  • Asked by James from Liberty N.c.
    04/10/2014
    Q
How do I mix Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide to kill duckweed in a small pond?
    A
For duckweed control, apply Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide at 1-2 gallons/A + 32 oz./A of surfactant in at least 100 gallons of water. Treatment of dense weed areas may result in oxygen loss from decomposition of dead weeds. This loss of oxygen may cause fish suffocation. Therefore, treat only 1/3 to ½ of the water body area at one time and wait 14
days between treatments. Please let us know if you have any other questions, or give us a call at 1-866-581-7378 since many times with these types of applications, a customer service representative can better explain application techniques.

    Q
How much Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide do I need? What should be the water temperature? Do I have to wait till spring?
I live in NY and it is late September. The lake weeds are so thick in our bay. 125 feet x 100 feet. half is 3-4 feet deep half is 5-8 feet deep.
    A

Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide should be applied at a rate of 1 to 2 gallons per surface area of water. For a 1 acre lake or pond - spray 1 to 2 gallons of Diquat into the lake. If using a hand sprayer, for example, 2 gallon sprayer, put 1 gallon of water and 1 gallon of Diquat into the sprayer and spray the contents over an acre of the area. Per the product label, it should be applied in the spring or early summer when the weeds are actively growing  and when water temperatures have reached or exceeded 50 degrees.

  • Asked by Richard from Middletown Springs Vt
    03/23/2013
    Q
Will Diquat kill horsetail growing in a pond?
    A

Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide will kill horsetail. Horsetail is very hard to control and it can be tough to properly penetrate through the plant. When using the Diquat you will need to mix it at the rate of 2-4oz per gallon of water and mix it with an 80% Non ionic surfactant. You will need 2 teaspoons of the surfactant per gallon of water. This combination should eliminate the horsetail from your pond.

  • Asked by Jim from Monument, Co
    09/10/2016
    Q
Can Diquat be mixed with Glyphosate 50% to create a faster acting mix?
If so, what amount would I add per gal?
    A

Per the product label for Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide it does state that difficult weeds (such as perennial or deeply-rooted weeds) can often be controlled by tank mixing Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide with other systemic-type herbicides. Refer to other product labels for specific application directions.

For Diquat, the rate to use would be based on whatever the target weed you are trying to treat is, typically 1-2 Gallons per surface Acre.

  • Asked by Ron from Williamsburg, Va
    07/08/2013
    Q
How do I apply Diquat to the hydrilla in my canal? Do I mix it with water in the sprayer?
    A
For treating for Hydrilla, which is a submersed water weed:
To control submersed weeds, apply Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide in water at 0.5-2.0 gallons per surface acre (per 4 foot water depth). For severe weed infestations, use the 2.0 gallon per surface acre rate. For best results, re-treat as necessary on 14-21 day intervals. The table below shows how many gallons of Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide to apply per surface acre based on water depth.
Gallons of Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide per Surface Acre
                                         Average Water Depth
                                 1ft          2ft          3ft         4ft
    1 gallon/acre rate   0.25gal    0.50gal    0.75gal    1.0gal
    2 gallon/acre rate   0.50gal    1.0 gal     1.5gal     2.0gal
    Subsurface Applications:
Where the submersed weed growth, especially Hydrilla, has reached the water
surface, apply either in a water carrier or an invert emulsion through boom trailing hoses carrying nozzle tips to apply the dilute spray below the water surface to insure adequate coverage.

  • Asked by Paul from Cairo, Ga.

    Q
Will Diquat kill watermeal and duckweed?
    A

Diquat is labeled for duckweed but not for watermeal.  Watermeal is a very difficult weed to get rid of and the only product we are aware of that will control watermeal is Sonar Aquatic Herbicide. You may want to reach out to your local cooperative extension office to see if they have any recommendations on what has worked for others in your area.

  • Asked by Stephen from Ia
    05/06/2016
    Q
Does Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide kill watermil?
I have watermeal that will eventually cover the entire surface of my .5 acre pond. Will this work and if so how much do I need?
    A

Yes, Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide is labeled for watermil, as well as other weeds. It is recommended that you treat your pond in sections as to not deplete the oxygen in the water. The amount of product will depend on the depth of your pond. If your pond is 1 foot deep, you will use 0.25 gallons. If your pond is 2 feet deep, you will use 0.5 gallons. If the pond is 3 feet deep, you will use 0.75 gallons. For a 4 foot deep pond, you will use 1 gallon of products. This is per acre. Since you are treating 1/2 an acre, you will use 1/2 the amount of product per the depth of the pond.

  • Asked by Russell from Summerland Key, Fl 33042
    06/17/2014
    Q
How much Diquat do I mix with 1 gallon of 1.5% Roundup solution to get 1 hour rainfall protection??
I have a 2.5 gallon of older Roundup concentrate 41% and would like to make the application rain proof by adding Diquat as thunderstorms come up over night without much notice.
    A
RoundUp products are generally rainfast within a few hours so that is not really an amount of Diquat that we could recommend to make it rainfast any quicker.  The amount of Diquat you use per gallon of water is dependent on what you are treating for.
