    Q
Freak rain shower after Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer application
Applied Drive XLR8 and 4 hours later Raines for about 5 minutes. Do I reapply or am I good?
    A

As long as the application of Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer had time to completely dry before rainfall it should be fine. If it was a heavy rainfall to cause puddling or runoff, we would recommend a follow up application.

    Q
How often does Drive XLR8 Herbicide need to be applied for crabgrass control? Is it recommended to be used at the beginning and end of the season for example?
    A

Drive XLR8 should be applied when crabgrass is actively growing and temperatures are between 65 and 85 degrees. For best results, a methylated seed oil surfactant ike Duo Stick should be tank mixed for better coverage and faster burndown of weeds. The product label states for consistent results, make Drive XLR8 application to newly germinated, to 1-tiller crabgrass, and when crabgrass has matured to 5 tillers or greater. Repeat application may be needed 21 days following the initial application.

  • Asked by Rick from Queenstown, Md
    10/18/2022
    Q
Can I add Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer and Turflon Ester in same 15 gallon tank?
    A

The most important factor when planning to tank mix various herbicides is referring to all manufacturer's product labels for tank mixing restrictions.  In this case, because Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer requires the use of an MSO Surfactant like Prime Source Duo Stick Select in order to be effective, it would not be recommended due to the fact that most Turflon Ester product labels advise not adding a surfactant for lawn treatments as this can cause damage to turf grass.

    Q
Can Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer be used on my centipede and zenith zoysia lawn to kill crabgrass?
Centipede is coming up from seeding and the Zenith Zoysia sod was laid down in April of 2022.
    A

Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer is not labeled to be used on Centipede lawns therefore would injure the new centipede seedlings that are germinating and growing. You will want to wait until after the 2nd mowing of the newly seeded Centipede before making any post emergent applications.

An alternative product recommendation would be Blindside Herbicide WDG as it is safe for Centipede and Zoysia turfgrasses and labeled for crabgrass and other grassy and broadleaf weeds.

Apply at the mix rate of 0.15 - 0.23 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. (6.5 - 10 oz. per acre) when temperatures are between 65 to 85 degrees.

How long after applying Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer do I need to wait to overseed?
    A

Timing intervals can vary for reseeding/overseeding with applications of Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer will depend on your turfgrass type.

Please refer to the Seeding/Overseeding Timing Chart on page 10 of the product label for intervals to overseed for your application.

    Q
Will Drive XLR8 Herbicide kill bentgrass in a bermuda lawn?
    A

Colonial Bentgrass and Seaside Bentgrass are listed as suseptible to applications of Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer while Creeping Bentgrass is listed as moderately tolerant to the herbicide.

Refer to Table 1 and Table 2 on page 8 of the product label for addtional information. The addition of a Methylated Seed Oil Surfactant is needed to use with Drive XLR8 for best results.

The best treatment to eliminate bentgrass in bermuda lawns would be to spot treat with a non-selective herbicide such as Roundup QuikPro and then reseed/resod after 2 weeks.

    Q
What is the application rate for Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer if using a 20 gallon sprayer to treat 1.5 acres?
    https://www.domyown.com/prime-source-duo-stick-p-12239.html
    A

Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer is applied at 64 fl oz per acre in atleast 20 gallons of water per acre (1.45 fl oz in 0.5 gallons of water per 1000 sq ft) with a low pressure sprayer at 20 to 40 psi. A methlyated seed oil surfactant such as Duo Stick is needed for best results.

For treating 1.5 acres (65,340 sq ft), it will take a total of 96 fl oz of Drive XLR8 + 46.5 tbsps of a MSO Surfactant (1.5 tbsp per gallon of water) using no less than 31 gallons of water.

*Using 0.5 gallons water per 1000 sq ft is the minimum water volume recommended for adequate distribution of the herbicide. Water is only acting as the carrier therefore weather it takes 0.5 gallons or 1.5 gallons of water to cover 1000 sq ft does not matter, as long as you evenly and thoroughly cover the area.

    Q
Can Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer be applied simultaneously with Speedzone?
Drive XLR8 requires the use of a MSO as a surfactant while Speedzone has the surfactant
    A

Speedzone EW Herbicide does not contain a surfactant in the formulation and is not recommended by the manufacturer. Since Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer does require the use of the MSO surfactant, two separate applications would need to be done.

    Q
Do you have anything to control torpedo grass in St Augustine?
    A
We apologize, but we are not aware of a product that will treat torpedo grass and not harm St. Augustine turf.  You may want to consider spot treating with RoundUp and then reseed/resod the treated areas.

    Q
I use a garden hose chemical sprayer. What would be the appropriate setting on my canister?
    A

When applying herbicides, including Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer, it is not recommended to use a hose-end sprayer. It is better to use a hand pump or backpack sprayer to ensure the most accurate application.
