It seems a bit late to treat with Dimension 2EW Herbicide in your area as the weeds are growing and temperatures are above 55 degrees. It can be tank-mixed with post-emergent herbicides. We do recommend applying pre-emergents prior to weed germination and post-emergent herbicides when the weeds are actively growing. If tank mixing, please perform a jar test first and test a small area prior to treating larger areas. Always refer to the most restricted of the two tank mix instructions on labels. We recommend you consult with your county cooperative extension office Master Gardener for specific timing in your area in the spring and fall to apply preemergents such as Dimension 2EW for more effective weed prevention.
In Arizona, you would generally make two applications of Dimension 2EW Herbicide 5 to 10 weeks apart. We would recommend the Program 2 or 3 rates of 1 oz per 1,000 sq ft and then 1.5 oz per 1,000 sq ft, or 2 applications of 1 oz per 1,000 sq ft each, according to the product label. Be sure that you immediately water-in the application with a high volume of water any time there is a barrier like gravel over the ground. This will help get more of the active ingredient down to the soil so that it is not just absorbed into the rocks before it can reach the dirt. (Since this product is still intended to be used around turfgrass and ornamentals, you may not get the same results on a stone area.) At the 1 oz,1000 sq ft rate, you would use 0.22 oz of Dimension 2EW in 1 gallon in your sprayer to cover 220 sq ft. So if you are treating 30,000 sq. ft. on the low end you would add 9.9 ounces to your 40 gallons of water, or on the high end you would add 21.9 ounces to your 40 gallons of water.

According to the manufacturer's product label, a 3 month wait time for seeding a treated area with Dimension 2EW Herbicide is advised. Although you could till the treated area in attempts to break the preemergent barrier, it is still likely that the germination of the tall fescue seedlings will still be somewhat disrupted, causing less than ideal results.
Dimension 2EW should be safe to use around chickens as long as you are following the instructions on the product label. You would need to keep them out of the area until it dries, typically for 3-4 hours.
