Product Overview

Gentrol IGR Concentrate travels deep into wall cavities, cracks and crevices, reaching the stored product pests that other treatments miss. Hydroprene, the active ingredient, prevents stored product pest larvae from progressing to the pupal stage of development, so the larvae die before they become breeding adults and future infestations.  If you are using Gentrol IGR as a fogging application, please note that for fogging, it is labeled for use in food handling areas and other indoor applications ONLY.

Gentrol Concentrate should never be used to eliminate a roach population by itself.

* Gentrol will not kill roaches...it only prevents them from reproducing.

* Use roach baits and roach sprays in conjunction with Gentrol Concentrate. For smaller areas like apartments we would recommend the Gentrol Aerosol - IGR.

How Gentrol IGR Concentrate Works

Gentrol IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) Concentrate travels deep into wall cavities, cracks and crevices, reaching the stored product pests, drain and fruit flies, and fleas, that other treatments miss. Hydroprene, the active ingredient, prevents pest larvae from progressing to the pupal stage of development, so the larvae die before they become breeding adults – and future infestations. Cockroaches and bedbugs exposed to Gentrol will become adults incapable of reproducing.

Stored product pests encounter hydroprene the same way they encounter insecticides – traveling on or rubbing against a treated surface. Gentrol IGR Concentrate spreads out from its point of application, creating a much larger treated surface than conventional insecticides. Gentrol Concentrate should always be diluted with water when applying with a sprayer. Because Gentrol is an insect growth regulator and not an adulticide, it should not be used as the sole protection for target pests.

Target Pests

Roaches, drain flies, fruit flies, bed bugs, stored product pests

PESTS CONTROLLED WITH GENTROL IGR CONCENTRATE: Cockroaches, drain flies, fruit flies, bed bugs, stored product pests (including Indian meal moths, rice moths, tobacco moths, red flour beetles, confused flour beetles, lesser grain borers, merchant grain beetles, sawtooth grain beetles, warehouse beetles, cigarette beetles, and Dermestid beetles)

Target Uses

GENTROL, an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR), is a synthetic juvenile hormone "look-alike" which disrupts the normal growth development of bedbugs and roaches. Bedbugs and roaches exposed to the GENTROL IGR Concentrate will become adults incapable of reproducing, thus ending the cycle of an infestation. Use GENTROL IGR Concentrate in apartment buildings, hospitals, hotels/motels, residential homes, nursing homes, and marine vessels. Because of its broad labeling, Gentrol can be used in many sensitive areas where other sprays cannot. Gentrol is an excellent accompaniment to baiting programs for cockroaches, and it can be tank mixed with insecticides for treating bed bugs, roaches, or other listed pests.

Whether it’s used as a fogging agent or general surface spray, the long-term control of Gentrol IGR Concentrate is ideal for these sites:

  • Warehouses
  • Food Handling Establishments
  • Schools
  • Hospitals
  • Nursing Homes
  • Aircraft, Ships, Trains, Trucks

ACTIVE INGREDIENT: S-Hydroprene 9.0%

Gentrol IGR Concentrate Application Instructions

Use Gentrol as a general surface spray, fogging, spot, or crack and crevice application. Mix Gentrol Concentrate with diluent and apply with spray or hand application equipment, such hand-pressurized or power-operated sprayers capable of delivering general surface spray, fogging (space spray/mist), spot, crack and crevice spray applications, or with a paint brush, roller, or similar device.

Mix GENTROL IGR Concentrate with water and apply with spray or hand application equipment, such as hand pressurized or power-operated sprayers capable of delivering spot or crack and crevice spray applications.

Dilution Preparation:
For spot and crack and crevice preparations:

Use 1 ounce of GENTROL IGR Concentrate to 1 gallon of water. Partially fill the mixing container with water, add the GENTROL IGR Concentrate, shake or stir, and fill to final volume. Use diluted solution within 48 hours of mixing. Shake or stir before each use.

Spot and Crack and Crevice Applications:

Apply GENTROL IGR Concentrate diluted spray solution using either a pressurized spray system capable of delivering a pinpoint or variable spray pattern or a device capable of coating evenly. Make crack and crevice applications directly to areas such as crevices, baseboards, floors, ceilings, or walls. Make spot treatments to areas such as storage areas, closets, doors, and behind and under furniture and beds. To treat bedbugs, apply to harborage points mentioned above; in addition, under beds, bottom side of box springs (do not treat linens and mattresses), under and behind night stands, to points where carpet and wall meet, cracks in cove base, molding, and other areas where bedbugs harborage.

Gentrol Concentrate may be tank mixed with an adulticide currently registered for use, unless the product label prohibits such use.

Gentrol Concentrate may also be converted to a foam. For best results, use the higher amount of the foaming agent rate range.

Always read the product label completely before use.

Each 1 oz. bottle yields 1 gallon of finished solution. Each 16 oz. bottle yields 16 gallons of finished solution. 1 gallon of finished solution covers 1,500 square feet of surface area.

Standard Application Dilution rates / Mixing Ratios for Gentrol IGR Concentrate

  • 1 fl. oz. (30 mL)/gal. of water – surface, spot, or crack and crevice applications
  • 1 fl. oz. (30 mL) per 12,000 cubic feet – fogging applications

Gentrol IGR Concentrate is for use in the following areas:

Apartment buildings, bakeries, bottling facilities, breweries, boiler rooms, cafeterias, candy plants, grocery stores, day care centers, hospitals, residential homes, hotel/motels, office buildings, kitchens, laboratories, cereal processing facilities, manufacturing plants, mausoleums, meat and produce canneries, nursing homes, restaurants, schools, locker rooms, stores, taverns, warehouses, as well as various modes of transportation such as aircraft, buses, trucks, trailers, rail cars, and marine vessels; food and non-food areas of food-handling establishments.

Indoors

Fogging Application: Apply Gentrol Concentrate as a fog or an ultra-low volume (ULV) mist with equipment such as ULV, mechanical misting sprayers, aerosol generators, or thermal foggers to achieve uniform coverage. Apply at a rate of 1 ounce Gentrol per 12,000 cubic feet. Use water or oil as diluent, depending on the type of equipment used. Fogging applications are best for larger facilities including warehouses. Close room or warehouse and shut off all ventilation systems. Apply the product in the air and direct mist toward all areas that may harbor target pests. After treatment, leave the room closed for 30 minutes or longer as recommended by the equipment manufacturer or the labels of other products applied in tank mixing. Do not remain in treated area; ventilate before reentry.

Bed Bugs: Apply to harborage points mentioned above; in addition, under beds, bottom side of box springs (do not treat linens and mattresses), under and behind night stands, to points where carpet and wall meet, cracks in cove base, molding, and other areas where bedbugs harborage. Retreat at 14 days for heavy infestations. Gentrol cannot be used as the sole treatment for bed bugs.

Drain Flies, Fruit Flies: Apply Gentrol to areas of fly breeding. For drains, apply product into and around the downspout and catch basin area. Coat these areas thoroughly as fly larvae develop in the scum buildup on the sides of drain pipes. Repeat applications at 2 to 4 week intervals depending upon the severity of infestation.

Pantry/Cabinets, Small Food Storage Areas: Apply as a surface spray, crack and crevice spray, or spot treatment to pantry and cupboard shelves or other areas where food is stored. Prior to spraying, remove all food containers and foodstuffs. Do not replace food containers or foodstuffs until spray has dried. Do not store food in open containers in treated pantries. Destroy any infested food packages to ensure proper control.

Outdoors

Gentrol IGR Concentrate is not intended for outdoor use because it is not photostable (the product breaks down quickly in direct sunlight).

    This product works! Thank Goodness!

    By Eve on 05/16/2010

    Verified Purchase

My sons roommate picked up an old sofa-bed for his room. It had bedbugs! My sons house became infected before anyone knew what happened. No one in our family had ANY experience with these horrible creatures! He ordered from your company and was pleased. Then, the little buggers found their way into MY house, probably because while he was treating his house, we kept our granddaughter with us, of course bringing along some clothes and toys! They really got after my husband because he has a very warm body. We ordered your product and are very pleased! We haven't seen any bugs in 3 weeks, I have one more spraying to do. You should spray at least 3 times, 10 days apart. The odor was affordable, the directions good, and best of all, IT WORKS!

Gentrol IGR Genetic Warfare for Roaches :)

    By Tim on 05/02/2012

    Verified Purchase

I sprayed this down by itself a few days before performing my German Roach Normandy beach mission and I felt like I was on a secret mission to disrupt the worldwide roach population. This Gentrol with MaxForce FC Magnum bait and some Demon WP completely decimated a 20 year German roach problem in South Texas. All three totally killed every bug in the house, haven't seen or heard a peep for over two weeks and for the first time ever, I can say that they are gone with absolute certainty. Still got a spray bottle left in reserve just in case they ever try a counterattack. Thanks for an amazing product and very fast shipping.

    This works!

    By J. on 05/22/2011

A few years back our Queens, NY apartment became infested with bed bugs. The landlord called an exterminator, who treated our apartment about four times. One of the exterminators (then sent a different one each time) told me that the bug spray mix wasn't really meant to get rid of bed bugs permanently, just put them into temporary hiding. After the four or so treatments, we still had the bedbugs. I decided on this product after reading the literature that was available then. It turned out to work. After one treatment of this, the bed bugs slowed down, and after two they disappeared. I think I did this for a total of three times, and we never saw the bugs again. I had purchased the whole box and had most of it left after treating my apartment three times. Needless to say, the entire box of the Gentrol IGR cost less than a single visit from a NYC exterminator. As an added benefit, Gentrol IGR also fubars roaches. I now use it on my own commercial property for roach control, and for me, it is more effective (by killing the bugs and by cost) than hiring the bug company.

    It's just works!

    By Kahina on 10/22/2010

This stuff works! I'm soooo glad to have found your website and to have found something that actually works immediately. I just moved into an apartment the 1st of this month where it unfortunately had roaches. I couldn't sleep when I noticed the apartment had them; I'd never lived with these ungodly creatures before. I purchased this product along with the Drione and they did the trick! I think my landlord is amazed but he won't let on. He's been paying an exterminator to visit twice a month. This stuff works, the exterminator is a waste of his money. It's been three weeks and I'm more than happy to say that I can rest peacefully.

    The Best.

    By Chris on 07/04/2010

I used this stuff to get rid of bedbugs -- it's the only thing that really worked because it's a genetic disruptor and breaks their life cycle. It had the added bonus of breaking the life cycle of every other insect also -- so I haven't seen a roach or a fly ever since I used it. What an awesome product.

Q
Will Gentrol IGR work on fleas?

For outdoor use?

A
Gentrol IGR is not labeled for fleas and is not recommend for use outside.  For outdoor flea control you should use our outdoor flea kit, which comes with an IGR that is labeled for fleas.  IGR's do not kill adult fleas though, they only prevent immature fleas from maturing.  The outdoor kit also comes with a product to mix with the IGR that actually does the killing of adult fleas.

Q
How often can I spray Gentrol for carpet infestations since I am pregnant?

I am dealing with carpet beetles mostly in my bedroom and have sprayed a mixture or Suspend Sc with Gentrol Concentrate around all of our based boards around the house. The majority of the carpet beetles are in our bedroom.

A
There are no special directions for pregnant women. Follow the instructions on the product label. The label states that you should spray once a month for best results. It is also very important that the source of the infestation (where the damaging larva is harboring) is discovered and eliminated, not just the visible adult insects you see wandering around. Until you find out what that is and deal with it you will continue to get more of the carpet beetles emerging from hiding. Carpet beetles may be as likely to feed on grain based food materials as they are on animal byproducts. Pet foods stored in forgotten places, baking goods left too long in the cupboard, rodent baits tossed in the attic - all of these are quite susceptible to carpet beetle feeding. Plus, you also have the typical carpet beetle diets of dead insects (wasp nests in the attic, dead insects in window sills), feathers (bird nests, dead birds), hair (dead rodents, wool products, trophy mounts), and other things made from animal byproducts. Once the source of the infestation is removed or cleaned, use Suspend SC and Gentrol IGR once a month until all of the beetles are gone.

Q
Can I spray Gentrol on my box spring cover and then cover it with a bed bug proof box spring protector?

Also, can I spray it underneath my sofa inside the frame? I will be mixing it with Suspend SC.

A
The Gentrol IGR supplemental label states "To treat bedbugs, apply to harborage points mentioned in general treatments; in addition, under beds, bottom side of box springs (do not treat linens and mattresses), under and behind night stands, to points where carpet and wall meet, cracks in cove base, molding, and other areas where bedbugs harborage." Treating the underside of the sofa should be just fine, just be sure not to get any spray on the areas where people will contact it. For more sensitive areas you can use Bedlam and Steri-Fab.

Q
If bed bugs walk over dried Gentrol IGR, does it work? Or does it have to be sprayed on a live bedbug?

Does it work with all roaches? If yes, which ones?

A
Gentrol IGR does not have to be applied directly to bed bugs or roaches to work.  It has a residual that can last up to 4 months, so it can be picked up by bed bugs, roaches, drain flies and pantry pests long after it dries. It will work on all species of roaches.

Q
Can you use Gentrol as an IGR for fleas?
A
Gentrol IGR is not labeled for fleas.  The same company that makes Gentrol does make another IGR specifically for fleas called Precor IGR.  This is the IGR you should use for fleas.

Q
For a bed bug treatment, do I apply Gentrol all over my entire house (2,500 sq. ft.) in areas described?

Should I just treat rooms where bedbugs are found and the adjacent rooms?

A
You can treat the entire house (in specified areas) in case the bedbugs migrated to other areas of the house where they have yet to be detected.

Q
Can you help me identify the insects in my single wide trailer?

My husband and I live in a single wide trailer, and I know we have roaches and termites. Also, there is another bug. The bug is like a sticker that hits you and when you take it off, its green and oval. When on clothes, it's like a sticker (light in color), when it's wet it's like a space ship with a green dot. I can't get them out of the laundry. When I sprayed for fleas, I got these bugs. I don't even know what else is in the house. I need help!

A
Unfortunately, without seeing the insect we have no way to identify it. We recommend you either call a professional pest control company and have them come out and do a free inspection (most companies offer a free inspection/identification) or take samples of the insect to your local cooperative extension office to have the insects identified. Once you have the insects identified, we can help you select the products you will need to eliminate them. As for the roaches, we have put together a roach control kit that contains all of the products we recommend for effective roach elimination. In order to recommend what products you need for termites, we will need further information. Do you have a current infestation? If so, where? Do you have dry-wood termites or subterranean termites? If you are not sure of the answers to these questions, you could always call out the pros for a free inspection.

Q
Can I mix Gentrol IGR with Steri-Fab?
A
No. Steri-Fab has an alcohol base and comes as an end use product (which means that it does not need to diluted with water). Gentrol must be diluted with a gallon of water to be properly applied.

Q
Will Gentrol make bedbugs worse?

I do not see the Gentrol in your kits for bed bugs. I have heard it may not work on them. Is that why you don't have it in your kits? I have heard it can make them worse? How long will the Gentrol that I sprayed be in effect for the bedbugs?

A
There simply has not been enough time since the outbreak of bedbugs for proper studies to be done on the long term effect of Gentrol on bedbugs. There have been no studies published that support Gentrol making bedbug infestations worse and we have not had any reports to that effect either. Once Gentrol has been applied, it will be effective for bedbugs for about 2-4 weeks. We do not have Gentrol in our kits at this time because we feel that your money can be better spent on products that we know for sure will work.

Q
When using Gentrol, how long can you leave it in the sprayer before you dispose of it?
A
After you dilute Gentrol with water, it should be used within 24 hours. Also, you should not store pesticides in your sprayer as they will break down the rubber hose, seals and gaskets and could even cause damage to to the tank over time. Only mix what you can use at one time.
