    Q
Can EcoVia EC safely be used in the home and room containing parrots, macaws, parakeets and finches?
I have a home with many kinds of animals that's in the woods area on a farm so we keep getting bug infestations. The home cannot be sealed. Caged birds are very sensitive to toxins so I need something extremely safe for them.
    A

We always advise consumers with birds to consult with their veterinarian prior to using any chemical in their homes so they can determine what is safe for the birds. You can view the SDS for this product here.

    Q
Will EcoVia EC harm or kill dragonflies?
I need to treat for extreme case of mosquitoes in Northern MN and do not want to kill the dragonflies that eat our mosquitoes. Natural defense but this year there are way too many mosquitoes and the dragonflies just started to hatch
    A

Unfortunately there isn't a way to only kill one species and not the other and broadcast treat an area they may both cohabitate in. However, most insects have times of day they are most active and least active, so spraying during the least active times for dragonflies can give more time for the product to dry and potentially not impact them as much the following days. There is just no way to guarantee they wont be impacted to some extent when using an insecticide whether all natural, orgranic, or otherwise if it carries a residual.

    Q
How does EcoVia EC compare to Bifen IT for mosquito control and a general foundation pest control treatment?
Do both products offer similar results? It is my understanding that I would have to apply EcoVia EC more frequently. I like the fact that EcoVia EC is a "Green" product. In addition, I live next to a drainage ditch that has some dense vegetation. It sounds like I can spray this vegetation with the EcoVia EC which is a nice benefit (if it works well).
    A

Both EcoVia EC and Bifen IT are great for general pest control, both can be sprayed on ornamentals and vegetation (as long as it is not edible vegetation), and both products are labeled to control mosquitoes. It is highly recommended to add an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) to stop their cycles to help prevent future infestations as well.

Please take a moment to review our How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes Guide for more information and helpful tips on eradicating this pest.

EcoVia EC has a 3-4 week residual per the manufacturer. The Bifen IT has a residual of up to 30 days outdoors and up to 90 days indoors.

The Bifen and Ecovia are both labeled for many of the same pests, however, the Bifen is labeled to target more insects. For example, the Bifen is labeled to control up to 75 different insects including carpet beetles whereas the Ecovia is not. Both products are effective as long as you are following the instructions on the product label.

Ecovia is labeled as a livestock spray for breeding stock and recreational animals (Cattle, Swine, Horses, Goats and Sheep) as well. The Bifen IT is not labeled for this same use. Please be sure to review the product labels for more information and complete application instructions.

Please review the Bifen IT Product Label and the EcoVia EC Product Label for more information.

    Q
How effective would this be as a perimeter treatment?
I'm currently using Alpine WSG as an exterior treatment every 30-45 days. How would this product compare to Alpine WSG in terms of efficiency? Will it actually work?
    A
EcoVia EC is a very good product to treat general insects. It is made with botanical oils and can safely to applied  both indoors and outdoors.  You will mix 1-4 fl. oz. per gallon of water. The product will likely need to be reapplied for maintenance every 21 days.  Please see the label for full application instructions.

    Q
Can EcoVia EC be applied with a Ryobi Fogger?
Can this product be used in a Ryobi Fogger?
    A

EcoVia EC can be use on a sprayer, backpack sprayer or mist blower, power sprayer, mechanical aerosol misting/fogging equipment, (ULV or thermal), automated spray systems or other conventional application equipment. We do not carry Ryobi equipment but most of the Ryobi machines state in the manual that they do not allow for use of professional grade products which is what we mainly carry, including the EcoVia EC. You would need to contact the Ryobi manufacturer for the best advice. The only option we have that might be an option is the Mosquito Beater.  Which is a consumer grade product.

Is EcoVia EC safe for bees, ladybugs, and praying manthis insects?
    A

Yes, EcoVia EC can be toxic to honey bees that may come in contact with a treated surface. To minimize the risk of harm to bees, it is recommended to apply in the early morning or in the evening when bees are least active, and to avoid applying to any plants that are actively blooming.

    Q
Does EcoVia EC stain hard surfaces such as pavers or concrete?
    A

EcoVia EC should not damage or stain the concrete or pavers when used as directed on the product label, and we have not heard complaints of this happening. The product should dry clear, but we would suggest testing a small, inconspicuous area first to be sure.

I have various fruit trees (orange, lemon, grape, peach, fig) and would like to control for mosquitoes. Is this safe to spray on fruit trees?

    Q
    Chicken Coop
Can I use this product inside a chicken coop safely? I have a ton of carpenter ants that I can't get rid of. Should I use this eco product or an eco bait? Will either product hurt my chickens?
    A

The EcoVia EC is labeled for use in poultry houses and around the roosting areas for a variety of insect species around the chickens. Per the Product Label: " Mix 2-3 oz per gallon of water. Apply 1 gallon of solution per 500 - 1000 sq. ft. Thoroughly cover walls, ceilings or other areas where pests rest or congregate in dairy barns, horse barns, poultry houses, swine buildings, livestock sheds, and other farm buildings."

    Q
Do I have to dilute theEcoVia EC with oil if sprayed with the ULV fogger like Vectorfog C100?
I am planning to spray EcoVia EC with a ULV fogger like Vectorfog C100 to sray tall trees and bushes. But the instruction of the EcoVia EC says "For ULV (cold fog) and thermal fog applications, apply undiluted or dilute with light mineral oil or another suitable non-phytotoxic diluent". C100 has a 1-gallon tank and a flow rate of 8-16 GPH, which means it can finish a tank in less than 7.5 min. I just cannot image how much EcoVia EC I would need to treat the area if undiluted or how much oil to spread on trees if diluted. Can we just use water? What is the different between the application with water and oil diluent? Thank you for your help.
    A

In a cold/ULV Fogger, you can dilute concentrates like EcoVia EC with either water or with oil. Typically you would dilute with water whenever possible outdoors to reduce the risk of phytotoxicity on the plants you are treating. Per the product label, use up to 0.25-1.5 fl oz of product per 1000 sq ft of ground surface area, or up to 10-60 fl oz per acre. It sounds like you will likely need to dilute the product to apply at this rate if your fogger is applying product that quickly.

    Q
    OK for Vinyl Siding?
Is this product okay to use on vinyl siding? Some wording on the product label causes me concern about using it on vinyl siding.
    A
It would not be recommended to spray EcoVia EC on vinyl siding because it is platic which is a sensitive surface that may be stained by oil based products. If overspray lands on any sensitive surfaces (particularly plastics), simply rinse with water and wipe off with a clean cloth.

    Q
What is the best product with repellant/residual properties to keep wasps away?
I'm wondering if there is a residual spray that is safe around pets that I can use on the exterior that will act as a repellant for wasps and carpenter bees. Anything that has a few months residual strength? I live in CT and noticed many products are not allowed here.
    A
You can use EcoVia EC to treat around the structure for a wide variety of flying and crawling insects. You will need to treat surfaces where you have seen activity for carpenter bees. You can apply this product quarterly for general maintenance or repeat treatments more frequently if needed. EcoVia EC will not, however, provide instant knockdown of flying, stinging insects. For this application or for treatment of existing nests, you should use a wasp spray such as Wasp-X which can spray over 20 feet and has a unique foaming action to cover nests.

    Q
Does EcoVia EC need mixed with anything to be used in a residential thermal fogger?
    A

EcoVia EC can be applied undiluted or diluted with a light mineral oil or another suitable non-phytotoxic diluent per the product label. Per the instructions on the label, use up to 0.25-1.5 fl oz of product per 1000 sq ft of ground surface area, or up to 10-60 fl oz per acre. Use higher rates for heavy vegetation and/or when target insect populations are high. For best results, apply when insects are most active and when conditions are conducive to keeping the fog close to the ground.
