Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide should be applied at a rate of 1 to 2 gallons per surface area of water. For a 1 acre lake or pond - spray 1 to 2 gallons of Diquat into the lake. If using a hand sprayer, for example, 2 gallon sprayer, put 1 gallon of water and 1 gallon of Diquat into the sprayer and spray the contents over an acre of the area. Per the product label, it should be applied in the spring or early summer when the weeds are actively growing and when water temperatures have reached or exceeded 50 degrees.

Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide will kill horsetail. Horsetail is very hard to control and it can be tough to properly penetrate through the plant. When using the Diquat you will need to mix it at the rate of 2-4oz per gallon of water and mix it with an 80% Non ionic surfactant. You will need 2 teaspoons of the surfactant per gallon of water. This combination should eliminate the horsetail from your pond.
Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide can be mixed in with Roundup to promote a quicker burn down. It may be easier just to use Roundup Quikpro which already has Diquat in it.

Diquat is labeled for duckweed but not for watermeal. Watermeal is a very difficult weed to get rid of and the only product we are aware of that will control watermeal is Sonar Aquatic Herbicide. Yes, Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide is labeled for watermil, as well as other weeds. It is recommended that you treat your pond in sections as to not deplete the oxygen in the water. The amount of product will depend on the depth of your pond. If your pond is 1 foot deep, you will use 0.25 gallons. If your pond is 2 feet deep, you will use 0.5 gallons. If the pond is 3 feet deep, you will use 0.75 gallons. For a 4 foot deep pond, you will use 1 gallon of products. This is per acre. Since you are treating 1/2 an acre, you will use 1/2 the amount of product per the depth of the pond.
The best temperature range to apply Diquat Water Weed and Landscape Herbicide is when temperatures are between 65-85 degrees. Either morning or evening would be fine.
Diquat is not labeled for Aqua plant or Spike Rush. Sonar RTS is labeled to treat for Spike Rush. This Ready-To-Use liquid formula contains Fluridone which is very effective in controlling unwanted aquatic vegetation including duckweed.
