    Q
Will Contrac kill ants that have invaded the bait station?
Do I need to kill off the ants that have invaded my bait station or will the contrac kill them?
    A
Contrac will not kill ants. You can sprinkle a bait like the InTice 10 Perimeter Bait around the stations or Maxforce Complete Granular Bait to help with them.

    Q
If a dog ingest droppings from a rodent who ate Blox is ate risk of secondary poisoning?
    A

The risk of secondary poisoning with Contrac Blox is very minimal. A rodent only consumes a very small amount of bait at a time and passes it very quickly only keeping a smaller amount in their liver until they succumb to the effects of the bait. A dog would have to actually eat 20-30 rodents that have consumed the bait for it to have an effect. In most cases, well-fed domesticated animals will not actually eat a mouse or a rat that they come across. Instead, they will play with it, chew i,t and then leave it behind.

    Q
Cat eating mouse dropping or small crumbs left of Contrac after mouse left crumbs
I am worried my cat may have eaten some of the mouse droppings and we have noticed that there has been very small crumbs of contrac bait left in the are where the mice have obviously eaten the bait and carried a little out of the tamper proof box. the baits are installed properly - we have heard a lot of eating activity. Today we noticed some crumbs (very small) on the floor of the kitchen and we are worried the cat may have licked or eaten a few tiny crumbs
    A
Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide has a reduced risk of secondary poisoning. If you believe your pet consumed the bait, please take them to the vet for evaluation. They will be able to administer Vitamin K1 if necessary.

    Q
I must open the 0.88oz rodenticide place pacs or I put it just like this after the stove?
Last time when the exterminator come he just throw a bag behind the stove and freezer without opening
    A
It looks like you are inquiring about the Contrac Rodent Pellet Place Pacs Rodenticide rather than the Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide. It is not recommended or required to open the place packs such as Contrac Rodent Pellet Place Pacs Rodenticide. Gnawing and chewing paper, cardboards, etc is a natural behavior when rodents are in search of food or nesting supplies. Keep in mind that all baits should be placed inside of stations & not just thrown openly

    Q
Why Doesn't it seem to remediate my problem
I have had a MAJOR rodent infestation in my garage for years, and just recently my neighbor noticed she had them INSIDE the house, getting into pet food. Well she placed all her goods into rubbermaid bins, and I replaced 2×4's, filled voids, used caulking in the garage. I placed 12 bait stations between the 2 houses. EVERY day I am finding bright green poop, the same color of the contac blocks...they are living long enough to digest the product and poop it all over my garage...at first, I baited the whole garage with the blocks and TONS of green poop. I have only found 2 or 3 dead mice in the garden. They appeared to stop getting into the neighbors house, but I cant seem to keep them out of my garage. I have used glue boards, caught a few, then I actually had a mouse CHEW up half of an entire glue board!! I was awestruck! Do you have any advice on how to truly clean out these things?? I did set up an electronic mouse zapper with peanut butter as bait..
    A

While we typically tell folks not to bait indoors, it sounds like you will need to continue to do so. Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide is a great bait, but you may need something that has a faster knockdown. We would recommend Fastrac to wipe out the current population. Fastrac Blox offers a lethal dose of active ingredient bromethalin in a single feeding, with the first dead rodents appearing in one or two days after bait consumption. Please also take the time to read over our mouse guide to learn more.

    Q
Is it safe to use Contrac poison packs behind my oven? The have eaten it and got it inside my oven.
I’m worried that the Contrac shouldn’t be heated and it’s inside my stove top and I’m assuming the insulation too.
    A

Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide would not be used in the oven at all.  Itcan be used indoors but it is not recommended as they can die anywhere inside the home & you will not get rid of the smell till the body is found & removed. If they are inside your oven, you will need to take it apart to remove the body/bodies. Indoors we only recommend using snap traps & glue boards as it will hold the body till you can remove it

    Q
How long does the active ingredient stay active?
I have read the other Q and A about shelf life. I do have an older pail of Contract Bait. The rats are eating it with great enthusiasm, so it still seems to be attractive to them. Does the active ingredient stay effective?
    A

The active ingredient will work as long as the shelf life. The Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide contains food-based ingredients to attract the rodents which is why they will still possibly want to eat the product.

Vitamin k dosage if my dog ate some Contac bloc??
    A

Contrac Blox can be toxic to animals if enough is consumed, although an antidote, Vitamin K1 is readily available from your vet.  If you believe your pet consumed any amount of this product, it is important to contact your vet or pet poison control as soon as possible.

    Q
Will ground squirls and chipmunks eat it?
    A
Since squirrels are in the same family as rats/mice, it is possible the bait matrix in the Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide could be attractive to squirrels as well as chipmunks, however, this product is not labeled to control these creatures, so we do not recommend using it for them specifically.

    Q
Can Contrac BLOX kill skunks? We think they are getting into our bait boxes. Even taking the posts.
    A
Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide can kill a skunk if it eats enough, but it would have to eat a large amount. Also, if you make sure the bait is secured on the rods, and the station is secure, it should prevent the raccoons from being able to work the bait free from the rods.

  • Asked by Allan from Honolulu, Hi

    Q
Which rat product do you recommend?
I'm in Honolulu, HI and the neighbor attracts rats with an unkept yard, fruit droppings, and an outdoor shed they use storage that gives them a habitat. What product works the best and can you recommend it?
    A

Control may be tough given that the neighbor is providing them with everything they need to live including food and harborage. It is possible the rats may ignore bait since they have an alternate food source. The fastest working bait for a good wipeout is Fastrac. You could then use Contrac blox for maintenance.

    Q
Does Contrac blox make the rats extra thirsty?
    A

Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide would not release any type of fume or gas if it contacts water.  Water would just cause the product to be unattractive to rodents as it could mold and sour due to exposure. It is an anti-coagulant which means once the mice eat this product, they begin to bleed to death from the inside.  The mice first become sick, and then grow tired and weak and pass in their sleep.  It can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days depending on how much the mice have eaten.  They do not need water for the product to work. Rodents are attracted to areas of moisture/areas of water.

    Q
Can Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide or DeTour Gel for Rats be used to get rid of opossums roaming around?
    A

Unfortunately, neither the Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide or DeTour Gel for Rodents would be recommended to treat for opossums on the property. Contrac All Weather Blox are only labeled for Norway Rats, Roof Rats, House Mice, Meadow Voles and DeTour Gel for Rodents is intended for rats only, there is no documentation showing effectiveness of these products on other animals such as opossums.

  • Asked by Terry from Puyallup, Wa

    Q
Can Contrac be used around Fruit Trees? I have rats eating the fruit off my trees.
I have hung Contrac Blocks from several limbs on my fruit Trees to get rid of pesky Rats that are eating the Fruit. Is this safe for the Trees if some falls into the soil?
    A

Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide is required by law to only be used in tamper-resistant bait stations within 100 feet of structures and as directed on the product label.  It cannot be just hung/placed out in the open or around edible trees.  The fruit is going to attract the rats first as it is a known food source, to eliminate rats in the area it's really best to pick up any dropped fruit as often as possible to remove their food source.

  • Asked by Reggie from Benton Louisana
    03/04/2022
    Q
If Contrac All-Weather Blox Rodenticide gets wet, do the blocks put off a dangerous gas if being used in a confined room? Would it be harmful to breath for humans?
    A

Contrac is a block rodenticide that does not release any vapors, even when wet. We do want to advise that we do not recommend baiting for rodents indoors and would suggest using snaptraps or glueboards.

Rodenticides should always be used in tamper resistant bait stations to secure the rodent bait and protect the bait from weather elements as well as non target animals and children. Bait stations should be placed against the foundation of the home every 10-15 ft.
