I'd love for him to leave! :)
Most of the time woodpeckers are attacking your home because it is finding food under your siding, or insects. Sometimes applying a liquid insecticide, like our Talstar product in the area where the bird is doing damage, will kill any pests behind the siding and therefore if there is no more food, the bird will go elsewhere. You can try other non-spraying methods by placing reflective tape in the area or a fake owl or other bird of prey to deter the woodpecker.
If I use this to deter hawks from yard, will it also scare away small birds from bird feeder in same yard?
