Amazing Product if you know how to use!

    By Christian on 12/27/2014

I'm a pest control operator and have used Detour on squirrels and has worked every time. Basically it has to be applied correctly if it's on a non porous surface you must use some type of barrier. Simply wrap a duct tape around the branch where the squirrel is climbing and apply a bead of Detour Gel around the duct tape and spread with a putty knife. On a brick wall apply silicone gel and spread to create a barrier and apply Detour Gel on top and spread with putty knife.

So far so good against squirrels

    By Collin on 02/21/2013

    Verified Purchase

After having blocked off re-entry via a one way trap and placing wire mesh all around the immediate area, we placed DeTour on other close by potential entry places. They can't enter their old way and it must be awfully bothersome to create a new entry. The squirrels are not happy, and they are NOT inside anymore, either.

    No help

    By Anonymous on 06/09/2013

    Verified Purchase

Used this product to try to keep ground squirrels off my 8 fruit trees. Placed a thick coating on limbs which squirrels needed to climb to reach fruit. Did not deter squirrels at all. They appeared to walk right through the product and feast on the apricots and peaches. No pies this year!

    Does not work

    By Mike on 07/18/2014

    Verified Purchase

Does not work, yet it leaves dirty residue all over your house. This product was extremely disappointing.

    Expert ResponseExpert response:
We're sorry that the product was a disappointment let us send you a video on how to use the product. The way this product works is you want to place it where the rats have the best chances to get the gel on their feet. The DETOUR GEL needs to be applied in areas that cannot be touch by children or pets. So usually those are areas that a non-porous tile can be used. It's not supposed to be applied all over your house its not like spaying an insect repellant all-around your home. Place the product in the area where you see the rat activity and urine trails or feces trail. The rats have poor vision and usually like to run along the walls. Its also recommended to place a little bit of peanut butter on the middle of a tile. And then to the press the peanut butter firmly on to the tile.

Sort Questions
Q
Is DeTour safe around dogs & cats?
A
DeTour is a bio repellent and contains an ingredient that irritates rodents and makes them exit the building or home, but does not harm them.  If your pet got into this product, it would not harm them, but it would also irritate them just like the rodents.  You should only place this product where your pets cannot access it, but rodents can.  Places such as behind appliances, in wall voids, entry points (small holes) where rodents enter, etc.

Q
How long does an application of DeTour For Rodents Bio-Repellent last?

Does application need continuous line or can it b intermittent in order to create a barrier? Indoor and Outdoor?

A
When DeTour For Rodents Bio-Repellent is applied according to the product label, rodents will be repelled for at least 30 days or longer if the product is left intact and undisturbed. Reapplications will be required on an as needed basis in areas with a large rodent infestation or where the product has been disturbed or removed by rodent contact. This means that you should check application areas every few weeks to make sure it is still on the surface. Do not to apply DeTour For Rodents Bio-Repellent directly to porous surfaces as it can be absorbed by the surface which can lower the overall efficacy of the product. DeTour can be applied indoors and outdoors directly around areas where rodent activity has been noticed and any area where rodents can gain access to a structure (doorways, windows, vents, utility lines). You can see the full DeTour instructions by reading the product label.

A
DeTour For Rodents Bio-Repellent will bond like silicone. The thicker it is applied the longer and more effective the product will last on the surface to which it is applied.

Q
Will Detour For Rodents And Insects work on a fence?

We have a privacy fence around our yard and the squirrels go up and down the fence so I'm wondering if it would work if applied around the top of the fence and how long it would last there.

A
Detour For Rodents And Insects will work if applied to the fence post.  DeTour is very durable and will last indefinitely in undisturbed areas such as wall voids or under shelves in dry areas. In High traffic areas reapplication is needed.
