For the rates “per gallon” question, in general 1 to 2 gallons of water is sufficient to cover a 1000 sq ft area however, if you do not know how much water is needed to cover 1000 sq ft , we highly recommended taking the time to do this. Water is soley acting as the carrier to distribute the active ingredient in herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers. If you do not use a sufficient water volume per 1000 sq ft, it can affect the results of your application or treatment.
The actual volume of water can vary with each individual operator because of how fast the applicator walks, how long their stride is, the sprayer being used, spray nozzle pattern, etc – this is why we always recommend doing a quick “mock application” to determine how much water you will need to cover 1000 sq ft for YOUR application.
Mark off a 1000 sq ft area of the lawn (50ft x 20ft). Fill your sprayer with plain water to the highest level mark. Begin to spray the 1000 sq ft section just as you will for the actual application. Once you’ve covered the entire area and you see how much water was used, this will tell you how much water to mix with the labeled rate per 1000 sq ft.
View our How to Calibrate Your Sprayer Video HERE for a short demonstration by our teamHere is an example: You’ve marked off a 1000 sq ft area in your lawn.
